It's not enough being the World's most profitable company, but now you gotta juice your customers for more money....shame!! Had no business changing the damn connector.:mad:

According to iLounge's source, Apple predicts it will sell 10 million adapters by the end of 2012, generating $100 million in revenue. It's likely that the adapters would have an extremely high profit margin and while this is a significant amount of money, it is but a drop in the bucket compared to Apple's total sales.

No kidding... Don't get me started on all the incredible thing this new adapter will be doing (and that the old one just can't) and why we absolutely need this... ;)

SMH! This should be free for iPhone 5 users. If it isn't, make the prices $189/289/389 then.

The current design is what, 10 years old? It still has firewire pins, for crying out loud.

With Macs finally getting USB 3 and Apple on a constant crusade to minimize the size of everything, it was time for a redesign.

wasn't there a agreement of some sort that all phones in the world should start using 1 and the same power adapter?

In the EU, but they already comply.

Where is smarmy As a Shareholder' (who usually has less than 10 shares) weighing in with how good this is for their portfolio like they do after every stock price story?

Right with you on that one

I'm sure that won't stop people from making an adapter and flooding eBay.

My prediction is we'll see them coming in from the PRC before the end of October. And, yes, they will be MUCH less expensive than $10.

$100 million extra dollars from an adaptor! That's absurd. You should get the new cord and at least one adaptor in the box as well, what about all the sound systems with the 30 pin built in or a car charger or countless other accessories. When the wii came out the wrist strap string was too thin so Nintendo gave everyone a free wriststrap string and later everyone was also given a free rubber coating for the remote. This cost Nintendo millions of dollars but it kept all their customers happy. Apple should do the same.

Bit surprised it's not mini-usb or so....

wasn't there a agreement of some sort that all phones in the world should start using 1 and the same power adapter?

It was a voluntary agreement, which Apple voluntarily declined to be a part of. There's no requirement or fine for not doing it.

Amazing, but not for MR, people complain even when they will have an alternative. Definitely love the brilliant Occupy Wall Street posts of 'greed'.

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet and buy a Samsung phone. I hear they are perfect and even sell at a loss to keep the OWS people happy.

To everyone saying "this should be free"...

Is there any indication that Apple won't include one with the new phone?

Well, they don't include MagSafe 2 to 1 adaptors with Retina MBPs. They want to push everyone to the new standard as fast as possible (and the extra profit of course doesn't hurt.)

Okay, I'm confused. Is this saying that the only way to get a charging cable is to pay for it from Apple? Cause the one in the image looks identical to the cable you receive in the box just with the new connector end?

Or is this a cable for making physical iPod and iPhone docks able to support the new iPhone 5, in that case I can't see how this adapts anything, you can't remove the 30pin connector from a dock.

Am I just being dumb? Please fill in.
Not at all, it's a good question.

The new $19 cable will have the new 9-pin connector on one end and a flat USB connector (USB A) on the other. Each iPhone 5 sold will include one of these cables in the box. Always have, always will.

The $10 "dock connector adapter" will have a female 30-pin socket on one end and a male 9-pin plug on the other end. It will allow your new iPhone 5 to be connected to any of your current accessories that came with a 30-pin connector/plug, including any "old" 30-pin/USB cables you probably have laying around.

That "good faith" would cost them millions of dollars they'd rather keep and delay the ultimate goal, which is to convert over the new standard as quickly as possible.

These kinds of things sound good on paper, but are not based in reality.

So sell it for $2, which is still probably 10x what it costs to make.

The adapter will be included in the iPhone box. They will sell them to those who would lose or damage it accidentally

I can always count on the store "5 Below" for cables for ipods/iphones, so I have no doubt that they'll have them eventually.

Understandable Apple will be the only supplier short term but 100% greed if they don't include ONE adapter in each new iOS device with the new connector.

I doubt they will since they didn't include a MagSafe to MagSafe2 adapter w/ the RMBP, but then again far more people have iOS accessories than Apple monitors. For simple "Good Will" Apple should include one in every box b/c you just know the media lashing they are going to take for something that isn't really going to net them big bucks. Appearance is everything.

I think this adapter will also work as extension to use with hard to dock bulky cases..
