So you think all the people seeing "sold out" today are just going to go buy Android phones? No, this just means more people will think about lining up at Apple Stores, or hovering around their computer hoping to get in on the next round of pre-orders when they open up. Saying "sold out" doesn't harm them right now. If this went on for a month or more, sure, but we're nowhere near that point right now.
You don't seem to understand how business works. It doesn't matter that those customers will buy in the future - it is always better to get paid now instead of later. Always. Conspiracy theories about artificial supply constraints are almost never true. It's a stupid, risky thing to do for any company, especially one as large as Apple who has historically not been able to keep up with demand. Saying anything otherwise is pure tinfoil hat garbage.

Now I understand why there are always lines in front of their stores with new introductions. Only being able to pick it up at a store makes the impression its very popular. Pure marketing procedure as is the low in stock and first come, first served thing. I'm very curious about the numbers this year as competitors seem to have the same or better features and build quality at half the price (specifically interested in China numbers, that's the place all high tech is happening today).

I heard that sales of the Note 7 are on fire.

Pre-orders "selling out" means absolutely nothing in the big scheme of things. We all know they could artificially decide to limit the early numbers, to give the impression of high demand. It's not that complicated. If sales are big, they'll let us know. If they don't want to talk numbers, there is always a reason for that, and it's not a positive one.
Exactly. There was an article here saying the production started too late due to some issues. They simply didn't make this time as many phones as last years.

You can still wake up Friday morning and purchase to pick up in store when they receive their stock that's always been a good bet for me if I miss the preorder.

I didn't say they were going to artificially limit supply for long. Just that the words "sold out" right this moment mean nothing. Let's see if they're still saying that in a couple weeks. That's when it will mean something.

I thought nobody would buy it with the headphone jack missing. What does Apple need to do to make people not want it so that I can have it on launch day?

It takes courage to get up at 3AM like I did. And wait for the Apple store to open really late.

The guy at the Apple Store said that even thought I've reserved the regular 7, if there was stock, I could still get the 7 Plus :)

You could go to your cellular carrier’s store instead of the Apple Store. Most folks go right to the Apple store to buy new iPads and iPhones on Launch Day.

How about everyone on the IUP (including me) just not being allowed to order or get a phone? I can't wait to read that story...but Apple will never admit that they knew they had no stock for us, or that it was on purpose. Seriously though, on their own upgrade program it seems like most of us were unable to order. That is really, really pathetic. It is one thing to see shipping times slip, it's another thing entirely to NOT LET US ORDER while we watch times slip...

Yeah, or at least let us ship to the store. If the store doesn't have stock, we can't get it shipped to us, so we're screwed. I could've easily gotten the phone I wanted shipped to me on launch day but now I have no idea when I'll get it bc my store didn't have it and I'm on the upgrade plan.
Same boat. I'm really pissed that they basically said **** us cuz they know we are kind of locked in

Lol, they were. I got one. It was one hot property! My husband and I miss ours dearly and are waiting for Samsung to get the replacements to AT&T.

Well y'all can't blame me for the shortages this time. I did my part and sat this one out. ;)

I think if they would have colored in those antenna lines on the gold and rose gold a few more people might have gone for those colors. But the blacks totally hide the lines or blend them in better and that looks slick. I'm not surprised they sold out so fast. Best new colors ever, IMO.

Confused by this article - The reservation system is still available in the UK.

If you want to buy it outright and pick it up in store on launch day, you need to go via the Apple Store and pay online this year - Presumably they want to speed up in store reservations so staff have more time to do iPP sales.

If you want to use the "old" reservation system (without paying online), that's only for iPhone Upgrade Program purchases in the UK, and is still available.

To the people gleefully celebrating these stories about pre-orders, just stop and ask yourself why Apple would preemptively announce they won't be releasing first weekends sales figures. Companies DO NOT do that if they believe the sales numbers are going to be great.

They're not artificially limiting anything. You don't have billions in the bank by NOT selling stuff. The issue is simple. By the time they finalize the design/iOS they start immediate manufacturing and stock piling warehouses. The amount of people buying would would require they stock pile for months without sales, and what's the point of them doing that? Just so we can all get one on the same day!?

If they can manufacture 20mil phones by Sept 16th and demand is at 50mil, they're going to ship those 20mil phones out. They're not going to just wait it out and ship everything in Oct/Nov so that all 50mil can have a phone on the same day!

Let's hope the system works this time and (I live in the UK) we're not directed to the US site. This morning was a shambles; could only connect on 3/4G as Wifi connections were refused - there are multiple reports on this, and it appears the only options available were in gold and rose gold.

I have a 6Plus and have been looking forward to this update but I'm really annoyed that the system didn't work this morning and I wasted my time.

I am so glad that this wasn't just me.

Had no problem securing 2 I phone 7 plus 256GB in Gold was up at 2am and the deal was done at 2:10am with estimate ship date of 9/23/2016 or sooner.

We all know that a stupid company would leave money on the table by "artificially limiting" supply. Supply constraints are real and another (more reasonable) reason for Apple not releasing weekend sales numbers is exactly what they said. They won't be as high as normal because supply is limited due to manufacturing constraints. Sounds like a few folks around here need to grab their tin foil hats, quickly.

is there a way to pay in store so I can sell my iPhone towards the 7? or is there any way I can sell my iphone 6s and put it towards the 7? Can someone tell me the steps please.
