Every Apple watch on every wrist is a walking, talking advertisement for Apple. If you choose a crap combination (obviously not to you, but really, some of us shouldn't be allowed to shop for clothing unsupervised) then that's crap advertising for Apple. They're trying to control the image during the critical early phase. So what.

This whole choosing, buying and setup process looks convoluted to me. This has a lot of potential to backfire. There a lot of surprises for the uninformed average joe like the necessity of an iPhone for the watch to work or that stainless steel and gold watch buyers get special assistance, which the "poor" sportwach buyer doesn't get. I am still interested in a silver Sports Watch with a black band (is this even possible?!), but i will wait until this launch mess is over.

No, silver sports + black strap isn't possible at launch.

And different CS levels aren't new. If you go into a car dealership looking to buy a ferarri you're going to get more attention than if you're trying to buy a ford fiesta. Just how it is.

It's starting to sound more and more like buying a car. When you just want to pay cash and be done in twenty minutes but the dealership has this weird ritual where they have to offer you finance.

Convoluted sales practices are so off-putting.

I don't think it matters too much. Im sure most of us have already made up our minds about which band we're getting anyway.

I'm more interested with the inundation of 3rd party bands that will follow. For me personally the apple band is only temporary.

Your car analogy doesn't really work here. (Btw. Who buys a ferrari in a store, which sells Fiestas in the same room?). This is definitely new for Apple. So far the 11'' MBA buyer gets the same attention and assistance as the 5K iMac buyer.

Probably much easier and a lot faster to just order it, try it on at home and return.

it must be days before physical release. people are going absolutely mental. lol some of these comments are hilarious. i can see them in a buzzfeed 'top 10 most ridiculous apple watch comments' sidebar already

Jesus I just looked at the UK pricing, not that I want one, just wanted to see if the usual $-£ translation is in full effect... For the 42mm Stainless Steel you'll be paying £600! ($890). Haha, I think I'll definitely be giving this a miss.
Tim Cook just said they treat all their customers the same, must mean badly. Man I can't believe that price, someone is sure making a pile of money, although I don't think you're missing out on anything.

Just cancel this stupid product. Divert the future billions you will waste to improving OSX, Macs, and iPhone.
Wearable is the future. OSX, Macs, and iPhone will not live forever.
The watch will not waste billions, margins on the watch will huge, they will bring in some extra billions, and help pay for improving the old boring stuff.

Total BS. Apple has a long way to go in terms of playing with the big boy watch sellers. Even at its cheapest you're still shelling out a lot of cash, and apple only wants you there for 15 mins, AND you can't try other watch straps before making a decision?

Bunch of jokers.

Oh gee another thread providing the children a chance to compete to be the first negative comment - we have a multiple way tie with this one.

Oh wait, that's all stories on MR these days.

BTW, thanks for all your useful and valuable insight, ya negative nellies, such mature comments as yours really add to the discussion, especially the ones that indicate their non-interest, those are the most on topic and of most use for others wishing to discuss the details of the story.

It's taken humanity hundreds of years to come out with a magnetic watch band. If this product fails, at least we will have watch bands that actually fit our wrists instead of having a watchband that's in-between a link or buckle hole.
You do realise that there are already plenty of watchbands out there that are not working with predetermined buckle holes or are only adjustable by removing/adding links? Just as an example:

I like Apple I really do, but all of these "rumors" I'm hearing is just pulling me closer and closer to wanting an Android Wear. It's as if they keep restricting what people may want and aside from normal Apple price gouging.

Pulling you closer to Android Wear because you can can try one on with your choice of 20 different bands & have staff take out links just for try on? I don't think so.

Apple is restricting what people wear, just what combinations they can try on. It's a time thing so every who wants to try out the watch can w/o monopolizing staff. If there is a band you really want to try buy it and return if you don't like it.

Somehow you want Apple to bring you champaign for your consideration of a $350-1500 watch?

If you're paying £10,000 for a single watch, this would be the least I'd expect. Weak move Apple.

If you'll be buying the 10,000 dollar watch, you'll be getting it at your exclusive retailer that probably knows you by name and they'll be catering to your needs. To put it another way, you'll not be going to an apple store with the unwashed masses to buy a 10,000+ dollar watch

That's fair. I wasn't aware they'd be selling the :apple:Watch at 3rd party retailers. But still, trying on a few bands would be something I'd do when shopping for a new watch. £350 for a watch is still a very expensive watch in my eyes. For many that's nearly two weeks wages. I understand Apple Stores are crowded enough as it is, but surely there is a better way than this.

I don't know what you mean. Who needs these old-fashioned salesmen with nice suits, when a 20$/h Apple Genius (wearing a T-Shirt over a T-Shirt) offers better fashion advice?
