It's probably a tiny stock, and perhaps only the most expensive options. It's not like any of those stores wants hundreds of tech geeks lining up outside their stores on Friday or future launch dates.

I bet they're going to get the tech geeks and maybe the scalpers as well. I wonder what the criteria for getting your foot in the door will be? :D

Considering these are "high-end fashion boutiques", I'd be surprised if they actually sold the watches at retail pricing. I would expect hefty markups.

I wouldn't be surprised if these high end stores are taking "pre-orders" and holding watches for their best customers.

That in itself isn't a problem.

What is a problem is having her tell the world that Apple Watch will only be available online for the first few months, making people wait months for a watch, and then announcing "yeah, you can buy them here."

That's pretty misleading. She really screwed this up.

To be fair she wasn't telling the world though. She's telling Apple Store employees.

LAUNCH APRIL 24TH

BUT NO STOCK IN STORE

BUT THERE IS STOCK IN STORE

JUST NOT APPLE STORE EVEN THOUGH WE MAKE THEM.

most confusing launch ever.

Yea she really messed up her real 1st real duty in successfully launching a new product category. Hope this clear up eventually or I think she will need to be replaced.

It's not misleading at all. You can't walk into an Apple Store on Friday and buy a watch. The fastest way to get them is to order online. A couple thousand watches on sale at a few boutiques (and those boutiques have been known for quite a while as places that will sell the Watch) will be snapped up very quickly.

They are probably not going to be too thrilled about it, though. Colette doesn't need 350 scalpers outside their door on Friday. It doesn't quite fit into their image.

Ok, I've just read on a french website that Colette ordered something like 1000 awatches, mostly ss, and they are already alll sold-out as of today ( people lined up this morning to reserve theirs )...

Probably all with soft pink modern buckle bands while I wait until June. :(

Maxfield Los Angeles

I just called Maxfield and all the models will be available. Sport, Stainless Steel, and Apple Watch Edition. They will only sell you the watch by appointment. The appointments will be given on a first come basis to the people in line. They open at 9AM Friday.

Funny how people knew to line up before this was announced on MacRumors for the rest of us. They had to have some way to avoid the geeks and scalpers.

Because the news was actually announced on a FRENCH website ( igen.fr ) before Macrumors, wise guy  Macrumors isn't the only Mac newsite in the world.
And if I checked that site instead of checking Macrumors all day, I could have snatched one...

Whiners: You made it this far in life without the Apple Watch. Perhaps you can wait a little while longer before getting one?

I don't think it's entirely about the wait. For the ones who spent the time to be there at the second pre-orders began, just to find out that it's not just online ordering. Very confusing and deceiving to say the least. Was the pre-order simply a way for Apple to realise the actual demand!

and whom does the apple store employees pass that information on to…? US

About availability in Apple Store only, no? They can't tell us about other stores so how could this mean AA telling the world?
