Apple Working on Wireless Earbuds With Custom Bluetooth Chip for Longer Battery Life

Haha ... don't you think that once Apple focuses on audio exclusively as they seem to be with this next iPhone, that they will finally absorb Beats and restructure the division to fall under direct Apple supervision? I mean they've slowly folded Beats under their brand, so the hardware would be the last of the company they would absorb and "improve"?

So there will be Apple Beats, Apple Pods, Apple Buds, etc.?
Personally, I think as long as Beats continue to sell like they do Apple will just leave it alone and let it do what it does. Right now, Beats is simply a license to print money. Beats owns it's market in marketshare, revenue, and profit. Apple has no reason to do anything to Beats. 'Cept count the money from it.

As far as BT headphones/buds is concerned, they can keep 'em. They suck, imo. Until they can match wired sound, they're useless to me. Others might like 'em and good for them if they do. We all have our preferences. Mine is wired.

Anything is better than a 3.5 jack.
Get rid of those damn things already. The sooner we get away from wired old technology the sooner improvements will come.
The past belongs in the past.
Wired technology will coexist with wireless forever. They are fundamentally different yet either can be the perfect complement of the other. No need to throw wire to trash can.

Sounds wonderful, but I doubt it.

I’ve been watching Bragi since their Kickstarter, but their price, bugs, and Apple’s rumored earpods have kept me from purchasing. If Apple’s are less than $200, I’m buying.

IF ONLY APPLE WOULD RELEASE THEM.
$200 would be a huge investment for me as a headphone.
[doublepost=1470365897][/doublepost]I will go wire regardless, even though I am bothered with tangled/twisted wires and broken wires for over 10 years already.

I don't want to recharge another pair of battery. Only when budget wireless headphone can last at LEAST a week without charging would I consider buying one.

It has to be wireless earbuds bundled with the phone if they are getting rid of the jack. The point of getting rid of the jack is to say you don't need it anymore. And yes the sound through bluetooth is good enough. I have $25 cans that sound perfectly fine. They sound much better than any in ear or pod that I've owned. But then again they are much larger. Since the size of the speaker is main stumbling point. Much easier to make a good sounding larger speaker than a small one. But apple will ship a pod or in ear thing closer in size to what they currently ship. So sound may suffer a bit. But only a bit. It isn't like the current pods are great shakes.

As for battery life, bluetooth already lasts a long time. If Apple can put the battery life of the earphones on my phone as a notification, like they do with the Apple Watch, then battery life will be a none issue. Just check the phone and see how much juice you have left. If you don't have enough, find a lightning cable, charge the earphones for 30 minutes and you should be good to go for the next day or two. The battery in these things is tiny. Heck it might only take ten minutes to recharge them a substantial amount.

I was just listening to my Jabra Move BT headphones today at work when they suddenly disconnected from my Mac. I turned them on and off, turned Bluetooth on the Mac on and off, etc. Nothing worked except restarting my Mac. This happens at least once a week. I have frequent problems with my UE Mini Boom speaker, too.

Yay for Bluetooth! /s

I just hope apple redesigns these wireless earbuds. Apples current earbuds do NOT stay in my ears. They constantly fall out...especially when I'm riding my bike. At least they're wired tho...so I won't lose em on the street. I'm hoping Apple's wireless earbuds have a wraparound feature to hold them to your ear. Cause if not, and they fall out while riding my bike, I could lose them for good.

Why is MR advertising $300 Bragi Dash earphones?! They are terrible and the sound is atrocious compared to $30 earbuds.

Same here. I've been very tempted to by the Bragi Dash for months, now, but have been holding of for the same reasons.

However, I'll only buy the Apple ones if they offer the same functionality, namely being waterproof (I want to use them for swimming) and hence have internal storage.

And here's to hoping they look similar...I actually do love the look of the Dash.

But we know Schiller is obsessed with the upsell so there will be something better than what's in the box to get people to spend $$ on accessories.

Apple believes in green. It believes so much that it will no longer produce wired headphones but will produce wireless ones that will require toxic batteries that will not last long and end up sending many more headphones to an early grave...with toxic batteries. I have earbuds I still use from 2003 and Sony headphones from 1997. But no, Bluetooth. #Green.

Don't know what to say except 'told you so'.
(^ for those who didn't believe me in previous threads)

Apple will be pushing wireless over wired lightning due to the fact it's a universal standard and wireless. These headphones will likely be more convenient than other wireless options. They won't be bundled with the iPhone 7, which will likely come with standard EarPods and an adapter. This is due to the cost so they'll be sold separately.

Having said that, I really hope they do come in the box. It'll show that Apple cares about their customers that are giving up a port to buy their phone. It's also a more premium offering than other smartphones which all come with wired headphones.

This is why most cellphones come with a jack so you can use them with the POTS land line that everyone still has.

I think the only way Apple includes BT earbuds for free is if they are of marginal quality. Apple giving something that is high quality away for free is not the Apple I know lol.

I don't want "NO" battery near my brain! I'll stick to wired.

As long as bluetooth is an option and there is some wired alternative, this is fine. Keeping a radio transmitter next to your head, no matter how tiny, just seems like a bad idea long term.

(And I use wired ear pieces in order not to have the phone right next to my head either!)

I'm just gonna leave this here.

I think Apple is trying to add the differentiator by including a product that will make people realize that bluetooth/usb connectivity (how cars include these sold within the past 4-5 years) is the present and 3.5mm will only be needed with computers. The higher quality output through lightning will be able to provide power to wired lighting-cable headphones. Big features need to be perfected and less like a gimmick as some Samsung products have. The Iris Scanner should be able to work in the daylight. If they get this lower power right, it's moving to more reason to move to wireless for the masses.

Do you understand what the impact actually is? We are not advancing here.

You already have the option to use BT or wired from lighting port.

You are loosing the convienice of a "legacy" adapter.

How will these work with video? Whenever I watch video using BT headphones the audio and video are never in sync.

side effect of BT, mild delay. Apple can't fix that. It can be a very small delay but it can be noticeable.

can aggravate loose timing in the video as well. You can get the BT delay on top of almost there..but not 100% audio track to video sync. Why I try to keep it simple on my video work. Me and accurate syncing of separate audio to video its like bad old school kung fu movie dubbing really.
