Eff all that! I'm ****ing right handed and I still hold the phone in my left ****ing hand!

Apple's stance on this in that we should all just 'hold the phone different' and is basically implying that
you_re_doing-it-wrong_.jpg

I'm losing quite a bit of respect for Apple because they think this is all just going to go away. Ha!

the thing is people can always sue but the "payout" to the person sewing apple wont be great enuph to make apple want to change, due to apple being a big company and the fact that the point is strong on both sides depending on how u look at it, the winner of/a the case will be different every time. also if they are not told of the reception issues and then find out afterward they have to buy a case to make the phone work (as advertised some could argue). even if they didn't know and found out due to apple making sure the customer kew, they are telling you that you have to buy a case (witch is separate)to make the phone work (again some could argue as advertised). but if a really cheap case came with the phone and eliminated the problem then they would be free from being sewed and we would just be mad.

i think i put forth a good "scenario" i could care less if im right but just contributing!:D

Very very disappointing. Its just disgraceful actually.

I have lost a great deal of confidence in the company and I think many other have as well.

No matter how many of these things they sell, this issue is not going to go away.

At some point some one will take them to court, and some good samaritan whistle blower type who either worked on the development of the phone or who has some internal document, will come forward and then Apple will be exposed for this and then forced to do something.

Prolonging this will only in the end probably end u costing them more money.

Very foolish corporate behavior.

The CEO should be ashamed of himself for allowing this to happen.

Every one here should send him an email letting them know first hand how they feel!

We'll see how many the little turd responds to!

Nice adult comment there! Total over reaction.

People would still complain yes but not to this degree. Apple has a big design flaw that has sat in all the iPhone and they still have not fix it. If anything they made it worse because people are shorting out the antenna now. At least before all you did was block it. instead you short it out and prevent it from working.
Top half would of been a MUCH MUCH better location for it.

Can't put it next to your brains anymore, so says the FCC

Really, just get a case. I did and have no issues. Apple bumpers. My friend... no case... issues.

This is one thing I don't understand.

In all the previous iPhones I think 1 out of 500 people did not have cases on their phone. Now with the iPhone 4 99% of the people are not using a case.

Are people just trying to make their own lives difficult for no reason?

I love how the people that can't reproduce this issue act as though this is insignificant and that we're all just big whiners.

- I had a 3G and I never dropped calls at my house (Eugene, Or). I drop calls constantly now.

- My 3G browsing speed is horrendous, I feel like I'm back on Edge with the original iphone.

- I have never had a case on any of my 3 iphones, and I consider the 'just put a case on it' solution to be a huge deal. What's the point of having a slick looking phone if you have to cover it up? Furthermore, some people continue to have issues with a case, and because of how bad the signal issue is for me, I'm pretty sure the same will happen even with a case.

- I'm also starting to feel Apple was well aware of this long before the launch, and for them to put a $29 price tag on their bumper case, and to offer that as a solution is insulting.

- I think I'll be returning mine and picking up a 3GS :(. It's going to stink going to a less stellar display, but at least I'll be able to make calls and browse the web which are kinda important to me :)

I'd like to suggest something that no-one seems to have mentioned in any post in any of the threads on any of the forums about this subject.

Some people say it happens all the time.
Other people say it never happens.
Some even say in some locations they can make it happen, in others not.

May I make the suggestion (that as I say I've never seen brought up) that it may depend on how dry (or sweaty) the persons hand is.

If you have naturally very dry hands I'm thinking your skin will not be a very good conductor across this gap.

If you have naturally oily/sweaty hands then it will make a much better elecrtical bridge.

Have you got an iPad or iPhone?
If you have VERY dry hands/fingers you may find that sometimes the touch screen does not work that well.

On my iPad in the past when playing angry birds, my finger tips were so dry that I was having some problems. (I have very dry skin on my hands)

Seeing other peoples iPad screens it's obvious how oily/greasy/sweaty many other peoples hands are. my iPad screen after 1 month is no-were near as smeared as some screen shots I saw on the net from others after a few days use.

It's entirely possible (I think) that every single iPhone4 is exactly the same and all the differences people have been reporting have totally been down to their skin and how conductive (due to moisture) their hand is at the time.

The only way would be to have the same iPhone tested by a wide range of people with different skin types and see what happens.

I actually think the iPhone 4 has better reception over the 3GS.

I've received several successful calls in my office today with no issues what so ever. My office is notorious for having only 1 tiny bar of reception - no one has ever been able to call me in the office on my cell phone without the call dropping.

Today, no problem! All calls were great and audio was good both ways.

And all this could have been avoided by communicating with their customers in a professional manner.

Where is Apples statement on the issue, even Microsoft managed than with their issue on xbox 360

I never thought I would say this, but returning my iPhone 4 and waiting a few weeks/months is starting to sound appealing right now...

I can't believe people are really saying "If you would just hold the phone properly" or "Just move your hand a few centimeters and you'll have no problems". If I'm going to buy a $200 phone with at least a $30 a month data plan for two years, it damn well better work no matter how I hold it.

I haven't had this trouble with my iPhone. Then again, I left the store with a bumper on my phone from the get-go.

I'm sorry so many are having issues. The signal reception is at least as good as on my 3GS - and I believe actually better.

yep, same here. my phone has been stellar. love it. I got a bumper, who doesn't have some sort of case anyway. this is not an issue for me.

The FCC requires manufacturers to put the antenna at the bottom now, since putting it at the top puts it too close to your head. Don't blame Apple for complying with (stupid) regulations.

well then you can blame apple for the poor design making it to easy to short out. There is a reason why no one else uses a antenna that is directly exposed to where you can touch it. Most of it covered with some type of plastic. HTC put it in the battery cover. Apple could of putting it behind the glass back were you could not touch it.

I am right handed but use my left hand on the phone. So it's not just left handed people screwed over, a lot of right handed people talk on the left.

Exactly, I'm left handed and I hold my phone in my right hand. The left is used for the fine motor skill stuff... like pushin' buttons and tapping.

I think you're basing your assessment on a misconception of what the signal bars represent.

When you have a meter with 5 bars you probably think it's something like...

1: 20%
2: 40%
3: 60%
4: 80%
5: 100%

...but in the case of cellphones, it's not. It's more like

1: Unspeakably bad
2: Shockingly bad
3: Pretty damn bad
4: Very bad
5: Anywhere between bad and super excellent

If you have 5 bars and bridge the antennas with your finger, the signal might drop from super excellent to bad, but you'll still be seeing 5 bars. But if your 5 bars are on the lower end of the scale (=bad), it might drop from bad (5) to unspeakably bad (1) or non-existent (No Service). So it might just be that the signal happens to be super excellent in your home.

To be more precise.

1 Bar could mean around 0.000000000000001 Watt.
5 Bars means more like 0.000000000001 Watt
but you could have a signal up to:
0.00000001 Watts, or up to 10,000 times greater than the minimum to indicate 5 bars, when near a cell tower.

If this is true, and Apple is not going to fix the problem, then it is obvious Apple has jumped the shark.

We, blogs, and news media can all talk about this for a month, followed by lawsuits, and the end of the Apple halo will come.

I'll return mine and wait for the hardware revision that doesn't need a case (a glass phone with stainless steel edges shouldn't need a case - it is near indestructible.)

I bet BIG MONEY you don't return and neither do 75% of the people that are complaining. Go buy a case and be quiet. The fact that everyone is willing to shell out around $100 a month for a phone, but not willing to protect their investment with a case is ridiculous. I UNDERSTAND YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BUY A CASE, but why wouldn't you?

The iPhone 4 w/ a case is still way better looking than any other phone out there.

Go to Android all complainers! Open up the network for those of us that are enjoying our phones! Think this phone isn't great? Take a look at the reviews.

Why not just buy a case for your phone? It is very expensive, and without some sort of protection, one drop and you are going to regret investing $30 in a case.

well then you can blame apple for the poor design making it to easy to short out. There is a reason why no one else uses a antenna that is directly exposed to where you can touch it. Most of it covered with some type of plastic. HTC put it in the battery cover. Apple could of putting it behind the glass back were you could not touch it.

I'd like to suggest something that no-one seems to have mentioned in any post in any of the threads on any of the forums about this subject.
It's been suggested quite a few times but there are too many conflicting reports to draw any conclusions either way. There are those who claim to have tested multiple iPhones on multiple people and found that some of the people had the antenna issue with all of the phones, while others didn't have it with any of the phones. There have been other tests where different phones were tested by the same person (and the same sweaty or non-sweaty hands) and one phone had the issue, the other did not.

really?

Mine isn't having the issue, but that is just ri-damn-diculous. LEAST you can do is give people that over-priced bumper you're selling for $30, which probably cost you all of .50 to make. If true, not cool.
