The new Apple Watch Ultra features the ability to measure the temperature of the water as you're diving, swimming, and doing a range of other water sports thanks to new functionality, added durability, and a new Depth app pre-installed on the watch.

The Apple Watch Ultra is the most rugged Apple Watch yet, with features and design elements explicitly designed for swimmers, divers, and athletes. The new Apple Watch Ultra is also the most water-friendly Apple Watch, featuring EN 13319 certification, the international standard for diving accessories such as depth gauges relied on by professional divers.

When diving, specifically, divers can use a new Depth app that shows several key metrics, including current depth, elapsed time, the current water temperature, the amount of time spent underwater, and more. When underwater, the Apple Watch Ultra automatically opens the Depth app, making it quick and easy to get critical information without needing to open it manually.

The Apple Watch Ultra costs $799 and was made available for pre-order after yesterday's "Far out" event. The Apple Watch Ultra will begin shipping to customers on Friday, September 23.

But its only cellular not non cellular
You don't have to activate the cellular on it so what's the issue?

I notice you're posting this in every Ultra thread. And then multiple people are telling you what I just said. And you just post it again in the next thread. I hope you see this reply because maybe your notifications aren't working properly.

Why would anyone buy the Watch 8 steel case 45mm when you can get a 49mm Ultra for just $50 more?

unfortunately I did, and I was debating that exact issue. For me I kept the SS S8 because I know its size etc on my wrist and the Ultra I dont know how it will look etc. Personally I think its to best for me... and maybe I will regret not getting the ultra but for right now I am sticking with the SS

I'm keen to learn more about the dive functionality of this, i.e. what level of existing dive watch it competes with, e.g. does it support Nitrox, multi-gas, deco-dives, logging, post-dive analysis etc. I'm pretty sure there won't be air integration, which is a shame and I really hope Apple hasn't locked-it down into some kind of 'super-safe' mode with massive conservatism and mandatory lock-out if you blow your safety stop by 10 secs etc. I guess all the info's probably out there already, I've just not got round to finding it yet.

The Ultra is not going to be worn by people in professional business or formal settings. It's bulky and has orange on it, will look ridiculous with a Milanese loop, etc. The stainless steel Apple Watch can handle those formal settings but slap on a sport band and you can still go running with it.

I don't dive but my guess is this is going to be hugely popular in the diving community - even if the prosumer level.

Well, professional and business attire has become a lot more casual over the last 3 years. I can guarantee you that some top tier business people and professionals will wear this.

I'll counter that a lot of people will use it as a fashion accessory because it showcases a life of adventure and activity they claim to have or want. I also think less than .1% of this version of the watch will ever go more than 4 feet under water.
