Good. I never thought of microLED as an improvement over OLED.

the main thing was part of this rumor was the display getting *larger*... although it could still fit in the existing size Ultra by reducing the massive bezels the current Ultra has. I'm sure there will be other physical changes by 2025, which will be the 4th gen of the Ultra by then (assuming small yearly updates, for example I bet it gets an additional color and the new CPU internals likely to be in the Series 9.)

Wish they would just un cripple it instead

No good reason why it can’t do stuff like say connect to my cars Bluetooth and why it needs to be around the phone for so much stuff to work

Better display would be betterer, but big picture wise it’s the least of the watches worries

Can Apple with its hundreds of billion of dollars in cash just build their own display manufacturing plant? New display technology is Apple kryptonite — always 5 years away.

I'll believe it when I see it. I wonder how much it will cost as the Ultra seemed well-priced next to the steel versions, which I think are now overpriced. Perhaps they kept the price low to entice users to upgrade to the Ultra models with ever-increasing prices in the future; people generally do not want to downgrade once they are used to something.
Interesting. I never considered that as a marketing technique.

Apple is working on an updated version of the Apple Watch Ultra that has an improved microLED display, but the device won't launch until the second half of 2025, according to information shared by display analyst Ross Young.

Young believes that the microLED Apple Watch has now been "pushed out" to 2025 at the earliest, which means rumors of a 2024 launch may now be outdated. Earlier this year, Young gave a more vague 2025 release timeline, but now he has dialed his prediction in to the latter half of the year.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has confirmed Apple's work on a microLED Apple Watch, and in January, he suggested that the device could come out at the end of 2024, but Apple's timeline has likely since shifted.

Early rumors about devices that are a year or two out can be unreliable in terms of launch timing as Apple often has to push back its release dates due to delays in design, component sourcing, manufacturing, and more.

The Apple Watch Ultra is expected to be the first Apple device to adopt a microLED display, but Apple is planning to bring the technology to the iPhone and other devices in the future.

i think its 7th half of 2029

I seriously DON'T see the point for the update. The newer Apple Watch screens are great. The Ultra is highly legible. But there is NO auto brightness. And brightness control requires 4 taps to change which is ridiculous. It should be a fast toggle in the control center. Make the software better, forget screen tech updates.

MicroLED is ultimately the future. MUCH higher brightness, lower energy consumption, same high contrast as OLED but with added longetivity and no burn-in.

Partially because microLED is supposed to be more efficient allowing longer battery life. Visually there may be little difference.

The benefit for Apple is in gaining experience in manufacturing these kinds of displays and what happens to them in the wild. That will be valuable once Apple starts to put them into phones and laptops.

Vital components from China are not anymore flowing in as they used?

For the price point they really should be made in at least a quasi free country, I’d much prefer a made in Mexico or Thailand apple product than china

I just got my ultra and then got this titanium band (49 mm) that goes with it looks pretty luxury to me I like the look

[...]

That band does look really, really good! Indeed, it makes it more luxury looking.

With regards to the stock Apple bands designed for the Ultra, I think only the Midnight Ocean Band looks the most lux and could blend in without looking like a sports/athletic watch.

Please, just make a watch with the ultra's features and durability but not so bulky. I'm willing to sacrifice battery life. I don't want a graphing calculator strapped to my wrist.
Besides the Action button, I'm not sure what features the Apple Ultra really has if you are willing to sacrifice battery life for a smaller watch. It's quite comparable to the Apple Series 8 Watch.

TBH, I bought the Ultra mostly for the increased battery life and Action button. It's a very expensive upgrade from the Series 4 just to have those two features. Worth it in terms of having it; not worth it in terms of price :)

I'm still holding on to a Series 5 Ceramic White and hoping this Fall, there will be a minor Ultra refresh with new color options (maybe ceramic white again? Maybe a dark anodized titanium?). Just not a fan of the current Ultra's gold-ish tint. Will be doing a marathon for the first time in Oct, so hoping that I can buy a minor-refreshed Ultra just in time for that!
Interesting. Gold tint? I don't see it. I have the Ultra and it looks just like what I think brushed titanium would look like: greyish silverish.
