My bet is on an updated Apple TV and here’s why;

Apple announced we would be able to AirPlay videos that are recorded on iPhone 12 series in Dolby Vision format. There have been multiple tvOS releases since the event yet Apple TV 4K still does not play any videos in Dolby Vision neither via AirPlay nor through “Photos” app on the Apple TV.

My guess is that the Apple TV 4K is unable to support in Dolby Vision profile 8.4 (iPhone 12 Dolby Vision format) hardware wise so definitely Apple must be planning to release an updated unit to support that and fill the requirement. Add Fitness+ to that, there is your new release..

This will be my second Apple TV if this is the case... my first was the original... haven't had one since.

Why dilute the mini announcement with a HomePod update. The homepod update will be a press release for sure. U1 chip first and maybe a new processor in 2 years. It doesn’t use the full features of its current processor. Why spend extra money when you don’t need to?
Now that the minis are selling well the HomePod could use the u1 and not delute the mini.
Atmos on the HomePod would be wasted money if they were to discontinue it.
They didn’t want to confuse people with the update to HomePod at the time of HomePod mini release. Needed to keep it simple for the stereo pairing etc. I think the HomePod is selling better because of the HomePod mini. I quiet release of the HomePod with U1 then largely goes unnoticed until a software update that allows 4 speaker home theatre setups or whatever the u1 unlocks.

Doesn't Apple have to offer Intel’s latest for the MBP 16” ? Just from the marketing and value proposition perspectives, the new MBP 13” is sort of like getting caught masturbating in public. The glowing M1 reviews are everywhere. How can they justify charging twice the price on the now seemingly clunky, nearly overmatched Pro 16”? Whatever the merits of the dedicated GPU, the fact that a 13” vs. 16“ purchase debate based on power is a first, and it’s just embarrassing. It’s bad enough we can’t march our shiny new 16” machines into offices and coffee shops. But ever since The Announcement, we have to disguise them during zoom calls. Apple can't allow the 13” and, gasp, the Air - the Air!, to upstage its flagship portable for too long. Just a theory...

Makes sense, but 10th gen Intel isn't much faster or cooler. From that perspective AS MBP 16 is much better solution. Just base model without dGPU.

AirTags and you will be able to attach them to your gym equipment for tracking. Goes perfectly in line with Apple Fitness+ release

All this talk of Airtags... yet I'd like to be able to find my AirPods. I still have to go searching for them... Find My is always out of date... and playing a sound only works once I open my AirPods lid and put the AirPods in my ears... and than... well... I should hear the sound I don't need anymore.

So... no to AirTags... UNLESS you fix this problem... Please... Pretty please...
Lol.

Anyone else, feel the same?

I'm thinking it's either higher-end spec M1 Mac minis to finally complete the Mac mini's transition to Apple Silicon (complete with the ports and RAM options we've been wanting) or its the rumored 2020 16" MacBook Pro with Intel still inside. Either way, I'm thinking VERY soft launch.
I don't have a problem with wanting higher specs or whatnot, but, "finally complete the mini's transition to Apple Silicon"? Really? They just came out a few weeks ago! ;)

AppleTV is well overdue an update. Some games need a minimum of an A12 processor!

There's a reason they sell those firesticks so cheap. There is so much advertising and content that needs to be purchased prominently displayed on them it makes the experience much less appealing (at least to me). The Apple TV user interface is just so much better. The FireTV also has a paltry amount of RAM so that if you have a lot of apps it constantly has to archive and reload them. The form factor on the other hand is great for travel. Take a firestick with me whent i visit my parents or stay in a hotel. If Apple made a AppleTV stick I would buy one in heartbeat!

yes the interface of the apple TV is much better, but when getting one for your third tv, or to take on the road even for this apple addict it becomes hard to justify $179-199 when i can ultimately get the exact same picture and sound quality for my tv and movies (which ultimately is the majority of what you use this for) using the exact same services including appleTV+ for $27.99

You're totally right, my use of the word "finally" was off. I think my brain was looking for a word that emphasized the rest of the sentence with enthusiasm.

That all being said, they really ought to have released this new mini in such a way that no one would find themselves still needing to purchase the old one (much as they did with the MacBook Air and 2-port 13" MacBook Pro)

I lean towards it being medium/small device (not a computer, not a tile) that enhances AppleOne features:
- A gaming controller/remote that may also be a wearable with some Fitness+ tie-in
- A new Apple TV with built-in camera for motion input, AI workout coaching from Fitness+, FaceTime calls, group video while gaming, etc

Cool, cool, sounds good, but just to clarify and not to disagree, a camera (which it is insane that one has never been available for the Apple TV - absolutely insane) won't be "built-in" to the unit unless Apple has completely lost their collective(ist) minds.

Most people would want a camera in a very different location (above the TV, below the TV, in a self-made "notch" that they dug out of the middle of their TV with a power drill🤷‍♂️) than they'd want their Apple TV box (stashed away out of sight).

Yes good point. I was thinking the camera could be detached but optionally docked and pivotable. I think a lot of people do have the AppleTV under their television where you can point the remote at it and see the white dot light up.

This about as high-fidelity as I'll bother to go with this idea, lol.
