Apple Working on Six Mini-LED Products Including New 14.1-Inch MacBook Pro and Refreshed iMac Pro

Perhaps I'm out of the loop, but just what is the point of continuing the Touch Bar -- and if it is so important, so necessary to the "Apple experience," so popular, so easy to use, then why isn't it available on any of Apple's stand-alone keyboards? Why is it only on the laptops?

Some ideas (but I have no idea if they're true):
-Maybe Touch Bar requires a T2 chip? If so, not all current Macs (*cough* iMac *cough), plus older Macs, don't have T2
-Too much power?
-Needs too much bandwidth over Bluetooth (unlikely)
-Too much latency over Bluetooth?

Like I said, no clue; I'm just spitballing ideas here.

All iPads are getting mini LED except for the 11” iPad Pro and iPad Air? But why?
The cynical reply would be those two are the more popular products than the rest. Letting the others have mini LED first is an attempt to raise the appeal of the less popular products.

The touch bar ******* sucks.
Nah, it has its uses. It certainly can be annoying at times, random accidental touches when I hold my fingers near the number keys during gaming, but other than that, I use it fairly often in various apps, and all the time for brightness and volume control with one hand.

YES!!!

After pure wishful thinking and not-leak-supported dreams for a 14 inch MacBook Pro. YES!!!

And better yet, it comes from
lord Kuo.

I’ve been waiting for THE macbook pro for 7 years (yeah, as I dont NEED it) and that’s gonna be it! Don’t care if its holidays 2021.

That thing is going to sell

Yep i've been waiting for this!!!!! Going to get the 2TB SSD one :) saving saving saving!!!

Interesting that the iMac Pro is said to be getting a 27" Mini-LED display, but no mention of the iMac 5K also getting one. Seems like Apple would want to use the same panel...
Or maybe they want to have the "Pro" devices have it first?

So is the 11” iPad Pro getting discontinued or something? Why wouldn’t it get mini LED too?

I think part of the problem is you now have 3 iPads within the screen size of 1 diagonal inch- a 10.2, 10.5 and 11. It's getting too crowded in that space.

And you already have the mini in the smaller realm and 12.9 bigger.

But I have no idea what the split in sales between the 11 and 12.9 are to have an educated guess if the 11 sells enough to keep

If they launch a 6-core, I'm definitely begging my boss for one. Might have to pass this (newly slow as of reading this article 😜) 2018 iMac onto a coworker.

A Macbook with a new display seems like a good candidate for the ARM transition. I hope they'll release an update version of the 13'' with the new keyboard in the meantime.

A MacBook may be a good candidate for starting the Arm transition, but not the MacBook Pro as mentioned in the article. Arm is more likely to start with the MacBook Air, or a return of the MacBook. Pro models are likely to be the last as they are more commonly used with critical software that may not be updated as quickly.

I think one thing is for certain for those who are requesting it, OLED for the iPad is not Apples vision moving forward. I think mini LED offers far more tangible benefits in terms of a wider color gamut/battery conservation/efficiency over OLED. But I suspect we won’t see any advancements with displays until the latter part of 2021 at the earliest, but nonetheless, it’s coming.

You are thinking of microLED, that is supposedly going to be better over OLED.

MiniLED is just an improvement to the backlighting inside the regular LCD displays.

I’d be disappointed if they didn’t also offer an 11” iPad Pro with this display technology. I don’t want to have to have a larger iPad for a better display.

Micro LED sounds promising but how's the pixel density compared to OLED? JBD demonstrated amazing pixel density but limited to mono or bi-colors (red and green).

Sony's Crystal Micro LED has rather large gaps in-between.

On the other hand, Mini LED uses local dimming zones so it's more like QLED and not OLED (forward video to 1:25).

Sounds like this will be an expensive year! Super excited about a 14.1" MBP, as well as the smaller 5.4" iPhone. Also, my iPad needs an upgrade...

Looking forward to the redesigned 13” MacBook Pro.

Surprised the Apple Watch isn’t listed as getting the Mini-LED treatment.
Because it has OLED. MiniLED is not the same as MicroLED. MiniLED is just a backlight change to LCD where you can have multiple zones similar to what LCD TV's do today allowing better blacks.

I really disagree. Apart from gimmicky nonsense I haven't found a single useful case that would justify the crappy bar. I'll investigate in FCPX but from what I've tested so far in there it was just that. Gimmick.

And I miss those F keys. Super useful and far superior to the bar. Just simple volume up/down is difficult. With physical F keys it was so simple and so fast/intuitive.

So no, TB was a huge misstep for Apple in my opinion. Just like the stupid keyboard design.

It's perfect for creatives like myself who use Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X. It's for the pro MacBooks, Maybe in time it will come to other stand alone keyboards.

Don't knock it. The touch bar is blo*dy awesome! It also makes Macs with F keys look very dated in comparison!
