I have seen first hand those updated iPad 2 cases...
You can forget about the display port or usb bit. As for SD card, don't keep your hopes too high, it might turn out to be turn out to be for something really essential on the iPhone... ;)

Think it's going to all eventually sync to the server and be available to all your devices (music, movies, etc)

I think you are right, but it would still be nice to have wireless local syncing (outside of mobileme)

The one feature that is genuinely lacking on the ipad (for me of course) is the ability to browse photos stored on my MacBook pro. It means that when I'm writing an email to friends and family in which I want to include photos, I have to do it via my laptop. It annoys me that the iPad cannot yet been seen as a laptop replacement because of it. O well.

Uploading photos to the web is useless, there are already dozens of such services c

With the ability to create documents and take photo's on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad (soon) they really need to come up with an iOS version of Time Machine so we can wirelessly back up all this data. I think a lot of Mac users have become used to having their data safely backed up regularly and automatically, I'd be nervous about having only one version of a document or photo, especially on an easily lost or stolen device.

I hope that MobileMe will become free when iOS 5 comes out. That would be a blast.

I'd switch to MobileMe from gmail in a heartbeat.

I think this could be a really useful feature for people with multiple iOS devices.

Let's say I'm out and about, snap a picture, and later want to edit it on my iPad (because of the bigger screen, more advanced editing tools). Currently, I have to sync my photos to a computer, then sync my iPad to get the photos on there. With this, I won't have to do anything: snap the picture, open my iPad and it's there. It would be particularly good if it was later extended to include movies as well - the iPhone can take HD movies, but I'd prefer to edit them on the iPad's larger screen.

Of course, you could always use DropBox to upload from your iPhone, download on your iPad. The problem with that is that you still have to manually select and sync the photos. This does it all automatically.

Certainly a useful feature. Less certain about the 'find my friends' one though. At least with the people I know, nobody uses FourSquare or Google Latitude. I'm not sure people like not having privacy.

And by very cool I mean cool in the sense it would be a "facebook" without giving up my heart and soul to facebook
No worries, Apple's going to get all of you without you're knowledge. No one is more secretive and closed than Apple.

They've already brainwashed their minions & Apple apologists abound. Denial is a way of life within the walled garden. Kool Aid anyone?

We're not all salivating like rabid dogs at Apple products. If you haven't noticed, Apple loyalists are some of the bitchiest and whiniest users there are, these forums are a good example. Some of us like the "walled garden", and the benefits it provides. It's all personal preference. Trust me, just because we like Apple doesn't mean we're drooling at their feet, we can be damn critical.

Yea I never deal with photos, my iPad makes viewing photos awesome but I just don't have any, I bet some people do though.

Anyone got an pessimistic realistic and optimistic guess for the prices in MobileMe?

Mobile me is worth the price when using it fully, but it should get more regular refreshments.

maybe they can make an iAd supported version for the greedy ones, especially when they add social features

Are Apple going to censor your photo's you upload and remove any it deems inappropriate, or would your photo's be private do you think?

Yes - and the new camera application will also have a filter to block inappropriate pictures. If you try to take a picture of someone showing too much skin, you won't be the shutter button will be disabled and after five tries of taking such pictures, the local law enforcement unit will get informed.

I agree with everyone who says MobileMe must be free, at the very least for owners of Macs and iOS devices.

To all the current users who say we should be happy to pay a premium price tag for this service, have you not heard of 'value adding'? We already pay a premium price for Mac hardware, and many of us are happy to do that because we believe the overall value proposition is better than that of the competitors products. Apple is not perfect, but it does take a great deal of care with a whole lot of little things that make for a more enjoyable user experience (IMO) and that adds up to one happy user who will gladly part with his money when he needs a new computer.

MobileMe will only ever be a niche service for a small percentage of users while Apple continues to charge such a hefty fee for it. I used it for a year and felt like I'd wasted my money. From what I hear, many of you are in that same boat. So in many ways, it's working to lower our opinion of the Apple brand, rather than add value to it. How does that benefit Apple in the long run? They work tirelessly to maintain a service that connects very few people, and that leaves a bad taste in the mouth of many. Does that make good business sense?

If Apple had the infrastructure to support the millions of Mac and iOS users (and perhaps they're working on it!) MobileMe could become huge. A free MobileMe would give us the feeling that Apple is giving something back to us out of those massive quarterly profits we've all been reading about — great for Apple's brand. Not only that, but then they have the potential to take social networking to a level that just ain't gonna happen on Ping alone.

I think it will happen one day. And on that day there will be much rejoicing (and some complaining too from paid subscribers to MobileMe who feel gypped.)

Yikes!

That can be a little dangerous if your not careful with that feature. Best not to forget the pictures you take will be distributed automatically like that.

I can see all sorts of arguments breaking out. "Who is this you took a picture of? And I thought you were working..." LOL

On another note, I wonder if Apple will try to tie this into Ping. "At the concert? Share photos"

And so if I'm am worried about my personal data held by a company, I should be most concerned by one that is the most "secretive"?

Oh and on behalf of Apple, I'd like to apologize if they upset you.

Fix the Calendar / iCal bug that has created 173,294 events in my MobileMe account. Hundreds and Hundreds of the exact same event in the same day.... hundreds of times !!! I just use the local calendar on my iPhone with all the others turned off....
The rest of MobileMe works just fine...

PS... anyone have ideas or fixes for the Calendar / iCal insanity?? Thanks

This is what I'm thinking. Who really cares about all this extreme social network "I have to be constantly updated to what my 'friends' do" stuff?

Sometimes I wonder how this society has made it this far.

You might not use such things, but the popularity of facebook, twitter, foursquare shows that tons of other folks do. So it is no shock that Apple is trying to get into those games

Seems like Apple's put in a lot of work for something that you'll only use once or twice... I really hope the data center wasn't built solely for features like this.

Nope. The center is more likely to spread out the load for all features and all Apple systems. Reduce crashes etc

MobileMe is not likely to go free. However given how they cut the price whe you buy practically anything I would say a drop in price is possible and should happen.

Let me guess, Wifi only?

Do people really deal with photos on an iPhone/iPod/iPad as much as Stevey thinks that do? Just curious.

I'm going to say, "Yes." I've got kids, and I love taking quick pictures or videos of them with my Android phone. From there I upload them to Dropbox so that I don't have to plug my phone in. Having them AUTOMAGICALLY upload with a MobileMe feature would be great, and it would begin Steve's conquest against wires now that he's pretty much eliminated the button, too.

Eric Schmidt must be green with envy

Apple will let you track your friends. Google would let you track your friends while they track everyone. Why? So they can send you location-based AdMob ads. Period.

I'm puzzled why people think MobileMe should be or will be free. Apple charges for it now. Why would they make it better and lower (in fact, eliminate) the price? It's a service, it costs them money to run, and like all of their other products it's worth the price for some of their Mac and iOS users. I hope they add new capabilities without raising the price but I don't think Apple is feeling competitive heat that will make them start giving away these services. Yeah, maybe "find my phone", but not the data storage and management services.
