I really want them to make an Ocean Band in the same orange as the Alpine Loop. One day hopefully.
There‘s an orange one from a company called Bluestein which produces lookalike watchbands in a very good quality.

I once purchased a stainless steel wristband which was excellent; I compared it to the original one from Apple (which was ridiculously expensive back in those days) and couldn‘t really tell a difference.

Absolutely loving the way the color changes and how diverse the bands you can wear with it. Awesome watch!
I'd be very interested in user feedback on the Ocean loops. They can't let sweat out like the fabric loops or the perforated Nike bands, but maybe the joints between the "links" work like the perforations in the Nike bands?

If you are wearing an Ocean loop when you work out, how do you feel about the Ocean loop?

… Question: is the band likely to be returnable without returning the Watch as well? Apple has had a few different return policies on the bands that come with the Watch, and I'm not sure where Apple is at on accepting returns on bands that shipped with a watch.
Edited since I don’t know for sure, but the box with the watch serial number also lists the band type, color, and the box for the band has no barcode, etc, so you’d probably have to exchange the whole thing.

I really hope Apple optimizes the watch faces to actually use the 49mm screen. Some of them just look silly right now since they're not optimized for the bigger screen.

Yea I noticed this as well. I just gravitated to the faces that were released for the edge to edge Series 7 & later. I hope the older faces get updated at some point.

just to set your expectations - the body is 49mm not the screen. check pout the Apple compare site that will give you the detail screen resolution, the Ultra is very slightly larger that the normal AW.

The screen is near identical to the size of the 45mm Series 7/8. Only about 1% bigger. Maybe the bezels and lack of reflection are tricking the eye, but any faces made for 45mm are certainly not out of proportion. Are you just referring to ones made for Series 4-6?

I plan on using it for pool/ocean swimming and for its ‘looks’. For runs, HIIT, biking, etc I only use Sport Loops because they’re so easy to adjust.

So only 49mm straps fit correctly in Ultra? This is very annoying not to have leather or steel straps to use with it.

It really isn’t noticeable unless you are examining really close or choosing to look at the connection point. I don’t notice it when going about the day. Here are some pics with my black leather link. Doesn’t bother me. Doesn’t look out of place. I’m happy to be able to continue using my bands lol

Hope this helps in your decision either way.

Looks much better than the way the braided loops fit on the 44/45mm’s!

I was critical of the aesthetics of the some of the spacing yesterday, but I use Infograph 90% of the time and today I’m finding it easier to accurately select my most frequent complications. On the flip side, I find the sub-dial complications too small and too crowded on Wayfinder, which they needed to do to make room for the albeit super cool compass.

Random observations after a day.

Let it charge all night. Put it on a 7:20 this morning, and I've done usual househould stuff, along with a 30 minute ride on my peloton (tracking heart rate, etc the entire ride). I've used 7% of the battery (as of 2:40 here).

Ordered a large starlight Alpine band, but I should have ordered a medium. I tried it on, but it's just a bit too big. I might sell it on eBay.

Well, well! I placed an order around 08:00 yesterday, for an Ultra, for pick up today.
Finally unboxed it, and powered it on, etcetera. My goodness, what a lovely device. And, I love large watches (Invicta, Tissot, MSQ), and to me, Apple got this spot on.

No, I will not be doing fitness, hiking or any of that, just wearing and enjoy my watch, like I did with my AW6...

Wore my ultra with midnight ocean band to Tae Kwon Do practice this morning.

The watch is definitely top heavy, and noticeable when punching, chopping, etc.. I had to tighten the band two notches tighter than I had it for normal wear. When tightened like that it was fine.

I remember someone in a thread mentioned that they had issues with the alpine loop and boxing, but I can’t find the post. For these types of workouts, perhaps the ocean band may be a better choice than the alpine loop.

Hope this helps.

I still need to try my solo loop on mine. that might be a solution too.
