Um, I've bashed my watch against concrete walls/pillars by mistake when I've brushed against them in garages etc. So yeah, actually it can be a common scenario.

I'm glad I ordered the SS model.

This.

I totally see the common issue will be dropping a watch on concrete or brushing up against a brick wall or building or something. You probably won't have many pocket issues unless you're really digging around for something. But I see environmental issues such as buildings, walls, etc being a more likely case...

This guy is incredibly irritating to watch.

You'd better watch it, and stop being so punny or someone will clock you.

The problem I see is we've just moved the scratch problem from the screen to the shell. The aluminium/steel body is still going to scratch badly if you don't watch out...

Sorry.

Ah, right... it's Lou, "back to front cap kid" yeah.... whatever....

Cap kid calls this "steel wool" in his video - any idiot can see IT IS NOT, that is a plastic based abrasive pad. What a pleb. Look at how the strands are formed - THAT IS NOT STEEL WOOL.

This bloke is CLUELESS about material science. What a plank.

That's because, like most testers, his scratching technique was that of a little girl... skiddy skiddy sideways motion. This is the internet, where people don't use their BRAINS, they just copy/paste everything, INCLUDING poor technique.

So, in summary, the Ion-X version appears to be as easily broken as Lou's credibility... but then, neither the digitisers he used OR his "techniques" (which would include questionable, creative editing) are able to be proven legit.

Why tough guys like you have to dog on the guy because he prefers to where his hat backwards is beyond me. Additionally, you sound like a little baby (or another word that starts with "b".) So you didn't like him or his video - we get it.

I appreciated the test he did - u mad bro?

I wish the tester of the sapphire screen had specifically used sand paper instead of bumping it up against a clay brick.

Oops! I just wiped my brand new Galaxy S6 with sand paper accidently! #! It's ruined! I thought it was made out of scratch resistant glass #

MacRumors' community is such an angry bunch today.

MacRumors' community is always an angry bunch.

Why can't we all just be friends? Don't call someone else's $400 watch cheap! They are spending they're hard earned money on a company that you too are supporting. If we go to war with each other and bash our own company's products, you know who wins ... ANDROID.

Plus, Sport buyers can always buy a bunch of ****** screen protectors with the $200 they saved. Heh heh :D

Mark up

It's weird Apple didn't just make the sapphire glass standard. The mark up on these watches must be huge! how much extra could the sapphire glass be?

----------

It's not meant to last for decades.

Too True!!!!! It will be obsolete in 1.5 years.

Well, if you go to a Rolex dealer, an actual (we don't like discussing price) one. You know, the places where you have to bend over before they hand you the bill.

They charge $200 for a sapphire glass replacement (including labor).

You know, sand will do, the thing under your feet, the thing that exists in abundance almost everywhere on land, you also don't need to put it on paper to scratch it.

If you're a klutz who will run into sandpaper wallpaper (why do you have sandpaper wallpaper?!), perhaps you shouldn't buy a watch. In fact I suggest steel plating, but I don't think that's scratch resistant either.

I would like a sapphire glass, but dislike the weight of stainless steel for a watch. Would be nice to see a Liquidmetal flavour in Apple Watch Gen 2.

Remember they just closed down the sapphire factory in Arizona that was opened last year. Perhaps sapphire was the original plan.

I wonder if they will also use the term Ion X for the iPhone now - Gorilla Glass is Ion Exchange glass.

A couple of very primary scientific problems with his method and partially results.

First, CMS - Change Measure Same. He changed the different tools, was measuring the same result, and kept the same type of surface to scratch it on, but did it in the same area as the previous tests. This would therefore render his future tests null and void.

No doubt the results wouldn't change much, but I swear there was a mark or two from the knife that wasn't as clear.

Secondly, he only got the bright idea of using a backing cloth behind the glass when he actually thought it was scratched. Should have gone with black backing, and done it for all of them. Results would no doubt stay the same, but still.

Noob. Go back to primary school. And I would know.

Absolutely, sounds too much like product differentiation. However, softer, more flexible glass, less prone to crack, isn't necessarily bad thing.

What you expect. I bet the Apple watch was the primary design spec with the Sport and Edition model derivative models. Also, why did they launch three models at once? Shouldn't the Sport and Edition models go out for Christmas season to keep the build lines simple to start?

I am amazed that no one has spotted yet that this is a Chinese knock off. The finish of the body and crown is awful (clearly plated plastic), the leather and seams are of low quality and the display is too small.

I would imagine the window may even be plastic, but can't say for sure.

EDIT: ah, never mind. I should have watched the video rather than just look at the still image. The parts in the video appear legit. The device in the picture isn't, though.

I'm definitely looking to use the word FAIL. Fail is also a noun btw... Also, if you care to find the info, please let me know how much lighter/heavier the watch would be with both options. If you are "active" and wearing a sport watch, I doubt the extra weight of sapphire has anything to do with reality. What, a couple grams? Please.

I don't mean to sound confrontational but in what language is fail a noun?
