There is no conspiracy people... it's always the same people spouting idiotic "theories".

I also used the betas since the second release. There were some versions that initially drained the battery exactly how people are describing. My iP4 would also get very warm and standby usage was terrible. I thought the battery drain could have been coming from Spot Light search. Turning it off seemed to alleviate the battery drain. I turned it back on anyway so it could finish and after a day of horrible battery life the problem went away.

A fix will come people. You can put down your pitchforks.

There must be some very strange variables here.

I have a 64GB 4s, I use the living snot out of the phone, all my phone lines are forwarded to the 4s. My BlueTooth is on, but off on the headset (While I'm at home) Phone, Wifi is on and I run on Wifi while I'm at home, Mail and Message apps running, and ICloud is on. on a normal day of use, my 4s has about 40% at bedtime, that is tons better than my Droid Incredible, that sometimes I had to charge by noon!!

Maybe some of you are running too many apps or there is something different. It's hard to tell without testing side by side.

So far, I'm very pleased with my 4s battery usage compared to my previous Droid Incredible.

Agree with this. Police apps in the background. Turn off unnecessary location services. Reset the network settings if you restored an old backup. Enough people have determined there is an exchange issue so if you use it, its going to be a problem.

Ideally, a fix should not be necessary. Apple needs to retune its testing process and get more average Joe's involved somehow.

Exchange as in microsoft exchange? I have my college email set up on my iPhone 4 and that's what it uses

Another reason to stick with ATT. Verizon doesn't give you this option, and I don't think Sprint does either.

In my case, Verizon gives me one option that AT&T hasn't been able to offer for the last 4-1/2 years..... SERVICE!! When I moved to this neighborhood in early 07 I had to give up my AT&T Service due to ABSOLUTELY NO SERVICE!! Zero Bars, Nada!! They promised more towers, in 07, still waiting!! I switched and I get perfect service with Verizon.

I'm also having the issue on my iPhone 4. After sitting on my desk at work for a couple of hours, the phone is really warm and the battery has drained considerably (30%). Before iOS 5, I would *easily* get through the day on 1 charge. Now, I need to charge the phone by late afternoon, otherwise my phone will be dead by 5 or 6 PM..

David

I have a feeling that there must be some App, process or something running in the Background. BTW, do you turn off your APP's?? I had this issue with my IPod 3rd Gen, but then I discovered that I had over 40 Apps running. When I turned them off, the problem was over!! If I'm not using the APP, it is turned off!!

Update on mine:

Took off charger at 6:45 this morning. As of time of writing (11:15) I have 93% remaining. I have 5 push email accounts (4 gmail and 1 iCloud), plus documents, reminders, calendars, etc. all being pushed. Wifi is turned off when I leave the house. All location services are turned on with the exception of the following system services: Traffic, Time Zone, and Location based iAds. Bluetooth is off as well.

During this time, I have not had any phone calls. I have had 30 or so emails delivered, plus Facebook notifications. I have not played any music, but have checked Facebook and accessed a few webpages.

No problem here...

My girlfriend and I are both getting much improved battery life on the 4S compared to what we were getting on the 4....

I don't have iCloud or sync to anything. I run virtually no apps. My battery life is pathetic. Like 2 to 3 times worse than my old G3. It's wrong for Apple to suggest that I investigate the cause. Amazing how they crow about speed increases but hide this crap.
They had long enough to test these things.
I'm returning my phone today

Hi,

I'm also having a bit of trouble with my battery life on my 3GS. I remember that I encountered a similar issue with an older version of iOS. Can't remember the version but it was so bad that I lost 100% in 11 hours. Most of that overnight!

After an upgrade it went back to normal. I've been trying most of the suggestions here but nothing will work. Without me doing a lot the battery drains very quickly indeed. 40% in 5 hours of very light use. Bit frustrated. As I restored from a former backup I do have exactly the same applications installed and I suspect it must be something in iOS5 that's responsible for the drain.

I do hope that Apple find a quick solution as I can't charge my iPhone everywhere I go. Strangely my iPad 1 is having no issues whatsoever. Was expecting it to be bad in battery life as well but nothing. Let's hope Apple find some bugs and iron them out.

Experiencing exactly the same problems. battery draining within just a few hours. After I switched off iCloud (MobileMe/iCloud/me.com being my main email address, this is a problem!), battery life is fine. Thinking it's very probable it has to do with corrupted contacts. Have several thousands of contacts, mainly due to MobileMe having duplicated them over and over again. Would be very happy to have apple install monitoring software, if this helps, as I would like this problem to be solved asap. Aside, my iPad 2 64gb 3G has massive issues with apps crashing ever since I upgraded to iOS 5. Safari does not work at all anymore, using dolphin hd for now as a substitute. Battery life also miserable when iCloud is turned on

Then why did you buy the 4s??

may I recommend a "NORMAL" Cell or get an Android, you might enjoy the nice Battery life there ;)

Something similar to this worked for me too. I suspect that IOS5 could not deal with some corrupt data in the address book file that I had on my Mac. Therefore, I exported my address book data to Vcards and erased the old contact data on all devises and iCloud. I then imported the Vcards back into the address book and then synced back with address book. Problems solved, both with address book syncing and battery drain. Works like a charm now.

Me too. When I updated by iPhone4 with iOS5 the battery life took a massive dive. Two things resolved my battery drain and I believe they must be bugs in iOS5 or iTunes.

I deleted my two email accounts, gmail and iCloud. Rebooted and then re-added them one by one.

I also turned off wifi syncing because I noticed that even with my phone not plugged into power I was seeing error messages on my mac concerned with connecting to the iPhone. This seemed odd as the phone wasn't plugged in and I was just walking around the house.

Having made these two changes my battery is back to normal. I did initially restore my phone from a backup and not do a clean restore.

Well, you purchased a top of the line Smart Phone with Various capabilities that YOU ARE NOT USING!!! Why buy it?? I never buy a tool that I'm not going to use.

What business is it of yours what I use my phone for? That is not what this thread is about. It's about a fault with your beloved Apple's product not my use or non use of it.
So by your argument if i don't use all of it's facilities I am not qualified to own it

Definitely ghosts in the system. Deleted iCloud and turned on plane mode. During the flight I noticed the location services arrow in the status bar. You know, just right if the airplane icon. Hmm. I tried to get to system setup, but the whole phone was locked. I couldn't even turn it off normal. I did the home key/power key combo to shut it down. Now I've re-enabled everything and I'm watching my battery fade.

When I get home, I'm setting up a genius appt.

correct.

why make something out of this that's not.

if it really is an issue, it will get solved somehow.

for one, i don't see any battery issues with my 4s.

Might be a dumb question but...why can't there be a "shut all down" button that disables everything other than the phone itself? Not that this is the total answer but just a thought.

No, not that at all.

But, you are bitching about it, but you are returning it.

If you are returning it, why are you here complaining about it??

I'm not at an Android Forum bitching about how horrid my Battery life was, and it was terrible.

You are the one continuing the Bitchfest.

Let it go, return the phone you don't like and don't use the features on it and get the one you like and use the features to the fullest, that is ALL I'm saying.

Standby time is poor, but the second I do anything like browse the web or iMessage the battery drops 8% in 15-20 mins.

Siri & Battery drain

I have the same issue, 10% or there about per hour lost on standby. The fact I live on the edge of 3G availability means im dropping calls like nothing I have had ever. The old 3Gs was fine as I could turn off the 3G. Thanks Apple for ruining a good phone.

Why do we need to turn the apps off to conserve battery? Who does real life testing of the battery? No one I guess, as Apple are paranoid their phone will be stolen, lost or left in a bar. So we are the guinea pigs? Great!

I have turned off Siri and this seems to have stopped the battery drain. only my phone but see what it does to yours?

Great hype, Great idea, great looks! But it doesn't work very well does it.

12 hour batt.life!

My 4s lasts about 16 hours - with push e-mail, siri, location DISABLED!
I've have tried to reinstall the software, no change....

I'm very disappointed

My battery life has sucked no matter what I'd tried. Just hoping firmware updates fix it before my battery is wrecked for good
