Not a fan at all. Way too big for my arm. My 7 Ti black will have too last another year. Hopefully they bring it back. I can go back to SS but the shine and lack of DLC finish I’m not that fond of.

Love the SB Titanium as well... Weird to reserve the premium materials for the Ultra - they are not competing at all. Ultra would be way too big and bulky for me - and even as a marathoner, the Ultra is hugely overkill

I`m not a extreme sports person, but I think these features should be available in the regular watch.

They mentioned the Ultra's dive band being able to be worn over a wetsuit. How does that work with unlocking the watch and keeping it unlocked if there's no skin contact with the rear sensors?
Probably just jumps into the Depth app and stays there even if it's not detecting your wrist. If it's underwater like that it's either on your wrist or gone forever, so it doesn't matter if the battery dies. RF (LTE, Wifi, bluetooth, etc.) doesn't work in water anyway, so it's not like you'd be getting phone calls or other notifications while at depth.

Without skin contact, though, you wouldn't get your pulse rate or Sp02, which could be useful to have when diving.

I’ve ordered one, but bummed the screen is virtually the same size as the S8. With a large physical bezel on the Ultra (unlike the rounded borderless series watches) it would’ve been nice if they brought the screen edge to edge.

unfortunately I did, and I was debating that exact issue. For me I kept the SS S8 because I know its size etc on my wrist and the Ultra I dont know how it will look etc. Personally I think its to best for me... and maybe I will regret not getting the ultra but for right now I am sticking with the SS
Same here. I bought the 8, but if in a month or five I want, I will trade the 8 for the ultra. If I could really see how they compared first, I might have decided differently.

Not quite, but almost…

I thought about the same thing. The spec page shows the S8 as 20% larger than the SE and Ultra 27% larger. So, bigger than the S8 but not drastic considering the size but still bigger and brighter and I'm guessing with the flat shape will ultimately display better than the rounded edge. I hope anyway but I came from a mix of rugged and stainless mechanical watches to the Apple Watch years ago and was ready for a different look. If it's by way of a sportier style, a bit chunkier well that will do for a bit. If I hate if for some reason, I will backtrack and get the stainless but I doubt I will. I hear you though on the size versus potential considering the space available.

Not to mention, I use my watch for workouts. It's not difficult to slide to my workout watch face and tap the workout complication but if the action button can be assigned to the task, sweet. Even easier.

The Ultra feature set and pricing really caught my attention, but the thing looks huge to me. I happen to be in the market for a new dive computer and the sizing for that is great (and actually smaller than some of my older computers) but as I am not a full time adventurer it might look ridiculous on my skinny wrist at the gym.

I was going to mention, I had a Casio watch in the 90's with a temp sensor that would show water or air temp. It was a TS-1000. Ha. Same diving spec too, 100M

I don't dive but my guess is this is going to be hugely popular in the diving community - even if the prosumer level.
Ya, my spouse is a scuba diver (not me). She doesn't care about much tech product, but I called her over during the keynote. She spends an ungodly amount of money on dive gear (legit dive computers and basically any gear related to scuba is expensive). When she saw the Ultra, she was excited by it but said "$1200 minimum!" When she saw the actual price, she was all in.

We're big hikers too, going on long multi-day treks, sometimes in the winter, in the rural mountains where it might be a few days to reach a road and where compounded mistakes or bad luck can lead to death. So then the iPhone 14 comes on. Again, I call her over. Satellite. The classic satellite communication gear and associated service is pricey. Again, she signs up for the 14.

Certainly not for everyone, but for the active adventure lifestyle types, this is a double home-run.

Just to be clear, the Apple Ultra is being marketed as a legit scuba diving computer, unlike 100m watch products. Dive computers are pricey and are critical to the serious diver. They are all about depth, rate of decent/ascent, time, decompression, gas mixes, etc... all in the name of not ending up in the emergency decompression chamber or worse.

Are there any side by side comparison photos of the ultra and the largest non ultra, whatever they are calling it these days?

Dumb question sorry if it has been stated before, but can this get the temperature of a swimming pool? Is it an app that is needed, or built in functionality?

I have around 15k dives under my belt and taught full time for 15 years

Its very cool and will sell
but nothing my Citizen watches did not do 20+ yrs ago (for basic info) or Suunto dive devices did as full blown computers but they were/are more specific use items BUT those did nothing for other things like working out or biking or hiking or daily life setting a timer etc... :) this is where the watch is so cool its just a daily piece !

I can see the integration of it being very cool they will bring it more to mainstream SINCE you do not have to buy a dive specific device which are $$$

also IMHO for safety its now a backup you have and when I did tech diving you want backups and redundancy !

just like the Sat emergency communication on the new iphone are going to take a HUGE chunk out of the garmin in reach or other devices sales I think !

I can see it taking a cut out of some of the dedicated dive devices

bottom line yeah this is super cool and so wish I had one at the height of my dive career ! Not that it would be a game changer just that daily life integration they offer and redundancy for even a pro to take advantage of etc.

I’m holding out for an Ultra Mini, so I can use my sizable collection of 38-41mm bands.

The Ultra is not going to be worn by people in professional business or formal settings. It's bulky and has orange on it, will look ridiculous with a Milanese loop, etc. The stainless steel Apple Watch can handle those formal settings but slap on a sport band and you can still go running with it.
I guess that's a matter of taste.
