I have around 15k dives under my belt and taught full time for 15 years

Its very cool and will sell
but nothing my Citizen watches did not do 20+ yrs ago (for basic info) or Suunto dive devices did as full blown computers but they were/are more specific use items BUT those did nothing for other things like working out or biking or hiking or daily life setting a timer etc... :) this is where the watch is so cool its just a daily piece !

I can see the integration of it being very cool they will bring it more to mainstream SINCE you do not have to buy a dive specific device which are $$$

also IMHO for safety its now a backup you have and when I did tech diving you want backups and redundancy !

just like the Sat emergency communication on the new iphone are going to take a HUGE chunk out of the garmin in reach or other devices sales I think !

I can see it taking a cut out of some of the dedicated dive devices

bottom line yeah this is super cool and so wish I had one at the height of my dive career ! Not that it would be a game changer just that daily life integration they offer and redundancy for even a pro to take advantage of etc.
Hi, my second apple watch, S6 just died after couple short swims in the sea, less than 1.5 years old... the warranty on the ultra is also 1 year...i would never risk this watch as main dive computer...as backup next to my suunto, yes, but never as the only one. they should state their own fait in their own product in years of warranty given...i will probably take it as second dive computer and hope it will last more than the previous ones, but this will be my last apple watch if it does not, for sure...

I said a backup :) also said redundancy :) never said as my only one :)
daly life would have been fun free diving after work with it etc.

my regular apple watch I do not trust swimming the whole spin the crown thing etc. so bummer to hear about yours for sure

Doing about 500+ dives a year is dif than the guy doing a few a year on vacation :) for those on vacation on boat or lead dives will do fine :) when I worked on Maui/Lanai or in the Bay Islands etc. with this as the Dives are all planned out quite well etc... again mainstream folks who vacation dive etc.

when I worked in Chuuk we used to rely more on each dive person doing their own thing we never did so much leading dives except a few and then its on them most had decent gear seemed to be OK divers

Dumb question sorry if it has been stated before, but can this get the temperature of a swimming pool? Is it an app that is needed, or built in functionality?
Also curious how the water temp works with the built in Activity swim app. Would be great to know pool temp during work out.

Tested today. Water temp is not displayed during swim workout or included in workout summary. Finished swim, stopped the workout, and dove to the bottom to get Depth app to open and measure temp.

Speaking of diving with the Ultra, the Apple website advertises 100m * and if people scroll down to the bottom of the advertising page for the Ultra, you find Apple really says 40m. I think their advertising with this aspect is misleading.

  • * Apple Watch Ultra has a water resistance rating of 100 meters under ISO standard 22810. It may be used for recreational scuba diving (with compatible third-party app from the App Store) to 40 meters and high-speed water sports. Apple Watch Ultra should not be used for diving below 40 meters. Water resistance is not a permanent condition and can diminish over time. For additional information see support.apple.com/HT205000.
Support page also says 40m

f you have Apple Watch Ultra, you can wear it during recreational scuba diving up to 130 feet (40 meters) and other activities like swimming, showering, and water skiing.*

Discovered that the water temp from your swim is recorded in Health. Navigating to more data shows that it was recording temp during the swim workout.
