I'm surprised they don't offer a platinum edition. Gold may be popular elsewhere, but amongst my circle of 30 something friends, it's considered tacky.

so $349 for the most basic model.

The gold model is going to be scary $$$$. Problem is, it will depreciate very fast as apple launches a new model annually .

Not sure why people want a water proof watch. Most models are water resistant. This is not a diving watch.

I suspect, that while working out with Iwatch , all the health data will still be collected despite not having the phone on you.....then when you get back to your phone it will pass / swap data with phone.

Switzerland is in trouble my arse.

I like you Jony but this wasn't even close.

From what I recall he said something like

"Switzerland is ******.
I think All first versions of Apple products are overhyped and real innovation comes in with v2. So let's wait and see. :)

they could have made it waterproof if they ditched that stupid dial. just make it a smooth glass touch sensor that senses which direction you are moving your finger. then the entire sensor itself is a button that can be tapped, or pressed and held for a secondary function. or pressed and held and then you move your finger in any one of 4 directions to activate several other functions. screw the dial, even Blackberry ditched the dial on their phones

i get what they tried to do with the dial aesthetics and maybe jon ive thought it would be neat to do while he was on peyote...but the dial does not go well with the overall product. not to bring up the whole "what would steve do"...but i honestly feel that with all of the sensor technology that apple has either developed themselves or borrowed and implemented into its products, that steve would not have allowed a stupid dial to be placed onto this product
Rolex and other high end watches have that dial (crown) too and they are water resistant.

I like the concept of the watch but the two things are making me hold off for now are:

it's not waterproof

It needs the damn iPhone at all times.

These two are deal killers. Until they fix these, I will wait. My Omega thanks Apple for now. :D

I doubt it'll cease being a useful tool without a iPhone. Surely, it wont download maps, or have GPS, but I'm sure it can still report on pulse rate, and that time-telling thing that watches do.

The iPhone just expands.

(oh, and it's thick now, so the apple-watch 2 can be thinner)

You must be an analyst. Amazing predictions.

It says on the web site it plays music and you can look at photos without the phone (probably also plays video). It can also obviously run apps and many apps don't need the internet to run. For everything that needs it (say a calendar app), you can sync when the Iphone is within range.

How warm do these devices get?
how much music can I store? ( how much ram )
Does it get warm during playback?

How can it do Apple Pay offline using bluetooth? The bluetooth is connecting it to the iPhone which is online.

To be fair, a $350 smartwatch is a hell of a long way from a multi thousand dollar high end watch. Expectation should be tempered with reality. Even the higher end Edition version is not in the same league with high end watches. I imagine a price tag around $1000. That is firmly in the low mid tier price range.

i bet Jennifer Lawrence can't wait for the new activity and GPS tracking data to be stored in her iCloud account, as well as the ability to have all of her credit card information backed up and stored in her iCloud account as well

:apple: Think Again :apple:

Well know of that stuff is stored in the iCloud but nice try.

Maybe if you're a celebrity and take naked photos of yourself you should think about enabling Apple's 2 factor security. Apple offers it, it's the users fault for not enabling it.

The gold model is going to be scary $$$$.

My guess is somewhere around $1499 - $1999. They should have called it the "a$$hole edition". A product that exists simply for people to brag about how much money they blew on something that literally does nothing the standard edition can't do.

You can't even *shower* with it? What the everloving ******?

Even my cheap childhood watches were waterproof in the 80s!!

I'm disappointed in Apple. Between this and iOS 8's WTF in the Photos app, I'm starting to wonder about the company.

I think they're pretty ******. Millennials will be buying this and since you can only have one watch on a wrist the Swiss will lose.

Probably will offer it as gen2 if the gold sells well over the next year.

Was honestly thinking the watch would look a lot nicer... The moto 360 looks way better. Now we just have to wait for further details.

On MacBreak Weekly Andy Ihnatko (who was at the event) said the fit and finish on the watch is perfect. He also said the Moto 360 "doesn't look quite so nice compared to Apple Watch". And he's someone who is currently using the Moto 360 and really likes it a lot.

From all the hands on reports and tweets I've read today I get the impression that you have to see the watch in person to appreciate it and that it's not as bulky as it looks in photos. Of course for some the non-round display is a non-starter so anything else is ugly.

Disappointed

I think I was hoping for more and certainly more originality.
Can't help but think that Steve would have hated that crown.
It's not within the Ive/Jobs "less is more" philosophy.

Why not a round face with a round LCD, that would be a greater challenge but more aesthetically pleasing.

Drop the crown and instead use the chassis by stroking the rim either clockwise or counter clockwise. That would have harkened back to the iPod.

Oh well, only time will tell....
The hardware can change in time, it's always been about the software which is what killed Nokia as they didn't have it or get it.

This is a product that I will wait for reviews as well as check out in person.

At the current price point, its a tough sell. Certain drawbacks I see

-Having to take it off before getting in the shower
-charging it over night (what happened to it tracking my sleep!?)
-Bulky
-Communication function seems gimmicky. Thought, sending someone a tap touch motion sounds really cool.

Fashion wise, they nailed it. This thing is sexy.

I thought they just said in this post it was water resistant? You shouldn't have to take it off in the shower.

They haven't mentioned anything about battery. The moto 360 gets about a day so I would imagine this would get at least double that.

Bulk should decrease with time. I'm guessing they did it for the battery.
