If you consider glances fiddling.

But it won't be glances. People will be fiddling and replying, maybe not in a strict work environment, but out in public? I'm guessing we're going to see a new way for people to be distracted as they walk around oblivious to their surroundings.

This is pretty much what I was expecting.

how you figure, my phone charges in less than 1 hour and provides 10 hours of battery life

To be fair, there are two things to keep in mind: Phones can fit better charging circuitry, and lithium batteries charge on a curve rather than linearly (in order to avoid overcharging).

right after they spent like 800 bucks on a bigger iPhone so they don't have to use said phone :D

You are correct! People couldn't wait to get those bigger screen iPhones, now they can't wait to see the same info on a 1.75" screen. Go figure.

On the contrary, I see quick interactive replies as a quick way to get the screen out of your face. If you're one that texts while walking the watch will greatly cut down on the zombie stare. BUT if you're someone who walks around reading an article on your phone...well there is no hope. :p

Kinetic recharging would take significant shaking to recharge, I don't think you want to look like your seizing for 30+ minutes.

Derp, that was an example of past solutions. I knew it would be unfeasible. I'm not the one that has to come up with the idea

These pretty much are real world use numbers. These are people who have been using the watch for prototyping as far as I know.

Yet prototyping didn't uncover the iPhone 4 signal problems before it hit the public or the scratch proneness of the iPhone 5.

man, i really want to get one...but the only a day battery life is concerning. prob going to wait for real world users to report back on how battery actually plays out.

We will find out in a few days if any of these reports from "reliable sources" is even remotely close to the truth. Or just click & baits basically.

After Monday, I will find out if I should visit this site or 9to5Mac or Techcrunch etc ever again.

I survived without these sites breaking news and was able to purchase & enjoy my iGadgets starting launch day during the good old days. Not really sure why I am so obsessd or cannot function without checking these sites - just to get info ahead of general public? Most people around me, do not care. :D

I guess because it is so hilarious --- so much stupidity in one place......

I dunno... I do think I'm less distracted by my Pebble than I was having to pull my phone out.

apple watch is going to be a huge hit.

no more pulling out a phone for a low priority notification.

no wonder why apple hasn't bee making major changes to their notification. they've been working on the apple watch for notification revamp.

THIS IS AWESOME!

Do me a favor: Shake your wrist for 10 seconds and then tell me what you think of that idea.

Again, that was not what I was saying.
THAT is a solution they had to recharge battieries in the past. It was smart.

I want them to think of something like that.

I've seen people sitting together at a coffee shop texting each other instead of talking, so nothing should come as a surprise. And making that Facebook reply is of utmost importance.

I’m usually pretty chill on the forums, but holy crap. Why do people freak out so much about the battery?
Yes, the watch will have a ton of apps and be capable of cool things, but it is not a gaming device, a phone, a tablet, or a desktop computer. It’s a watch! Five hours of “heavy use” is good for a product like this. Everything about this watch is to complement what we already do; to simplify things. If you have to respond in lengthy fashion to an email, you’ll go ahead and take out your phone or use the computer. If you need more than a “yes”, “no”, or “maybe” on a text, you’ll likely pull out the phone. Let’s not even get started on movies and games (which I’ve heard people mention).

I’m totally cool with charging nightly. If it was 3 or 5 days, I’d probably forget what day it was or not pay attention to my battery. As it is, it looks to be a very simple matter of routine charging versus a sporadic every third day charge.

I agree 100%, in another thread I said if you spend 5 HOURS using the watch, you have a problem!!

Dumb design decision.

why can't it send notification when I don't wear it? What if I take it off at work to charge it, so i won't get any alert?

it just doesn't make any sense. how about let the consumer decide when to get notification for once?

Then you buy watch for all the wrong reasons. I can't help you there, mate ;)

Charging my watch every night is fine...

I am doing some development work on an Android Wear watch, specifically a Moto360. Nice bit of kit. Battery life gets me to 40-60% after a full day. I simply place it in its inductive charging cradle as I go to bed, where it both recharges and functions as a handy bedside clock. It's ready to rock in the morning, and in reality, that's just as convenient as my automatic self-winding Rolex, if not more-so.

If I'm on an overnight trip without the charger, I simply turn the watch completely off before bed, and I'll have enough to squeak through a second day. Longer trips are where extra battery capacity would be great, so you don't have to worry about charging while away from home.

We're not there yet. The LCE screens will need to become more energy efficient. The powerful backlight required to shine through a bunch of RGB filtered pixels is the monstrous power draw. When you're working with a paltry 300mAh battery (as in the Moto360) combined with a backlit LCD display, you have to be extremely frugal with power management and keeping the display off when not needed.

To have the watch "harvest" energy through arm movement or solar is an obvious idea, except for the problem of the amount of energy you could harvest is a drop in the bucket compared with what that LCD backlight needs.

There are more efficient screen technologies like OLED, e-paper, e-ink, reflective LCD, or hybrid with moving analog hands... but they all produce a different user experience with their own compromises, such as lack of color, less information, or poor legibility in direct sunlight.

We'll see what Apple has up it's sleeve on Monday. bah... bad pun.

shake to recharge

For all the comments on shake to recharge, I could kill two birds with one stone...

But that's a Pebble, we're talking Apple now. :D

Not much of a difference as far as notifications are concerned. Except that you might get distracted having to constantly repeat yourself to Siri, rather than just pull out your phone when you want to reply.
