I understand a documentary, but I'm not sure how this could be a recurring TV series? The app design and development process fascinates me, and it's a part of my daily work. There can be a lot of push and pull back and forth from different parties involved. Most of the drama I've seen usually involves contracted work, haha. And within the startup environment (of which I am not involved but through friends) there are bound to be some interesting stories about companies competing to be the first one to release a new app idea that they know someone else is working on. But I doubt most people would find this to be interesting television.
I don't know man. You can never underestimate the appetite of the viewing public. For whatever reason they love reality TV. Make no mistake, non-scripted, episodic TV = Reality TV. Horrible idea in my opinion, but doesn't really matter. It will find an audience. I mean, if Honey Boo Boo, Real Housewives, and the Duggans can find an audience then a show about app designers fake fretting over a looming deadline only to miraculously finish their app at the very last minute will find an audience too.

Will.i.am? Not really the kind of person one should trust in terms of Apple product knowledge. Remember that line of iPhone sleeves? I had to get glaucoma treatment after seeing that monstrosity.

A TV show about apps? How about a decent, Apple-built app that lets me watch all the TV shows I want within a few hours after the air on live TV? I'll even pay you every month for such a service, Apple.
While it would be awesome, I guess it's safe to say you likely know very little about the business of television. The amount parties you must negotiate with to make something like this happen would make your head spin.

I'm giving them the benefit of a doubt on this one. Now for the rush of the "pick me!" from thousands of app developers to make the show.

So is this an attempt to put out some spin on the narrative that the App Store economy is broken except for the 1% of app companies? Because this sounds a bit like whitewash propaganda. The days where a one or two-person company can have a thriving app business are gone.

To be fair, it wasn't as bad as Lady Gaga with the Polaroid partnership. That really didn't go anywhere.

Still hoping Apple produced "Hot Pockets: The Series" aren't you?

Heh. My first thought was:

Oh no! It's going to be like the movie Pixels, only about smartphone apps instead!

Arrrrrgh :D

Hey, but what about a Shark Tank type of show for apps? That could be useful for developers, at least. Throw in realtime dial-up voting and they'd have instant feedback from viewers.

Will.i.am??? What is wrong with Apple? A man with no talent (does anyone remember the hideous iPhone camera he designed) making a tedious tv show about apps. I would rather burn my telly than watch that rubbish, and please don't even get me started on Dr. Dre.

Don't forget about his hideous car design

Just film me real fretting over the fact that the higher-ups want an update by summer for events we have going on where we can promote it, but won't sign off on the money for it because there's some technical stuff in there that they don't understand. They want to meet about it first but keep moving the meeting later and later because their schedule is too busy. Hah. I do the design work but project manage the development with a team we contract with to make sure milestones are being met, the app is bug-free and matching design, and I verify my designs with usability testing.

Although honestly what I do is probably boring compared to watching the next Snapchat build something fun for the masses. My app is more niche, but if you're a farmer it's pretty cool to get a push notification from a university researcher or state extension worker in the field who noticed an invasive pest moving into your county or whatever other things concern farmers. They can snap a photo, write a blurb and link to what you can do to prevent it. Pretty sure we're the first to offer something like that. You only get notifications based on what interests you for your part of the state. While the UX has been great for users, it wasn't great for the people creating the notifications having to use the WordPress app, so now I've designed a streamlined posting system that hooks straight into the WP API, which is also easier to sign up for than previously, and only uses the one app with login capability. The hope is to get more researchers and extension people on board by making it less convoluted and easier to register as a reporter.
