So many negative comments about his comments about ultra, sad. I am a watch collector too and became bored with the Apple watch and used it for the health benefits it offered, I.e. ekg and blood oxygen level. I had practically stopped using it and wasn’t going to upgrade to the new version of the Apple Watch but when I saw the Ultra I thought I’ll give it a try, and to my surprise it’s an absolute joy to use. So I agree with John Mayer and the hell with everybody else!

Sounds like you've got at least a series 6, which is pretty similar to the new offerings. Especially with watch OS 9 installed.

Is it the orange button? Lol. Or planning around ovulation? I can see that being a joy. 😉

Nothing screams advertisement more than a famous person endorsing something while promising it's not an ad - he may not have been paid to endorse it, but I expect the Ultra miraculously landed on his wrist expense-free, no strings attached.

This isn't Apple's fault per se, the whole influencer-fuelled SM endorsement business is just that crappy and inauthentic.
No, he couldn't give a rats ***. Freebie? seriously.

But that's just a guess. Maybe he's a total cheapskate. :D

He will have ruffled a few feathers in the mechanical watch collecting community because they see digital watches/smart watches as something that is cheap and tacky and thus beneath them.
I mean, in a sense, that community wouldn’t be wrong. Mechanical watches are typically pretty self-reliant (maybe some need battery changing every now and then). The digital watches are most definitely not timeless. In time, the software won’t work any more (maybe except to keep time and maybe GPS?) because the technologies the Watch depends on would have moved on. Mechanical watches can be heirloom pieces in ways that digital watches typically aren’t, unless you’re in to collecting old partly functioning digital watches :)

Oh please, the guy has been receiving free Apple product for years. They gave him a mac prior to release once, go search the video. Sontry hard influencing these days and is only for free stuff. He's not even relevant anymore in 2022.
Don’t forget Steve wanted him to endorse the iPhone (and even sent him one pre-release) but he couldn’t because his tour was sponsored by BlackBerry.

Not as big or bulky as you thought it would be but makes the Apple Watch 8 appear puny, OK.
Maybe my clumsy wording. It certainly didn't look as big or bulky IRL as the pictures suggested it would be - which I liked. But, somehow, when it was sitting directly next to the regular Apple Watches, it made them immediately look small. Hard to explain - when you're next in an Apple store you might get what I'm trying to say lol.

Yeah, I think I’ve seen much larger activity watches.

I used to wear the Forerunner 205 and then upgraded to the 305. These watches not only were big, but they wrapped around half of your wrist for a super bulky effect :) But also, they were never intended to be worn as daily watches, so it didn’t matter that they were super bulky.

Apple Watch Ultra has been endorsed by American musician and famous watch collector John Mayer, who has been showing off the new device on his Instagram account.

john-meyer-ultra.jpg

"Been wearing the Apple Watch Ultra for a week... and it's great," writes Mayer over a photo of the watch. "The first Apple Watch that excited me as a mechanical watch collector."

"It's loaded with capability and what I call 'aspirational functionality.'" Mayer then calls out some of his favorite features, including GPS tracking, a depth gauge, a dive computer, a siren to attract help in emergencies, and Night Mode.

"This is a camping/hunting/outdoors adventure powerhouse," he writes in a later post. "Not an #ad. I just like what I like."

Grammy award winner Mayer is considered the watch world's most influential collector, and is responsible for single-handedly spiking the value of individual watches he is spotted wearing in public, and of those he writes about in his column for horology website Hodinkee.

Mayer's influence is unlikely to have the same effect on the Ultra, which is probably being sold in the millions, but as GQ notes, his endorsement alone "probably registered as a sizable earthquake in Geneva" and will be a "huge deal" for anyone with a passion for Swiss watches and statement timepieces.

Apple has courted the luxury wristwatch world ever since 2015 when it unveiled the 18-karat gold Apple Watch Edition, which cost upwards of $10,000 and was available in limited quantities.

Unfortunately for Apple, unit sales of the gold Apple Watch Edition were reportedly in the low tens of thousands and the line was discontinued in September 2016 after just 16 months. Humorously, the models are now stuck on watchOS 4 and below.

(Thanks, Richard!)

It is all good, sorry for the snarky post, for a second there I was starting to wonder if there was some sort of an Apple salt mine operation to sing the praises of this watch, but salt mine bots are never self reflective, so yes, I will have to visit the Apple store and see for myself.

February 2010 interview in Playboy magazine. I will not quote him here as I will be suspended. But he uses the infamous N word, trashes in very ugly terms his famous girlfriends, refers to a certain male body part as David Duke and on and on. I realize you were trying to catch me out as you often do to those who present facts which you disagree with, so please have a good look at the interview.

Relax. I was just seeking substantiation.

My only complaint is that he's got the band on wrong/upside down. The passthrough loop goes on top (Apple's instructions).

Suddenly I no longer want the Ultra. I guess now John can add “financial adviser” to his ever-expanding resume.

"Humorously, the models are now stuck on watchOS 4 and below."

I don't feel bad AT ALL for anyone who bought that thinking it would have a long update life.
Wait, isn't it true for ALL Apple Watches? Sooner or later your device will become obsolete and won't get updates. As opposed to any mechanical watch that should work forever.
