Retail employees wouldn't get it before the Watch is officially released. These sightings are of employees working at Apple headquarters in Cupertino.

I had to upvote your patient & succinct explanation!!
I read the original post and and had urge to lol & shout: "n00b!!!!"

On the other hand, nobody cares if several people in the board room has the same iPad, MacBooks, or iPhones.

Absolutely. I don't see it being an issue at work.

And outside of work (social functions, over for dinner, etc.) you shouldn't be wearing a watch.

Why? It's not like you're going to spend the whole time looking at your wrist.

I was taught it was particularly rude to wear a watch in the evening. Watches are for work. Time shouldn't matter when you're with friends.

I know, I know. Hopelessly old-fashioned of me in this smartphone world, but it has a lot to commend it and I'll stick with it.

True but eventually employees will get them to try them out before they go on sale, at least I hope :p

I suppose they could get training on them before they go on sale, since it's a new product and they will have to get familiar with them so they can explain things to customers. But Apple won't allow them to be worn in public before they officially go on sale. They like to keep a tight wrap on their products until the public release.

Thats not the same - phones/PCs/tablets are there for extra productivity, a thing that you have to own these days, plus there really arent that much great companies producing great tablets and phones so the choice is quite limited, while there are thousands of great watches to choose from. So yes, it is quite funny/strange when two or more people in the room have exact same watch..

And outside of work (social functions, over for dinner, etc.) you shouldn't be wearing a watch.
Thats the first time i heard that, besides watches these days arent there for people to look how time it is, but more of a fashion statement - a personal choice..

Thats the first time i've heard that and to be honest i suspect its some sort of local custom etc as the world is a varied place i would think its most definitely a minority view. I've got one watch that i use as a sort of day watch for work etc then have a couple of other more "fashionable" watches that i can wear for nights out, social functions etc. Just because you have a watch on doesnt mean you are sat watching time.

Probably not since they didn't receive iPhones or iPad ahead of time. There is too much temptation to take pics and reveal information to allow this. They will receive training material but not actual product. There are even reports that one employee from each store will be designated and flown to HQ to receive specialized :apple:Watch training and will be responsible tor training the store employees.

So the newbie who just joined says it's a fake?

At this point we are all just looking to see the :apple:Watch in person. It hardly matters if it's real or not.

Just release it already Apple!

How in the world can anyone look at that and not no it's fake? Sure it's a total ripoff of Watch but it's so obviously not the real thing.

If I saw someone in public with one, I would immediately ask to just see it. Just, see it. Not even hold or touch it. Just see it and marvel as it. I want one so much. I can't wait until it is out. Apple keeps tormenting us with no release date and I want one now!

I think March is the rumoured release date so hopefully Apple will hold an event towards the end of February or the beginning of March. Until then they will probably keep teasing us via leaks of the :apple: Watch :D

I suppose Apple are probably more relaxed about the Apple watch being seen in public now that it's been announced officially. Every photo of it in real life that I've seen show the screen to be really reflective and smudged.

That may be true for some watches (and watch-wearers), but I know a lot of people who don't care too much about the fashion aspect, me included. Many watches these days have some great functionality (GPS, altimeter, stopwatch, etc.) and that's what drives people to purchase them. I know several military and police folks who wear pretty ugly and bulky watches because they're all about function.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you about fashion. All watches make a fashion statement one way or another and are very personal devices.

Trust me, I am 100% confident that certain employees are currently testing them in the wild. I have a cousin who has a friend (not trolling here) who works for Apple, and my cousin recently visited him. The friend had on an Apple Watch, and acknowledged that it was the real thing and added that it wasn't a secret anymore. I'd prefer to not say anything else for privacy reasons and the (job) security of my cousin's friend, but I speak the truth.

There have been reports since Sept of last year of Apple Watches out in the wild for testing purposes,

I feel like things are less strict now at Apple under Tim Cook, I feel like once the product has been revealed its ok to have your device out in public. Last year after the iPhone 6 was revealed I was in San Francisco that weekend and I noticed several people using their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus out in public places before the official sale of the device.

I actually like the fact there are (allegedly) 3000 of these out in the wild. It means Apple is doing plenty of real-world testing before they release this device.

And I bet they're exposed to the elements and visible! I'm sure they certainly don't want another antennagate!
