Really don't post much. But, this truly has been a pretty confusing launch. Not sure who or what is to blame. Hopefully they can improve their transparency about theses processes while maintaining their secrecy on the product. Unless they are actually already selling the product as in the case of the Apple Watch since 4/10/15.

Not having a complete set of information about a product while trying to actually sell something is also not good. Fortunately for them, their competitors aren't much better. Unfortunately for us the consumer.

I'm sure who's to blame, really impressive that someone in such a high position doesn't have common sense.

I'm starting to see who Apple cares about and it's not their Loyal customers. I wonder how long it will take others to wake up. I hope this not the sign of future launches. WE ARE WATCHING YOU APPLE.

Loyal Apple customers will buy regardless, as will the general public who are enamored with Apple products. A couple hundred people grumbling on the various Apple forum aren't a grain of sand compared to the tens of millions of customers Apple has.

Unless your telling me their loyal consumer don't live in Tokyo, London and Paris and Milan... I don't get it. The stores are not just selling to the extreme high end; these stores cater to clients that would typically buy Apple products (and not just the Edition). Anyone can stand in those very long lines friday and "maybe" get one of the 300-600 phones each of those few stores have. If your rich, your not getting to the front of the line; so, your remark is completely non-sequitur.

These private outlets had contracts with Apple and likely Apple couldn't pull out its stocks from there without very big legal problems (and also likely losing those outlets to sell any future watches too).

In their own stores, they could decide not to sell anything without prejudice.

I really don't care about the high end stores but the way this launch is being handled. By way some of the rich already have the watch...

This maybe true, but time has a way of changing things...:)

If you are lucky enough to live near these stores, make sure not to forget your Burberry, Louis Vuitton and all that fancy crap the 1% care so much about. Thanks Apple, for totally dissing your loyal customers, sorry we belong to the 99%.

Right.. Because a handful of mega stars used for marketing comprise all the rich people in the world... And the edition watch is not back ordered (as per article that you "obviously" read before commenting (sic)). Guess, it is all poor folks that ordered them..

No over the top whine and exaggeration in your statement, not at all...

F&$k people, get over it. It's marketing 101. And it's working. And also, remember that less than .000001% of Apple clients are following these threads, rumours, etc... You are not representative of the whole. We are early adopters, geeks, nerds, ...what-have-you. Insignificant in the apple revenue stream. There's a lot of work ahead of them from a marketing perspective.

The preorders were nothing more than a soft launch to assess the demand for models and colours. They will now go into full production based on their findings and customer preferences and price points. This is nothing more than marketing research, to plan for the Xmas season. That is when the watch really launches.

The rest of the world still needs to be sold on the concept of an Apple Watch.

Not a whine just a statement... Also it seems like you are the one exaggerating I never said all the rich people of the world nor did I mention poor folks.... You are quite the spin artist.

This is one way to lose brand loyalty .. They don't care about loyal apple fanbase anymore I guess.

Apple Computers -> Apple Inc -> Apple Fashion Inc..

You said this : "By way some of the rich already have the watch..."
You implied what I said. You said rich (generic), not certain stars, and added "...". You could have said instead, "certain stars that Apple is using for promotion got their watches". But, I guess that doesn't have the same snide tone.

Apple has always been about design (which fashion is intimately related too), even when they sold computers. So, your whole spiel is pure invention.

If you think buying 8K computers (price of the Mac in 1984 in 2015 money) is for poor folkies, then you're out to lunch. Apple has always been for rich hippies/creatives (much alike Jobs himself); the same people that ARE running most fashion houses. Fashion houses have probably been big buyers of Apple wares since the 1980s.

If anything, Apple has become much more democratic and farther from their creative roots, in the last 8 years, with things like the Ipads (which are much cheaper than any other Apple product). Some people resent that by appealing to the Iphone crowd, Apple has lost those boho chic roots it had in the 1980s to early 2000s.

Every time Apple changes, someone complains and says Apple has lost its way. People were saying it 14 years ago when they launched the Ipod; what a "disaster" that was (sic)...

BTW, it is : "lose", not "loose".

As for walking away... Stop talking about it and do it.
See, how beautiful it is in Android land.

Please GO AWAY!

I don't think you understand the term frustration. Several people, including myself, have ordered Apple Watches right after the online store opened, just because we are GUARANTEED to get that Watch by Friday. And so was promised by Apple. Now, the weird thing is, people who had a 4-6 week delivery time frame are getting updates on their Watch. Whereas for me, no movement. I have every right to be frustrated and mad about this.

And nope, there is no way I am getting the Watch on Monday, and Friday, I lost hope on that several days ago.

Give me a break. I bet you get your watch on Friday. And if not then probably by Monday. These stores will have a handful of watches. Why would you want to mess with the lines there?

Is it just me, or is Apple turning exceedingly "Hollywood" lately?

So I still have hope I can get it release day...

I don't understand why these watches are not available in every Apple store from day one. There's nothing rare about it, for it to be only available at launch in a few places around the world. It's a smartwatch that will lose half of it's value in a year. Even the $17,000 watch is cheap in the world of luxury watches where Patek-Philippe's can easily go for $100,000 plus.

Have you tried buying a $100,000+ Patek? Year long waitlist with no definitely delivery date (if you get lucky they'll call you earlier, but still not definite). Four months to buy a damn strap, six months for a repair (maybe even more)...

Speaking of Colette in Paris, they acted like jackasses this week

a French customer was able to reorder 2 watches for an in-store pickup tomorrow

he posted the picture of his preorder receipt on twitter

then the store called him and asked him to withdraw from his preorder, threatening him to retain the deposit if he doesn't comply

his preorder was finally cancelled

he contacted the Apple Store Opera for advice then called Apple Retail France

yesterday, Colette called him back to mention that there was a mistake about his preorder as he got 2 units instead of 1 and allowed him to get 1 unit tomorrow

True

The other thing is that the Apple watch is a more outrageously new thing compared to a Patek.
A 100k Patek is not surprising and won't cost the owner much money over 10 years because it will likely be worth more in 10 years than now.
Also a 100k Patek is made in an entirely different way from a 500 dollar watch by master artisans by hand.

A 17k Apple Watch will be worth next to nothing in 3 years and it is functionally exactly the same and was manufactured using the same way except for the case.

These make the Apple Watch a more outrageous expense compared to a 100k Patek.

Just called one of the "selected authorized resellers" here in Beijing, and I was told if I were to kindly add RMB 1,700 (~USD 274) to the list price of a 42mm black Apple Watch Sport, which already costs RMB 2,988 (~USD 481.88), so for a total of USD 755, I am promised a watch on day one.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Report them to Apple.

I thought Italy was not apart for the first wave of launch countries?

The only italian shop with the Watch will be in Milan where EXPO is taking place from May to October. We expect millions of tourists here for the expo, and Milan is famous for its shopping district so I guess there is no better place in Europe to sell the Watch next month ;)
I'd also guess many Watch Edition models will be sold in Milan. There are plenty of rich guys coming from Russia, China, US and eastern countries that come to Milan basically for shopping and if they can spend $10000 on a purse they'll have no problem to buy the golden Watch

That's not so bad I'm 3 years into my wait for my Richard Sachs road frame, I've probably go 2 to 3 to go. I should email him and complain ;)

Fun to see you own words bite you, hey!
Been on the net since 1987 (BBS's since 1980), not going away.
You can of course ignore me.

You are just showing your age... How long you have been on the on the net means nothing to me. I'm done with discussing the Apple watch hopefully you can move on.
