As these watches keep getting bigger I wonder how many people will opt to start going watchless again or even to a regular watch. Or a minimal smart watch like Withings watch?
As many as the amount of people that went back to flip phones when smart phones started getting bigger...

AWU is like 4x4s/SUVs... Apple knows damn well that the vast majority of buyers will, at best, only aspire to the lifestyle it purports to be built for.
Yup! And that's smart marketing!

But for someone to purchase it knowing darn well its size and then complain about its size is so funny to me at least!

As I am 2 weeks away from turning 66 years old, I am pleased to report that I have never been insulted by someone's choice of watches. Peace.

There's a difference between noticing, and caring, let alone being insulted by, so I'm really not sure what your point is?

I suppose you're male? It's more accepted for men to wear bulky watches. Don't tell me watches aren't a status symbol.

Please, tell me again, how you wouldn't at least notice a bulky watch on a smaller-framed person... because you'd totally do. There is a reason why women's watches for decades had been designed significantly smaller (and thinner) than male watches.

Seems to really just be a nudge in size. Everything else being equal they might get a bit more battery life out of it (bigger battery) which is always appreciated. Do wonder when they push into the comically big he man watch bigness, lol - guessing that is still a ways off size wise.

A new Apple Watch Ultra with a larger 2.1-inch display will be released in 2024, according to a report today from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, citing industry sources. This lines up with information shared last month by Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities.

The current Apple Watch Ultra has around a 1.93-inch display, so the 2024 model would have nearly a 10% larger screen and would likely become the first Apple Watch with over a 50mm case size. The new Ultra is also expected to be the first Apple Watch to adopt microLED display technology, resulting in higher brightness, decreased power consumption, and improved contrast ratio compared to current models with OLED displays.

It's unclear if an Apple Watch Ultra update is planned for 2023.

Taiwanese research firm TrendForce today reported that microLED technology could allow for Apple to offer future products with "game-changing product innovations," ranging from foldable and rollable iPhone models to fully transparent AR glasses.

microLED display production costs are currently high, so Apple's transition to the technology will likely take many years to be completed.

In the meantime, Apple is still completing a transition to OLED displays across its product lineup. The first Apple device with an OLED display was the Apple Watch in 2015, while the iPhone started moving to OLED in 2017. Rumors suggest the first MacBook Air and iPad Pro models with OLED displays will be released in 2024.

Digitimes? That's no change to the display size confirmed.

Can they do something to fix the shape? I constantly am battling with sleeves of shirts or jackets getting stuck on the watch, and doing any activity with gloves on requires going to water mode to try to prevent random button presses from doing anything, but even then a bent wrist (like riding a bike) will push the crown long enough to unlock it and end up with problems.

turn the watch upside down, put the crown on your arm side not wrist, and it will be fine.

no-one here can solve your problem....

This was an inevitability from the moment it launched with those bezels. This is an instant buy for me. Question is whether I can keep my Series 4 running until then?

Different tools with different uses unless you're wearing your phone. Although a number of people do want smaller phones. And there is still a market for non smart phones. Just like vinyl is still selling today.

Not every device Apple makes will be for everyone, I don't know why there is such an uproar (except from those who have a compulsory need to buy everything ever released). These larger watches work better for me. I don't like the tiny fitbits that the older Apple watches feel like, those are for you smaller folks. People are usually not staring at my watch when I walk into a room. 😂

I guess if the bezels are reduced to the point where the overall size remains the same or even a smidgen smaller than the current Ultra I don’t see an issue. However, anything bigger would be comically ridiculous. 😂
