Ugh. This looks like the same software bug that’s been around forever. I have this same issue on my Series 4 with indoor walks on the treadmill almost every time and occasionally on outdoor walks. I’ve seen other people complain about this issue as well over the past few years. I was really hoping watchOS 9 and new hardware would have finally fixed this. Darn.
I work out literally every day and have been wearing AWs since Series 3 and have never seen that. I'm not doubting either of you, but if it is a software bug it's very random.

Same here…not doubting the posters with issues, either. I’ve had every AW since S0 and the HR is always on point, even while swimming.

Ohh you are right!!! I never knew some other people noticed it also

I got my AWU yesterday and so far it's been good. The weight has not been a problem and while the watch is much better, i got used to it like wearing a large utility watch.

the only thing I felt strange with is that I think the font is not as crisp as my 44mm ceramic S5. There is more pixels being seen.

Exactly the same feel. Image quality not as sharp as standard watches. It’s crearly a year 1 product!! Next year black or darker color, revamped display with higher PPI rate and less blank space in margins, for sure!

This is a really good question. Trade-in values for AW are really low, and one gets very little credit for upgraded materials or cellular, part of the reason being that the core functionality is the same (aside from cellular). Private sale is better, but still not great.
Where you really get hammered is with upgraded materials or cellular, relative to an aluminum wifi watch. It's a bit of an eye-opener.
So which colour alpine loop does everyone like better? Green or orange?
Personal preference, but although i think the orange looks fabulous on a web page or store display, I think it'd be awfully loud in most situations. The green is attractive and much lower key, but YMMV!
6) The screen is technically larger. It has a bigger resolution (not by much ) and is way at brighter. The flat screen reads better, swipes better, and it seems more crisp than the 7.
7) I’m quite surprised they were not priced higher. I paid more for my series 7 titanium. They should just have a Ti regular series 8 and drop the stainless. I see no point to it assuming they could get similar 3 finishes. I think a more raw Ti rainbow ish color would be cool.
10) The ultra overall I don’t think sits higher or it much thicker top to bottom; however, the regular Apple Watch has a less bulky case so it looks like it sits a little lower. Top of screen to bottom of the sensor bulge is very very similar between both. Since the ultra has a larger case it has the illusion of sitting a bit higher. I’m sure it does technically but it makes it photo much larger than it is in person.
A few random responses.

6. I don't know if it's technically correct, but I agree. The display seems more crisp, as if the display had higher definition.
7. Pricing is a puzzle. As you said, the S7 titanium Edition watches were $50 more expensive. I predict that a major selling point/upgrade for next year will be "We're bringing back the finishes that you told us you loved!" 😂. And maybe a price hike? Honestly, the AWU almost seems, in comparison to the prices of other Apple Watch versions, underpriced. (gasp)
10. The Apple specs say it's almost 4mm taller than the Series watches, a little over 25% taller/thicker, so that's going to be noticeable in some cases.

Not going to single anyone out but this watch looks overly big on some wrists in these photos, I mean if the lugs are hanging over the sides it's too BIG lol.

When I initially purchased my Ceramic Series 5 I had the exact same issue. Exchanged it within the allotted 14 days at the Apple Store and haven’t experienced it on any Apple Watch since.

This is a photo of the AWU with a Hermes single leather band which I have had since series 5

I agree with the larger display but don’t think they will be offering this in any other colour.

Thanks for sharing. Does the end of the band remain 'in' the bar thingy? I have one, but, haven't even opened it, yet.
Usual my sport band from my AW6...

It does. You actually adjust where the bar goes for optimal fit.

So….I have a really small wrist…size 1 solo…153mm /6”. I was thinking this watch would really be too big..the pictures don’t do justice…you really need to see on your own wrist. I’m pretty happy so far..not sure about the Alpine strap…wish I would have stayed with the Ocean band but oh well. Yep it’s thicker but not that big of a deal for me….

Exactly. The pictures make it seem much larger than it actually is. Those of you with small wrists have NO WORRIES. This thing is going to look great on you.

Big fan of the Starlight Alpine loop.

Love that look. I couldn’t imagine waiting for a little more speck to be ok with this watch. It’s awesome. Apple doesn’t just throw things at the wall to see what sticks, they have absolutely thought the AWU through. The design makes sense, the functionality makes sense. It’s going to be quite some time before this watch “falls out of style“ if ever.…and I can’t imagine the thought of having to go back. Maybe it’s just me, but I see myself satisfied with this watch for a few years at the very least. AWU 4 maybe? lol👍🍺

Yeah, it’s very weird… I never saw it on my Series 0, and I don’t remember seeing it on my Series 4 until watchOS 6 or 7. Sure enough, here’s today’s treadmill walk for me (watchOS 9 on Series 4) and right on cue:

Whoa, I admit I'm lazy...I should look this up myself, but...what face is that? That's, ahhh, far out! :D :D :D

Was your last watch an aluminum Sport of a stainless steel model? I'm thinking it would be less noticeable if you'd been wearing a SS watch, but I'm curious.

I agree. It's not like it's a huge thing, but the Nike bands and loops (and obviously the non-Nike equivalents can be put on without looking or thinking at all.

I'm also wondering whether it would be easier if I were wearing the watch on my left wrist - I wear it on the right wrist. Possibly the ergos are different with the S-hook - not sure (and don't really care, tbh; just thinking out loud).

There are pics of the stainless bracelet which look like the bracelet was made for this watch from the start, and that's from 42mm days.

I haven't tried to keep track of actual numbers (thank you!) but battery life is clearly better. I usually do a three hour workout and that really pounds the battery on the Series watches. The difference is really noticeable.

Had been thinking about that, too. And it's really a height (thickness) issue more than what I'd call a size (LxW) issue.

I'm in that group and as an explanation of why I think it's fiddly - not as an argument, just reporting my experience - this is why I think it's a bit of a minor PITA:

1. the loops for the S-hook catch on the strap mount (there is probably a better term for that) - they're thick enough that you have to give it a fairly good tug.

2. securing the S-hook into one of the loops requires some effort and focus, at least compared to all the other Apple bands and straps. I can put on and secure the other straps and loops I've got without looking. I don't think I'm going to get to that point with the Alpine loop.

It's clearly not a crisis, just a user preference. There are lots of other choices, including the other two AWU bands that are being offered right now. :)

Charged to 💯 Friday morning when I picked it up. I have not charged it since. 36% left, a couple workouts and Clockology as of yesterday. No music use. Not much for texting on it. Did answer some calls.

Yes the screen is bigger. Technically speaking and visually. I prefer the flat screen. A smaller flatter less robust Apple Watch would still look better than it currently does. Think like Skagen flatness with a good battery. Probably an impossibility with all the sensors at least for a few more years. It would be cool to be able to sync multiple watches so you could easily change day to day of you want to. One can dream.

With around a 190mm wrist will the ocean band work? Want to surf in it needs to be secure.
Applle says

Band Size

One Size
Band fits 130- to 200-millimetre wrists.
My wrist is 193mm, and the ocean band works fine. I'm at the third hole from the end. That said, I wouldn't mind a bit more length.
