I'm surprised it's taken this long. I thought you would be able to stream all of your media from your Mac to your iPad on a local network day one. There are apps available for this that even include streaming over the net, but Apple really needs to offer this built-in on iOS out of the box. Turn on your iPad/iPhone/iPod and see all of your pictures, movies and music sitting on your Mac instantly. I've been waiting for this.

The Plex app along with the Plex Media Server on your computer performs these functions quite well. The app is $5 and PMS is free. Built in by Apple would be nice, but not necessary when others are doing it well, and cheaply.

Facebook and Twitter. This isn't about just sharing pictures and video anymore, so I expect this to be part of a move into FB territory, don't you?

Welcome to the boards, noob. :D

Seems like Apple's put in a lot of work for something that you'll only use once or twice... I really hope the data center wasn't built solely for features like this.

Just give me a better photos app that ties into Aperture and iPhoto.

Let me actually be able to move photos into new albums and change metadata if I would like. It doesn't even have to be as "full-blown" as iPhoto. Just a simple photo management app.

I couldn't care less about social media photo streams to be honest.

This is what I'm thinking. Who really cares about all this extreme social network "I have to be constantly updated to what my 'friends' do" stuff?

Sometimes I wonder how this society has made it this far.

+1, i dont want my friends to know exactly where I am 24/7. could come in handy sometimes, but totally overkill in most cases.

Find My Friends (not Ping, not photo sharing, not anything Facebookish) is the ONLY social feature from Apple that I’m really interested in. As you say, it’s only useful sometimes... but that’s true most apps! Finding each other at a large venue. (Parking lot, trade show, amusement park, hiking trail, shopping district, art walk, zoo.) It could even be useful when someone is leading you by car.

The rest of the time... I don’t want to know where my friends are, what they are doing, or what they Like! If it’s that interesting, they can let me know.

I am just completely puzzled with the direction MobleMe Has Taken.

Is this really a "Feature" ??

Ya is this really all that MASSIVE data center is for??? Doesn't add up!

Yes, I think MobileMe needs to get a LOT better, so let's hope Steve is not blowing smoke. That huge data center has to be for something like what you are saying, I sure hope anyway!

Seems like a lot of posts complaining about MobileMe and the price so please allow me to digress back to the point of the rumor - more social features.

Sure, photo streaming isn't super hip or cool but if Apple could make it easy for you to find and keep in touch with people you care about online that would be VERY cool. And by very cool I mean cool in the sense it would be a "facebook" without giving up my heart and soul to facebook. I am really disliking facebook and am open to any BETTER solution which doesn't require my personal data sold to other companies.

I'm in agreement - must be free, or at least key parts of it related to basic mobile usage.

or put another way, a long needed service included with the costly investment that being an iphone / ipad represents.

I can't get over how many people expect all this for free. I buy my yearly subscriptions on ebay for $50 (Aussie) thats like 25 Euro or 30 pound. That is for a full year. I have been a user from the .mac days and I will continue to pay for it. I have seen so many people loose all their contacts for example because their computer stuffs up. I have the idisk that I use for file sharing plus the email as well.

Please note as well that I run three computers and the benefit of everything just been the same is well worth it.

The video chat I like. Hopefully facetime is either integrated into iChat or added as a mac app, so we can video chat with more people.

And more useful than the feature no one new they needed, streaming photos, would be a picture-in-picture frame to play either whatever video player or Netflix is playing while you're working in any other app. It's a small screen at 10", but being able to watch video while working on a spreadsheet, & just drag or pinch-resize the window to whatever corner it's most out of the way in & keep working... that'd be the next-level equivalent to listening to tunes while you're working.

Tho, opening up the USB port to apps would be the biggest boost to productivity apps they could make.

Apple should just forget "Social Features". There is way too stiff competition from, well, everyone and they are doing it for free. There really isn't point trying to win something that can't be won. Instead, Apple should concentrate on new and unique aspects of the service and not trying to duplicate something that others are offering already and yes, they are doing it for free. MobileMe should enable its users to have all their data in the cloud service so they could always access them. Find your friend feature? Use Facebook or some Google service or on of those other services.

As far as I know you can already chat with people on a Mac using Facetime...

neat-oh

This all sounds very interesting but I am not going to keep jailbreaking my phone over and over.. I am going to keep 4.1 until apple does do something a little "interesting/new" that's worth while.

Sounds promising though!

Are Apple going to censor your photo's you upload and remove any it deems inappropriate, or would your photo's be private do you think?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

This sounds like an extension to the RSS feeds you can publish to and subscribe to via MobileMe via iPhoto. The pictures are then viewable on the AppleTV, iPhone, others computers etc. Sounds like this only the photos on your phone will be streamed to all your devices and computers - when you open iPhoto or your iPad, AppleTV etc the picture you just took will be there... and your friends can subscribe to your photos and see them instantly too. If that's the case I think it's pretty cool - I imagine you can set filters for photos too so people only see a folder or tagged images .

Edit for link to how it currently works: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/gallery.html

The feature they need to add to it is - wireless itunes synching - LONG OVERDUE:mad:

Cmon mobile me and time machine already wirelessly synch.

you are correct - overdue. (however, it should be a standard feature, not a necessarily a mobileme thing)

A good step forward me thinks.

Myspace is for sale (or about to?), flickr is becoming less populair. Now is the time to step up and claim some territory with a music & photobased social network.
