If you activate cellular service on the watch, does the cellular connection turn off and default to WiFi or Bluetooth when near the phone? I’d like to activate cellular so I can use my watch more when I’m away from my phone, but due to the excessive battery drain when using cellular, am wondering/hoping the watch will revert to WiFi or Bluetooth and turn off cellular when I’m near my phone. Can anyone let me know?
I’ll echo what RogerKMilw said, as I’ve worn a cellular model for several years now, and I always leave the cellular chip enabled. It will default to wifi and your phone’s connection first, and only switch to actively using LTE when you are too great a distance from the phone - I’d guess that would be the Bluetooth range (30 feet). I did experiment with turning off/on the LTE on the watch to see if it made a real difference in battery life, and I didn’t really find one. But it was a bother to think about turning it on and off vs just not worrying about it. As others have said, LTE on its own will really eat up the battery, but you’d probably get several hours out of it (on LTE) without a phone at all.

I’ve had a cellular AW since they were first available.

When I run or swim, I leave my iPhone behind.

I’ve run several marathons, and only run with my AW.

My marathon times are terrible, and the AW easily lasts the race. And that’s with Apple Music playing (not streaming) through an AirPod Pro.

I never even think about cellular. It’s just always enabled and kicks in when needed. I’d never have an AW without it.

Yeah totally sick of you guys being happy bc you’re getting more than 2x what you were getting previously. How dare you talk about one of your favorite things about your new watch the first weekend you have it!

Maybe instead of complaining about what we’re happy about so far you could talk about something else you enjoy about it?

Oh and btw getting way, way more than 36 on one charge with all the things I’ve been testing out (no low power mode). Whoops there I go again talking about it Sorry😝

I'm currently at 28 percent it's 12:30am here and i took it off the charge on Saturday at 4:15pm. Based on this i should be reach 36hrs.

Posted elsewhere but this is by far my favourite Apple product in years. Love the look with the stainless link. Mechanic meets digital. Every day I’m enjoying it more and more!

I inspected mine closely. My theory - it’s just a reflection from the chamfered edge in the hole on a pressure sensing bellows or membrane. No screen on that port as it might interfere with the pressure sensing device.
Thanks!
And sorry for perhaps not understanding correctly, but did you see the same on yours?

I was just thinking this myself yesterday -- I get excited about new releases, but for some reason, the Apple Watch Ultra felt like something completely new, and I was pumped to find one in stock on Friday morning. Been enjoying this thing a lot over the weekend and look forward to seeing how it performs during a typical week of usage.

I think part of it is the updated design and how large (well, regular) it looks sitting on my wrist. I don't have huge wrists, but they are a size that can easily support this size of watch. Loving this damn thing!

Posted this in another thread here as well...

Picked mine up yesterday.

After wearing every single Apple Watch released (all stainless steel), this is the first watch that feels like a real watch should.

And I am very surprised to be saying that. I was very worried that the Ultra would be too large on my small wrists but it actually looks fine -- like a watch should look on one's wrist. The 45mm watches seem like toys compared to the Ultra.

Additionally, the one strap I swore I would not buy was the Ocean. However, over the past few days, after reading a considerable amount of positive comments about the strap on various forums, I decided to pick it over the Alpine. Best choice I could have made. The ocean band is very comfortable and not nearly as chunky as the product photos suggest. It goes on and off quite easily and if I ever choose to wear this watch in the water, I now have a band that will handle the elements.

Still have not worn this for a full day so I can't comment on battery life, though I am reading that it exceeds Apple's estimations. As far as the display is concerned, it's not noticeably larger though it does give the sense of having more real estate in the way graphics are displayed. I think the flat face design (over the rounded corners) makes for a better viewing experience.
No the ultra is smaller Watch display it’s more rounded so you lose text, it’s a terrible design the huge bezels are a step back, using it for 24 hours and I couldn’t wait to return it and go back to series 7 which now felt like a huge upgrade
