Not sure if that was mentioned, but when I read the title "... only delivers notifications while on the wrist", my mind understood:

"while on the wrist, it only delivers notifications" (as in doesn't do anything else).

I know it meant: "notifications are delivered only when on the wrist".

But my mind works in weird ways sometimes...

Agree. 700% increase. No big deal.

I don't see why my 150 mph car can't just do 1,050 mph. They should have thought of a solution. More speed would be so nice...

Jeez you guys are all so... upset about anything said contrary to your unwavering belief in this product.

There has to be a way they could have given us better battery life. Neither you nor I will fully know the limitations they faced, but there must be been something they could have done differently. Maybe they should have focused on optimizations that don't trade-off on features that are expected. Some people might not want a heart-rate monitor? Maybe retina on a watch is a bit much? Etc..

A day's battery life is laughable, in my opinion. You may disagree, but that's your opinion.

not true. Where did you hear this. That's ridiculous. You should really get your facts straight!!

Oh, it's a joke. How funny. How hilarious. What a good post.

it's very good to know what your approach to this will be. I wasn't sure, but now i have a better idea how to proceed. I'll order one the second they are available. Thanks.

really. How dumb of apple to have not thought of this. They should have hired you as a consultant. You could have made a billion dollars selling this idea to apple.

again, i was not saying they should use that idea. Rather that they should think of something that would extend battery life. Sigh. Dsadsadasas

Sounds like it's Pebble Time

Its really easy to sit here on macrumors and say they should have made something where you can shake to recharge it. However its not as simple to actually implement.

omg can you read. I SAID LIKE. THAT WAS NOT AN IDEA I WAS SUGGESTING..

I'm starting to get mad at how big idiots people can be.

I don't see battery life as an issue. No matter how long it lasts Apple has to start somewhere. Early adopters are a very patient group, as they do know what the compromises are. That's why Apple updates all it's hardware products regularly and rather frequently.

Once the watch is out in the real world only then will it be discovered how they're used and what people's preferences are. Apple has always done a pretty good job with battery life. It'll all work out.

I don't think anyone is mad because you have a different opinion. I think most feel your opinion just isn't based in logic. Why does there have to be a way, right now, to increase battery life?

Asserting that those who don't want heart rate monitors, in order to increase battery life, are somehow more "right" than those who are fine with daily charging in order to get HRM is just not reasonable.

The real issue is not that Apple is somehow screwing us all over by holding back all the good, battery life extending ideas. It's that you aren't getting what you want, and you are throwing an Internet hissy fit.

Eh,
I think they shoulda thought of a better battery life solution. All-week battery life would have been nice... Heck, they coulda thought of something ingenious like "Shake to recharge it" or something like that..

just don't do that with your arm under the table. people will think you're trying to squeeze one off. :p

I think the smartwatch action this year will be between The Apple Smartwatch and the new Pebble Time watch.

The Pebble Time smartwatch has over $16 million dollars for it's kickstarter fund, and growing. That's a lot of interest in a smartwatch that isn't being advertised that extensively unlike the Apple Smartwatch

Fun times ahead for us, the public.

Thanks for the thorough explanation, it helps me understand how this product would benefit me.

I am also a person who doesn't like to wear jewelry, which makes me EXACTLY like you (in the single aspect of your personality you listed). I see the Apple Watch as a tool strapped to my wrist that lets me do many things I currently do on my iPhone more conveniently. It will also do some fitness monitoring that my iPhone doesn't do.

That is how the Apple Watch will benefit me and (by inference) you.

I don't think the battery life will be as much of a problem as people think. Perhaps in the first few days with the novelty factor but once it's used how it would on a normal daily basis it will be fine as long as you're happy to charge it over night.

It's not like you'll sit there playing Angry Birds on it! Most time will be just spent taking a quick glance at it when a notification comes through.

OR you could leave the clear plastic fake home screen display sticker on it, wear it as a true fashion accessory and get eternal battery life on it. just be sure to shake it a few times to pretend it is like a Rolex.

It's great saying that, but it could be technologically impossible to create a smartwatch like this with such a long battery life. I'm sure Apple has done all they could, I assume the technology just isn't there yet to give it a longer battery life.

LG watch last 3 days, so it is possible.

or, how about 'wink at it and it recharges'? like i dream of jeannie? or what about 'look in its general direction and, whammo, it's recharged'??, 'think, "apple watch, recharge now!", and bing!, it's charged'.....?

the monday morning qb'ing about all things apple has hit a nirvana.. time has shown, time and time again, (to overuse the operative word here..) that apple usually thinks things through, A LOT, and comes up with many, many innovative solutions for the problems that the laws of physics throws at it--like the mass to electron density issues of lithium polymer, to pick one out of a hat--so, maybe just accept, that like other watch manus, apple is up against the wall on battery size v. performance in this product category, and they've opted (i bet smartly) to have a beautiful, color oled screen instead of (yawn) e-ink, for many reasons, and are balancing battery performance the very best that it can be done at this juncture. in two years, it'll be better. and two years after that, even better. but, for now, calm the f down. please. it's getting so boring hearing people complain about the fact the watch lasts only a day... good grief, put the thing on the charger while you sit at your desk and it's done before lunch. or charge it in your car during your commute to and from. or .. whatever.. charge it overnight, how's that for innovative?? just.. please. calm down. don't buy one. you can wait 22 years until there's a mini fusion reactor on your wrist and you'll never have to charge your watch for as long as you live. happy???

2 hours to charge is excessively long. I hope it's not that. The moto 360 takes about 30 minutes to charge, and I think the LG G Watch about 1 hour or so.

Why can't APple provide the option of allowing you to receive notifications on and off the wrist. If the user finds it too taxing on the battery, they can turn it off.

Wouldn't be a problem for some guys, depending on the wrist.

how you figure, my phone charges in less than 1 hour and provides 10 hours of battery life

Interesting...we need see the real numbers when it gets into regular folks but I thought they would be using "fast charging" like all other mobile Apple products.

"Your Apple lithium-ion battery uses fast charging to quickly reach 80% of its capacity, then switches to slower trickle charging"

Will the Apple Watch work with my Nexus 4?

I don't know if you are joking...but its right on the web page and repeat it several times during the keynote - it requires an iPhone 5 or higher to work.

Woah I'm sorry if I upset you dude. I just think people here can be pretty negative when actually we don't all know how difficult it is to make battery life decent on things like this, you know :) I wasn't directly attacking you, it was more of a general thing.

I think I'll go with the opinions of people who have actually been using the watch than people here who have never used it and are just sniping from the sidelines.

I can assure you, there is no one on this forum with any Apple Watch real experience. Right now it is a peanut gallery. Just don't be a salted -- wait for it! -- peanut!

Ah, the old "let's put words into the late Steve Jobs' mouth" technique. Guaranteed to prove a point every time without any counter-argument!

Yup, the ghost of Henry Ford rules for decades in the automotive industry. This Ciut of Steve is just getting started. Wait til you see what is planned on the new Apple campus.

Having five hours of heavy usage per day is great news and I hope it's true.

What interests me is the standby time. How long does the :apple:Watch lasts on standby? I would expect at least a week.
