Specifically, he said that Apple is working on an additional monitor, codenamed J527.
It could very likely be either 2nd gen Pro Display XDR that is due to be released alongside 2nd gen Studio Display. Both needs upgrade but Pro Display XDR definitely needs one. It also really needs a built in FaceTime camera like Studio counterpart.

4K resolution at 144Hz over HDMI

4K resolution at up to 240Hz over HDMI

6k and 8k are only 60Hz Thunderbolt.

The new M4 Max and M3 ultra

Unless the new monitor has HDMI ....

Quick, quick, publish something to draw attention away from his devastating comments about Siri and the loss of the Jobs ethos...

The current 27” and 32” 4K 240hz OLED monitors will eat whatever overpriced DOA trash apple releases as monitor with equally lame sounding names like Pro XDR Ultra Neophoenix Retina Thundercat.
No. Color accuracy is a main in here for professional works. Asus ProArt monitors are also expensive but most of the top versions are not offering OLED as a display option. You say that 240 HZ OLED monitors will eat these overpriced ones?

iMac 32" 6K, please in a M4 or M5 for $1.7k.
We wish. Base price would be 3-4 times that, and fully configured over $17k.

Solid prosumer here, and I’d be highly interested in a 27” M5. Bigger than that the price goes into the stratosphere and I’d have trouble justifying it.

I'd give my third tail for the Studio Display to be more customizable. Particularly the addition of a 4k version for use with devices like Xbox and Switch. I know it's unlikely though, especially if they're set on omitting HDMI.

Make a monitor with a docking station/slot for a Mac Mini. One power cable only to the wall, monitor dock has both a power cable connection for the Mini and also a Thunderbolt 5 link to the Mini. Come up with a good name for it.

Great, now they just release new Studio macs who need displays. So we are forced to buy old displays now (coming from an iMac Pro).

name even ONE that comes close in color rendition! None.

27” version of the mini-led they had in the previous MBPs

32” version of the Tandem OLED in the M4 iPP for new XDR
Came here to say the same. XDR replacement will be Tandem OLED, well north of $5k, released with new Mac Pro.

I cannot tell the difference between the different pixel types. But I have two Apple Sutido Displays on my primary computer and other than wishing I could get audio from both simultaneously, they are the best monitors I have ever had or come across.

I have absolutely no need for 120 Hz refresh in a display that I primarily use for accurately processing my image files for subsequent printing. Which is where ASD shines.

My 2 year old ASD is outstanding if you’re fussy about color and easily making accurate prints - first time, every time.

I think many here don’t understand who the market is for ASD.
I wish we did, and had Apple's market research to establish the best understanding of what that target demographic is. It's key to understanding what Apple 'should' strive to offer, and not to. It's not clear to me the rest of us to understand just what it is.

Is it to enable generalist home users to 'iMac-ify' a Mac Mini or Mac Studio? Or to act like a docking station and single cable 'desktop-ify' a MacBook Air or Pro? If so, the built-in spacial audio sound system and Center Stage webcam make some sense.

-----Many such users have a game console and/or work laptop (often Windows) and would benefit from HDMI connectivity, etc..., to use with a non-Mac system, and KVM functionality to switch back and forth.

-----Given that it's Thunderbolt upstream (to computer), and may be used to 'desktop-ify' a MacBook, how about a couple of downstream Thunderbolt ports and more ports to serve as a better dock?

Is it a 'prosumer' who uses it that way, plus generates some professional content, such as a YouTube! influencer, etc...? Someone with greater color accuracy needs than mainstream home users?

Is it the professional who mainly uses it in an office setting?

There's overlap, but there are a number of price-jacking up 'features' that some people really like and others would take a pass on for lower prices.

1.) Sturdy aluminum body with an industrial minimalist aesthetic rather than one with a lot of 'plastic.' How many hundreds does this add to the price? Some people think it's a big deal, and some a silly extravagance on something you seldom touch that sits on your desk, seen mostly from the front as a screen with a thin bezel.

2.) Spatial audio - reviewers claim outstanding for an in-monitor sound system, but in-monitor sound systems tend to be viewed as crappy, to the best of a bad lot? If you can hook up a fairly cheap set of external speakers, does this matter? And if you buy 2, you're probably only using the sound system in one.

3.) Center Stage Webcam - like built-in sound, it seems some Pro XDR professional users don't want this stuff in the Pro XDR, where it would jack up cost and offer them...little use. They either don't need it or would rather buy higher quality webcams.

On features, how about the basic stand including height-adjustability at no added cost, and the display back including VESA holes with the stand removable, so you don't have to choose between VESA holes and a stand? These features are common in non-Apple displays.

Anybody got any figures on what the Apple Studio Display user demographics look like? Roughly what % are home users vs. office, home users vs. prosumer or professional users, etc...?

Would you rather buy it for a grand without spatial audio and the webcam, or $1,600 with those things?

My suspicion tells me there is no mystery monitor.😳 It's another ploy to weed out leakers. Apple wants to return to the secretive company it once was. They want to shock the world when they release a new product.🤫 Nobody outside Apple about the iPhone before they announced it. No one knew about the original Mac until the 1984 commercial.

There's a purge going on at Apple. Loose lip employees will find themselves unemployed with the additional stigma of being untrustworthy.
