I'm not really sure what would motivate me to upgrade my Ultra, before the ultra I skipped a few generations of AW because 5-7 were basically identical in features and functionality. Current Ultra has great battery life (I interchange between the ultra and other mechanical watches) so I charge once every 3 days or so, more than fast enough for anything the AW does, screen is bright enough, has cellular, wifi.

Basically, the only thing I want is better software.

if its 2025 then its magnificent ...remember microLed pixels are very very hard to be shrunken to this level for apple watch
Its no wonder microLED made its debut in very large displays
I don’t know anything about microLED so I don’t even know what everyone would be missing out on.

What rumored featured won’t be continually delayed at this point? 2024 seemed too early anyways though considering Apple’s usual generations of product design. MicroLED would be a big change for only 2 years after the first generation Apple Watch.

Dang I was going to wait for it in 2024. I've been really active with my workouts this spring and actually turned down some settings on my Series 4 the other day to extend the battery life which is falling off. Now I'll just update my Series 4 to the Ultra 2 this autumn. The main issue for me is I feel like the Ultra's screen could go a lot further to the edges, and I'm not sure if they will update that before changing the display tech. Sure the display will be much larger than my Series 4, but I want as much as I can get. I like the idea of the Apple Watch becoming more of a little wrist computer that it already is and see future applications for ChatGPT-like integrations and such presenting more information on the display, so I'll take all the millimeters I can get!

This will also put me on a cycle that is more likely to get the future blood glucose and blood pressure stuff they are working on closer to my next upgrade cycle in about five years, based on current rumors. I'll also be in my 40s by then so those metrics will be more important to me. For now I watch them casually, usually checking blood pressure every few months and glucose once a year at my physical and adjusting my diet and exercise to pull them out of the caution zone.
Not sure there will be update this fall on Ultra so I got mine a month ago. We shall see. I love it but yeah more screen always nice. For me that 3 plus years where maybe blood sugar is there and they do blood pressure would be good at 72 I have had high blood pressure moderated by meds well over a decade. This January my A1C went to 7.1 so I am into early type II and doctor is using meds for now. But also doing more on my diet now with wife’s help to watch carbs and calories (with dietician as well at clinic). I am down 25 -30 pounds in weight also and perhaps this will help with both but having this on watch would also be nice

Awaiting an iWatch Lite of some sort.... 7 days batter life minimum, tracks the absolute basics - sleep, heart rate, steps and gives notifications. one can dream!

I'm still hoping for an Apple Watch "Pro" which in my mind would be:
• 49" mm flat screen like the ultra
• as thin as the regular Apple Watch
• stainless steel (replacing the current stainless steel as ultra replaced the titanium offering)
• no action button or ugly rectangle thing around the digital crown
• slightly better battery life -- 24 hrs
To me this would be a more luxury version that would pair well with leather and a stainless steel bands. Hermes could be just this model.

I just got my ultra and then got this titanium band (49 mm) that goes with it looks pretty luxury to me I like the look

While I have no interest in the watch, I'm very interested in devices getting microLED displays. Once microLED starts getting used in mass production, costs will come down and it can become widespread and used in more displays. Then we can get rid of OLED.

Guess my Ultra is going to last me a good long time...
I certainly hope that is true for me too. The Ultra cost quite a bit for me.

Also, can someone explain what are the advantages (and disadvantages) of using microLED versus the current technology in the Ultra, in the context of a watch?

My husband's Series 5 which has Always On display has a faint burn in on the screen which really surprised me. Would microLED technology be more robust making burn in a rare possibility?

Update: Let me answer my own question :) https://www.microled-info.com/microled-vs-oled

Let's just get right to it. Go for quectoLED or nothing. Or planckLED, if you want to have courage.

I've had the AWU for about 4 months now and I've never thought, "man, this watch is great but I wish it has less bezel".

I originally bought a 45mm series 8 and the Ultra has a noticeably larger display.
