AppleCare in general is not as good as in the past. Much longer wait times and rep are less knowledgeable, thus takes more time to solve your issue. Actually, in the stores too, I have noticed the customer service is not as good . . . less knowledgeable plus less patient. I don't blame these Apple employees as they are working throughout their shift with no down time, a negative side effect of Apple's success. So, the tech support of AppleCare+ is less useful as the anticipation of long wait times and less helpful reps, you'll avoid calling AppleCare.

Care to expand on that? You mean a refund from apple?

yes, just call apple and tell them you sold the device and they will refund you.

----------

If you buy an ipad 4 next march get a 50 percent refund on AC+ so for $5o you have fullprotection for the year most of us are going to own the 3.

they will give you more like 80% back after the first year, not 50%

Voted yes. There are enough worries in life, and for a measly 99 bucks it's one less thing. I don't know of any other companies doing something similar for their customers.

In 15 years, I have never dropped, lost or damaged any of my electronics and I've had plenty of laptops that I travel w and of course every smartphone and bb.

My theory is that IF I damage my iPad and have to pay $299, I've saved at least 2k of warranties in the past. If the warranty covered theft then I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

The only thing that makes me consider buying it for this iPad is bc other people always ask to borrow it or take a look and I hate saying no. So I'd be being the apple care for if someone else drops my iPad. I've had several ****** friends drop my stuff and never off to pay or replace. Obviously I'm not friends w them anymore lol.

I think it's worth it if you have kids who will handle it. My 2 1/2 year old already dropped it. There's a little scratch on it. I'll wait till she cracks the screen. I'm sure the iPad will have more boo boos. How low is the accidental protection with Amex? BTW, I have an amex but chose BestBuy b/c of their 18 months no interest.

To answer my question only 90 days of theft or damage protection.

Is Applecare+ worth it for the Ipad?

I have it for my Iphone 4s, and can totally justify it. My phone is much more prone to accidents, and drops because I carry it everywhere that I go. I do carry my ipad around a lot, but I just can't see myself accidentally cracking the screen or breaking something on it, like I can my Iphone.

What do you think? The 30 day mark is almost up, and I will be going to an Apple store on Friday anyway, so I need to make a decision.

Well, after my father set my iPad 2 on an unstable surface and fell 5 ft screen first and having to pay $400 to get it replaced by apple, getting apple care plus was a no brainer for me. I say get it, but it's all up to you if you need that money for something else.

Apples out of warranty replacement is only $299

Its not just for accidents.

If you are the type person who drops their phone often or have kids who use your device, I would say it is worth it.

BUT, I have been using the iPhone and iPads from day one and never had a problem with any of them so look how much money I saved NOT buying the additional warranty services.

Just saying . . . each need to make their own choice

I would think if you're going to be out and about with your iPad often then it could be worth your while. That or if you have really strong superhuman thumbs. :D

Not for a 64gb 3G iPad, that set me back over $400.
Unless Apple's website regarding out of warranty repairs is wrong then you probably got ripped off. Apple's website says "out of warranty repairs" for the iPad 3 are $299 and the iPad 2 is now $250. "Out of warranty" includes anything done (water damage, broken glass etc) that is not covered if you do not have the accidental damage coverage of Applecare+ as long as it is not returned in multiple pieces (broken in half).

My sister had a 64GB ATT iPad 2 replaced (she and her iPad fell down 2 flights of stairs, glass broke and case was severely damaged as was she with a broken arm) the week before the 3 came out and it was $299 (has since dropped to $250).

Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

iPad model Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
New iPad $299
iPad 2, iPad $249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if you arrange service online or by calling Apple Technical Support. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.

im the exact opposite. I have my phone in a good case and drop it all the time but dont worry because it seem a lot sturdier and with a good case is very difficult to break. WIth the ipad and that big screen, there is just way too much that can happen. it is awkward to hold and can easily slip from your or someone's hands. If its in a bag, it could be compressed easily.

for 99 bucks, its worth it to me to buy apple care plus. besides, i am pretty certain that right before my warranty is up, something will be happening to my ipad. $45 bucks for a replacement in 2 yrs is a good deal

Hmmmm....... I got it done at at the apple store and it was 2 different geniuses that gave me that price, the first I didn't have it done because it was expensive, but then when I was having trouble finding anyone to repair it, I went back and had it done. Both times i was told it was $400 because it was a higher end model. This was in January at the Tampa apple store.

Contact the store or contact Apple support and complain. Show them the link to their own website. Having your receipt would help. It's always been $299 to replace an out of warranty iPad. The iPhone has a fixed price as well.
