At 999$ (a play on .999 fine?) for the gold watch, I would expect that the Apple Care guy will come to you hearing a new replacement watch.

If it's like their other plans, accidental damage does not include cosmetic damage (dents, scratches, etc..). The damage has to hinder the usage of the device to qualify. You'd have to mess the watch up pretty bad to make it unusable I would think.

If you take high end jewelry into a store for repair, they'll polish it for you, too. And repair can include cosmetic damage - this is jewelry after all! And generally they can get all of the scratches out. If I bought a $17,000 watch, I'd expect it to come back polished from Apple, too.

Really? You can find $3 somewhere? Still makes no sence.

You lose all of the protections that credit cards offer if you don't put the full purchase price if the item on the card.

But this makes one wonder - how many people will actually buy one? Only the frivolous, it appears. Or perhaps those who believe it will be a total flop, buying it for an investment. But I've heard of no limits on the production quantities, and I suspect Apple's already manufactured too many of them to make them rare.

The thing about nice watches is that you can pass them down, generations. A father can pass his Apple Watch Edition to his son who can then pass it down to his son....down through the generations. 200 years from now, great, great grandsons could own the Apple Edition watches purchased, this year.

$999 for AppleCare+ Never thought I'd ever see that. But it's in line with how much the Edition costs. If you can afford $10,000 to $17,000 then chances are you can afford $11,000 to $18,000.

Completely agree. If you are spending that much money on a watch edition (piece of wearable tech), then the extra $999 is nothing. If that is the deal breaker then you shouldn't be getting this watch.

If I pay over $10k for an Apple Watch PLUS $999 for Apple Care, you better believe that I expect to be able to drop my Gold Apple Watch in a septic tank and run it over with a snowblower and THEN expect them to replace it for FREE personally in my house by Tim Cook and Jony Ive.

Well, he can own a dead piece of technology.

Either keep it original and dead, or some 3rd party company will perhaps by then be able to fit a new totally different inside to it.

The battery will be dead, but even if that was changed, there will be no iphone around that it will sync to.
Even if you kept an iPhone to go along with it. The manner of cell system signals being broadcast by then will have changed, so your iPhone won't be able to link up to anything.
Still. I guess as an item to just sit in a glass box as an ornament it will be fine.

Shame, unlike ancient vintage clocks you buy now that still work, none of this will by then.

Sure, just like every Bentley owner gets Michael Winkler's cell phone number.

Prices for AppleCare

The prices of AppleCare for the various models should be the pricing for the Apple watch. Time to tell Tim Cook that his prices are out of line. How many stupid people are going to buy an over priced product that you have to make a reservation in order to try it on?

Sorry if this has been asked already, I'm short on time.

Does this cover accidental damage? Deductible?

Thanks!

edition pricing ..... Damn!

Does that change your decision on buying it? Or are you just skipping out on the AppleCare+?

Are the components inside the case not identical?

Perhaps the Applecare for the Edition is also insurance against loss? If I purchase an iPhone through Verizon I have the option of adding replacement insurance for loss or theft - that could be the difference in pricing here.

Or... it is an all-inclusive fee -- no charges for accidental damage replacements. Pay the $999 and shatter your face as much as you please.

perhaps, but AppleCare+ doesn't covert loss or theft of device (that I'm aware of), only accidental damage. Verizon's (and other carrier's) insurance programs are different than AppleCare+

AppleCare+ doesn't cover loss or theft of device for "commoners'" devices, but I just want to think there is something extra (besides the duration) for the price of Edition coverage.

The pricing for the Sport and Watch are what I expected. AppleCare may be needed more than their other products given how much contact it's going to having against different surfaces while its on your wrist. Hopefully the sapphire and steel will hold up against dings and scratches.

Two years only ? I was expecting at least 3

I thought it was going to be free for them. It is the least apple can do!

Exactly. How could you dare to ask for $999 to someone that spent $10,000 for a smartwatch ???

I'm thinking more accidental water damage. You know getting all hot and bothered and jump in the shower with the person of your choice and forget you have your gazillion $$ watch on.

Just set an alert to remind you to remove your iWatch if it detects that you have become "Hot and Bothered".

They need fewer, but better developers - and management that lets them work on a reasonable schedule, without too much pressure from sales or marketing. The very top developers are dramatically more productive, and will create fewer bugs. They're worth their cost, while an average developer is almost as much of a burden as a boon.

Perhaps the environment at Apple isn't exciting enough for the top developers anymore?

considering that many were poached to other companies, or willingly left, I would say either management is too tough, hours are too long, or they don't have much freedom to do what they want with the app - or a combination of all.

Do you really think the money earned from selling gold Edition watches will make Apple hire more developers and invest more into R&D?

I think they would have done that already with their $150+ billion in the bank ;)

You do realize 150B is not in the US right?? Apple is actually taking loans out in the US to borrow money to do stuff. In fact, you could say Apple is somewhat struggling financially in the US.

Let's not get carried away. Apple is certainly not struggling in the US. It is a simple matter that borrowing money is less costly than the tax implications of accessing their cash/assets.

It is somewhat similar to a person with hundreds of thousands of dollars in a 401k still taking out a loan to get a new car. The person has the assets, it is just better served by "buying cheaper money" via a loan.

Interestingly I just looked at my local Apple stores web page and the planned events and workshops for the next three weeks. The only day that they have no workshops is on the 10th so I am guessing that most of the store will be dedicated to try on appointments and pre-orders for that day

Well as I once told a friend who balked at how much the car insurance on a lotus esprit was, "if you can afford the car, you can afford the insurance. And if you can't, you shouldn't be buying it."

And wow - I just used a car metaphor which I *THINK* actually works in this case? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
