Post a picture of a cable while talking about an adapter and notice how many people can't read. The adapter will be FROM the old cable, to the new port. $10 is reasonable. I've bought the $2 cables and adapters from china. They fall apart and are poorly made. It doesn't always pay to be cheap.

So why hell does Macrumors confuse the **** out of us with a picture of the new 5 pin cable? So the new 5 pin cable will be $19 (the current price of one) and will sell adapters that connect 30 pin to 5 pin? Is that what I'm getting at?

This really takes the value out of bundling. Saving a whole dollar for buying 3 isn't supposed to be how it works.

I don't think their intentions were really to make it a "value bundle", apple just likes the number $29 over the number $30.

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason (other than it being proprietary so they can make more money) that apple cannot use a standard USB plug like every other phone in the world?

are you kidding? you can get the current cables from amazon for $.80 each

Yep, and those cables will have dock connectors that fall off after one use, or loose internals that give only an intermittent connection, and require sufficient replacements that lifetime-for-lifetime it costs the same to buy the branded cable.

Too the ones saying it's too expensive, what, do you expect it to be $5? o_O And I'm sure that the cable itself won't be exclusive. And it's not an $18 profit! >.< They have much more to pay for aside from the parts.

I had just about enough of apple and their BS overpricing if this is true. About ready to dump the entire ecosystem with the exception of my mac mini. The elongated screen is rediculous, just give us what we want.

What is the issue here? Every iPhone 5 should come with the new style cable in the box, so the adapter is only necessary if you want to use old style cables or if you have old dock connector accessories.

I mean $10 is a lot for an adapter, but as long as you can charge/sync the phone fine without one I don't see any issue.

Obviously I would rather they put it in the box, but maybe not everyone would use it? Also $$$$ for them.

That's right. But the new cables are 9 pins, not 5.

Yes. Each device that ships with the new dock connector will have the new cable in the box.

The adaptors in question are for 30-pin devices (a.k.a. "legacy").

Just to show their "good faith" and that the change of connector was to allow for a newer, "better" (smaller, to leave place for other things) technology and not a scam to make even more money with adapters and new accessories, Apple should give a free adapter with any new product with the new connector, and/or make them available at cost price afterwards.

Sometimes, Apple, when you're raking in the cash like no other company in the world, it promotes goodwill to not rape your customers buy charging ridiculous prices on a cable that only you can produce.

That "good faith" would cost them millions of dollars they'd rather keep and delay the ultimate goal, which is to convert over the new standard as quickly as possible.

These kinds of things sound good on paper, but are not based in reality.

If Apple do this, then I will not be buying their new phone - or any products from there on. That is a SHOCKING mark up, and I personally will not stand for them ripping off their loyal customers, yet again. They obviously don't care about my opinion, but I hope others speak with action here too.

I hope this is all a pile of BS.

Yeah, sure. You'll be buying the new iphone just like we all will.

Okay, I'm confused. Is this saying that the only way to get a charging cable is to pay for it from Apple? Cause the one in the image looks identical to the cable you receive in the box just with the new connector end?

Or is this a cable for making physical iPod and iPhone docks able to support the new iPhone 5, in that case I can't see how this adapts anything, you can't remove the 30pin connector from a dock.

Am I just being dumb? Please fill in.

How is it shocking? It's the same price it's always been.
