don't we all feel like an idiot putting out watch up to pay ?

We are only used to Credit cards and do not its crazy because most people has one.. new tech often even using APple pay from mobile, its still the odd few..

u wouldn't see 90% of the store all have their Apple watches or mobiles ready would u ?

This can only come from UK and US...

Now if u talk outside these areas, the graph will be allot different. Probably one of those, 'if it feels good, do it' type of moments, who cares if the shop keep give u a funny look, The point is it makes YOU feel better.

Maybe it's not completely being lazy. But on the opposite side, to describe paying with an Apple Watch as transformative, amazing, and magical? We're not curing cancer here people.

Only because I haven't finished writing my CancerCure™ watchOS app.

And this leads to my biggest Apple Pay complaint.....

They've GOT to educate store clerks on this...

Who's "they"?...

Starbucks do have contactless terminals in some of the London branches, hopefully they'll get round to upgrading them all soon!

Great. People pay $500 (or more) for a marginally useful device and the biggest benefit is that the device makes it easier for them to blow more money on yet more things.

Apple is the master of getting that money out of you, thats for sure LOL

Problem 1: Finding a place that accepts it
Problem 2: Finding a place that accepts it and it actually works
Come to the UK!

It’s about the best feature “new apple” have come up with in recent times. However if I hear the words magical or super any more I think I’m going to puke in my mouth!

81% use it for everyday shopping? I have yet to see a single grocery store with a working NFC device. And whats the point when you have to go into your wallet to swipe your stupid members card anyway?

Agree AP w/ AW is perfect. But AP on iPhone has saved my bacon @ Walgreens a few times when on a run as I don't have my AW on then, but my iPhone is w/ me. Maybe 2016 will be the year retailers finally come onboard with NFC en masse.
I think that we'll see a lot more in the next two months. I've noticed an uptick in the number of NFC readers lately, from Pandora Jewelry to the Lego store.

After October, without NFC readers, the store is on the hook for fraud.

I'm 100% with NFC readers that are turned on (I haven't gone to Rite-Aid when it was turned off), and the few times that it hasn't worked is when the whole NFC is turned off, so it won't take anything NFC-like.

I've never said that - and I don't know anyone who has. It's just a straw man argument that troll haters come up with.

Notice how haters do this all the time. For example, Hilary Clinton. She's a smart woman. But they can't pick on her for being dumb, so they pick on her by saying something sarcastic and extreme like 'she's the smartest woman in the world'. Now if she ever does anything less than perfect, she can be picked on. This is the same people do with the Apple Watch.

I'd use it WAY more if two things would happen:
1) If I found it in more places than McDonald's
2) If my main bank would finally support it. What's with that?!?

I hope that the October 2015 date comes and goes with more participants on the bank and merchant side. They are both motivated by the fraud liability, where the merchant is on the hook for card fraud if they don't take NFC.

When I complained to my bank that they're not using it, they called me back to tell me that "they're on the forefront of technology", and I called them out on it, where the guy then let me know that they should have it by 4Q15. October 1 or December 31, I know not, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I have seen progress on the card acceptance in my phone, though.

+1. :) Apple's big contribution with the watch is making it easier for people to spend money. Wow, they really are making the world a better place.

I love Apple Pay on my Apple Watch. I never use it on the iPhone. Infact Apple Pay is so quick i sometimes think i have not paid.

That's exactly what retailers want you to think. Unless one is uber-disciplined, the easier it is to hand over your money, the more you hand over.

no apple pay in Canada yet... still... :(
We have all of the infrastructure ready to go. 98% of all the terminals I've seen are NFC capable. I tap my card everywhere.

I wonder who has their heels dug in on roll out here, the banks or Apple. The deal isn't going through fast enough IMO.

The watch is great but:
The readers are all wrong. Most people are right handed which means most people have their watch on their left hand. Maybe everyone should start wearing there watch on the right now we have to do something with it?
  1. The readers on all buses in London are on the left but placed too high and the wrong angle to easily tap your watch against.
  2. The readers on the underground are on the right. So you have to almost do a 180 to get to the reader while going through the barrier.
  3. Marks and Spencer (shop) has it readers above the counter but below shelves/product. The reader has no gap behind it so there is nowhere to put your hand! Would be ok with a card as it doesn't extend further unlike a hand!
  4. No one displays there payment limit - usually £20, but unknown others have higher limits. Puts me off trying to pay if I think it is anywhere near £20 the limit.
All these readers were designed for use with a card which is simpler to "touch" against the display. My wrist will only bend so many ways in the 10 seconds I have to pay without the person behind me starts giving me a hard time and I they think "hey, it one of those di*ks trying to pay with his watch" ;-)

Very valid argument. One suggestion: in fact I wear my watch on the inside, rather than the standard outside of my left hand/arm, as I have my whole life - I imitated by grandpa. In fact it makes much easier most of the examples you gave.

Note that Apple never mentioned the possibility of a Apple Watch being worn that way, and the Apple Store guy I did a watch demo with claimed that they wouldn't work like that. In fact, so far as I can tell it works just fine. And no, I'm far from the only person on earth who wears it that way. Would be nice if Apple officially supported it.

Well, as they themselves say on their own "About Us" page:

"In a few years there will be more wrist-based devices than smartphones and, in our opinion, the Apple Watch is the catalyst for the wearables computing platform. Our vision is to contribute to the Apple Watch success by delivering innovative tools and services to developers and marketers of the platform."

They see it as their mission to tell good stories about the Apple Watch in particular. Exactly what they get out of it is unclear, but they ARE clear about the fact that they want to contribute to the positive spin about the :apple:Watch.
Or it could be that they view the product as a success and want to positively contribute to that success (not that they're trying to turn it into a success with positive 'spin'). Of course some people will raise an eyebrow at anything positive about Watch. And before anyone jumps in, yes I questioned the Slice stuff, but not because I thought it was inaccurate but because I thought it was an incomplete picture of how many watches had been sold.

It's not exactly payment but I stayed in Brussels last weekend at a SPG hotel that allowed me to open the hotel door with Apple Watch. A great experience http://verkeersbureaus.info/contributors/2015/08/18/67020-met-apple-watch-je-hotelkamer-openen/

See now that's cool s**t right there.

I could see this as their mission. They may be a young analyst firm that is trying to position themselves as the "go to" firm for wearable technology data and research. Very common... however, they should also be very fare and unbiased in their reports otherwise, companies will call BS on them and they will be dismissed as not creditable.

I've seen this sort of thing several times over the past 30 years.

However... at this point it's hard to tell if they are credible or not.
And do we know they're not fair and unbiased? Because the majority of media and tech sites proclaiming the watch a failure after only 3 months on the market sure aren't being unbiased. We can see the agenda from a mile away.

"Blow money on yet more things"??? The beauty of this statement is that it's so stupid and absurd as to make you look very bad. I actually think that you believe that having apple pay makes me spend money I wouldn't have normally spent just to use apple pay, whether on the watch or iPhone.

Yes, you're correct. I really didn't want that $4000 new tv, but I bought it just so I could use apple pay on my watch.
But the meat, produce, etc that I get at Whole Food and the prescriptions I pick up at Walgreens are the exact same products I would get if I used a credit card.

And the "fact" that's it's marginally useful to you doesn't mean it isn't very useful to me. Why do you think you can speak for me?

What is wrong with your people? Why do you make up absurdities in order to justify your stupid and blind hatred? Don't you realize you only demean and denigrate yourselves in the process. You certainly don't impress the intelligent participants here.

I'm still not following, unless your suggesting their "product" is positive surveys on Watch. But what's the motivation? Someone woke up one day and said I'm going to create a firm that puts out positive research on Watch? And they did this because?

No, their product would appear to be research and consultancy. Look at their website - for a research firm they seem awfully keen for you to believe the Watch is a big deal. They're just hyping the market and hyping themselves as super knowledgable. Basically they're banking on a gold rush and getting their pick-axe stall ready. By the looks of their about page they're probably all part time staff anyway. Just chancing a thing that might pay off.
