An integrated Magic Force Touch trackpad sounds all fine and dandy but not in that form from a Macbook design. Why would you?
Glass keys would scratch a glass screen. Plastic won't.
There is no reason the display has to touch the keypad. I'd rather have glass keys and a computer slightly thicker so there is space than thinner and plastic keys.
Also, I've been emailing Tim Cook for the longest time to give us glass keys on MBP.
Just FYI, the title is very misleading. This is not for a BACKLIT keyboard (LED lights behind keys). This is for the F5 and F6 that serves as brightness up and down for backlit keys on MacBooks.
I'm actually looking for a keyboard + trackpad that mimics a macbook but for a Mac Mini/Mac Pro. It's VERY convenient to have a trackpad that's on the same level as the keyboard but under the spacebar. I rarely have to move my right hand to switch between typing on a keyboard and moving the mouse.
This is one of the main reasons why I exclusively work on a Macbook as opposed to getting a mac pro/mac mini.
Never thought of that but you're right. Apple should get rid of plastics entirely.
Glass keys sounds like an excellent kickstarter/etsy business for someone. I bet it would be popular.
Yes it is stupid that you have a white keyboard with the black Mac Pro. Those white keys show grime really easily too. I'd much prefer black to match my rMBP.
Also, I've been emailing Tim Cook for the longest time to give us glass keys on MBP. I have a $2k beautiful 15" rMBP and 99% of the interaction I have with it comes by way of cheap plastic keys. Just think how nice glass keys would feel on your fingertips?
When I look at my MBP I only want to see aluminum and glass... everywhere. And I certainly don't want to touch plastic.
Does the bluetooth actually work? I have a K800, which has great range using the dongle. I also have a Magic Trackpad, which is so limited I want find an Apple engineer to throw it at him. Had similar problems with Apple's bt keyboard, not using any of those, anymore.I wrote up a review for the K750 a couple of years ago. I just used it yesterday at work, since my external hard drive has been dying.
The biggest drawback to the K750 is it uses one of those ridiculous Logitech dongles, instead of using Bluetooth. Considering that the K750 for Mac is designed for the Mac, it would have made sense to use Bluetooth, which has been available on Macs for many, many years. Even my PowerBook G4 from 2003 has Bluetooth! The Logitech dongle takes up an important USB port on a laptop. Since the keyboard is wireless, it doesn't have any other ports to connect up other devices (mice, phones, etc.). Fortunately, the K760 corrected this problem and connects via Bluetooth.
Exactly! This was my sharpest criticism of the K750. There was no reason that Logitech didn't use Bluetooth for the Mac model, considering Bluetooth has been built into Macs for well over a dozen years. Having to lose a USB port for the Logitech dongle is a deal breaker, especially if one is using a laptop.
The only real good use I've had for the Logitech dongle was when I used the K750 with my year 2000 PowerMac G4.
Bring back the wireless extended keyboard!
Sure there is. The plastic keys already touch current Macs. And though they probably are meant to leave at least a little bit of space, you're going to have to account for flex.
If they gave enough space to account for severe flex, then they'd be giving up battery space or thinness of the MacBook itself, and they've already shown that thin and battery are primary features, even going as far as engineering an entirely new shallower keyboard.
I sympathize with the desire for a glass keyboard. That would definitely be slick, they just won't do it. Not to be cheap, but for design and material reasons.
I really hope so!
I would really like that too.
Especially with the new butterfly mechanism keys, individual key backlighting, and Force Trackpad like the new 12" Retina MacBook has:

People tend to complain about things they're not immediately used to.Sure hope not. If you read reviews of new MacBook, not much positive reviews on new keyboard keys.
Not to mention added weight.I sympathize with the desire for a glass keyboard. That would definitely be slick, they just won't do it. Not to be cheap, but for design and material reasons.
Bring back the wireless extended keyboard!
