I was taught it was particularly rude to wear a watch in the evening. Watches are for work. Time shouldn't matter when you're with friends.

I know, I know. Hopelessly old-fashioned of me in this smartphone world, but it has a lot to commend it and I'll stick with it.
Thats a new one on me. However, must say there is a big difference between wearing a watch and looking at it constantly. Just like there is a difference between being at dinner with someone with a phone in their pocket or those that put it on the table and are constantly looking at emails and updates.
I wear my watch almost 24/7. Even swim with it twice a week.

As you can guess I will not be getting an Apple watch. It does not fit with the way I use a watch.

I wouldn't go that far. After all, with buddies, you need a watch to know when the bars close :)

However, I was taught that it was impolite to wear a watch on a first date, for the reason you cite: time should not matter when you're with a lady.

(I was also taught by my father to always carry tissues or a clean handkerchief, just in case a lady needs one. This has proven true many, many times. I will add that keeping a safety pin in your wallet can save the day for many a wardrobe mishap, male or female. Gentlemen and Boy Scouts are always prepared!)

And outside of work (social functions, over for dinner, etc.) you shouldn't be wearing a watch.

To me that's like saying you should NOT where shoes if it's cloudy outside. Completely illogical.

Only time I take my watch off is for a shower. period.

These spotted in the "wild" are fake.

The fake Apple watch is already available in Asia for about $25. It likely has no function, and will turn your wrist green. Just like all fake stuff it probubly cost about $5 to manufacture, uses toxic materials, and has no real functionality.

I saw the fake iPhone 6+ about two months before the real thing was releasesed. Some guy was selling them for $100. I am guessing that they were just android phones that were modeled after pictures from the internet.

There are thousands of employees currently testing the Apple Watch. I'd venture to say that most sightings seen in Northern California are legitimate Apple Watches.

Oh man, thats tough. I feel naked if I go out and I forget to put my wAtch on.

Black on black. I was thinking sports with the White sports band or the navy leather strap.

It's actually quite liberating. But, yeah, watchless is for downtime only. Not the working day - that would be a disaster!

Disaster? I haven't worn a watch since I graduated college (late 90s...)

I guess it depends but with so many things around that tell time, especially if you work behind a computer, watches generally aren't needed for time telling abilities.

It's going to be interesting socially to see how men will feel if many of them turn up to a party or business meeting etc etc wearing the same watch.

Normally that's a social/fashion NO NO.

Hey, I have no individual concept of style or what looks good, so I just bought the same as everyone else is wearing.

A social change there, personally speaking I'd NOT wear the Apple watch as I would want to maintain individuality.
I don't know if the articles were out when you posted this, detailing all the different band choices and faces you could have. As a man who hates to see people with the same shoes I am wearing, I know the point you are trying to make. However the chances of me seeing someone with the exact same band on and the exact third party screen on as me is highly unlikely. Also keep in mind I won't be wearing my Apple Watch all the time, sometimes I will throw on a Diesel or Fossil watch to go out with the wife. I am still stepping up my watch game, please excuse these brands.

Interesting that Cook is wearing the watch with a white rubber band. He wore that at the watch announcement, but this is a business meeting. I know Silicon Valey types tend to be a bit casual in their dress, but could this style be acceptable, say, among Wall Street types?

God can wear what ever he wants

There seem to be a lot of set rules for wearing a watch that i've never heard of before! I'm at work currently wearing a bog standard black digital watch!

You're right, I don't get it. I own two very high end watches that I wear to work (I work in the biggest bank in my country), and on some other days, I wear my plastic or rubber Swatch watches, even when I have important meetings. Not sure what the big deal is.

You'd think of all people that he would wear a :apple:Watch Edition.

Actually Tim is most definitely not a gold toned person based on his complexion. Steel (or other white metals) would suit his complexion more. Of course a lot of people eyeing the gold forget that type of stuff.

I work for a very large, international, fortune 50 company and around our execs, I see more fitbits than actual watches. (we are also east coast based, so if you are curious about difference from east coast vs west coast.)

It is interesting. Every time I've seen Cook wearing the watch he's worn it with white sport band. The one time we saw Jony Ive wearing one it was also white sport band (rose gold model). And Eddy Cue at that Grammy's party was wearing black sport band. Though I think at the event in September Kevin Lynch was wearing a milanese loop. Maybe Apple didn't produce that many non-sport bands for the 3K or so Apple employees testing the watch. Or maybe guys like Tim Cook would be wearing the sport band anyway.

Outside of the September event I have yet to see what Watch if any Ive wears. He does a good job of keeping his wrist covered. :D

People have different tastes. Even if I had Tims money I would not wear one. They look blingy and horrible imo.

Even my wedding ring is palladium and not gold.

I dig the rose gold one. I like the tone since it looks a bit like copper from the shots.
