iMac Pro, coming September… probably.

Lack of ability to raise or lower the height of the monitor. IMO, an iMac is a poor choice. Of course, I'm looking at this through the eyes of someone who gets a sore back and neck when I can't adjust my screen exactly how I want it.

Does and iMac do VESA?
Yes!

I'm guessing most of the male designers at Apple are used to waking up in the morning with something thin and small in their hand when they hit the restroom.
Because it would look like an iPad on a stand and you can already have that today. It has to have it’s own identity and the chin is part of that. BMW will also not get rid of it's kidney grille.

They should've just put the computer inside the power brick, they already took the power supply out, might as well take the whole computer out.

What desktop comes with an external power supply?? This isn't a laptop or tablet -.-'
The computer in the brick would be a Mac Mini with an external monitor.

There must be a lot of anger involved for one to HATE a design based on an image an not even having seen it in person. What audience group do you belong to?
Unless the iMac smells really good, images and seeing it in person won’t make much difference. I was looking for a 32’ screen, space gray iMac with no chin. I’m the iMac Pro guy, if you didn’t guess the audience yet.

Why so thin? No need for a desktop to be so thin! This has Jony written all over it. Even the headphone port is in the wrong place for external speaker use. External speakers are for desktops, who cares about high end audio when it can't match dedicated speakers.

Well, I'll be damned. 27" would be better, but I take 24". I like the chin, sets the iMac on eye-level without needing a long neck. Also good to adjust the angel without having to touch the glass. I hope it's just regular LCD, because OLED gives me headaches. If I can get it with a big higher internal storage, I'm game. I hear M1 is great for video processing. The rest is just work, emails, and stuff. This is a perfect price point too. Exactly what I was hoping for. My 2013 iMac runs like a tractor when I encode videos. Let's hope this improves it. The colours though... LOL!

If I had the money I would get a top spec one. Probably orange or yellow.
I don't have the money so I won't get one. Orange or yellow.

They should have made the darker colors (blue, green) with a black bezel and the lighter ones with a white one. Pretty sure who prefers black or whote also prefers the other colors (light or dark). People have a much strong opinion about bezels and back color is secondary, in my opinion.

You can have a 27 inch WQHD USB-C monitor with charging and hub for 300-400$.

I hope your livelihood doesn't depend on your psychich abilities.
I have a couple of 25" 1440p (also WQHD) Ultrasharp U2520D Dells with USB-C - they are fine for me. however, you don't specify the model you use (you only go virtual shopping and mention what you 'can' get so we can't compare). The USB-C charging hub in the Dell would be no use for powering or charging an iMac though.

Apple are making sure they can cater for video/photographic work so they put more budget into their panels. That's their heritage and reputation and also a great marketing point that is always wasted on some people who vocally have a go at the perceived overkill of a 4.5K 24" panel that does 500 nits (commodity screens are commonly 300) and is on the DCI-P3 colour gamut (they've not gone into details on the new 24" tech page at time of writing).

Too many people come out and claim they can buy a 24" panel for $150 without comparing like for like.

The same people will be crying more at how much iPads - especially the 12.9" iPad Pro - cost.

Anyone who doesn't like the quality of panel that Apple choose to use for their iMacs are welcome to buy a Mac mini and add the monitor of their choice. Apple actually did all of them a favour by completely levelling the playing field - everything will be M1 CPU and it's already been pointed out that a Mini plus a cheap monitor of choice will prevent a lot of wasted column inches crying over Apple's component choice not meeting one particular person's taste/budget.

If you don't like it - go to Dell.com and stop filling these forums up with noise.

I think I'm quite satisfied with my psychic ability. I prefer to call it an eye on Apple's marketing mentality. Check out my posting record if you have the time and see how far back you need to go before you find my first mention of a 24" panel with ARM CPU and a 14" and 16" MacBook - the latter got launched with Intel, the former is still being rumoured. These are NOT done with any secret knowledge or leaks. They just make good marketing sense at the time as a reaction to the butterfly keyboard issues of the time and the forthcoming ARM CPUs and I justify every point.

I'm curious to know if this new iMac will have the capability to be used as a secondary display in target mode like older iMacs were able to?

Is the M1 chip in this iMac the same exact M1 chip in the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air? Same number of cores? Same amount of RAM?
Apple don't include MHz figures so you have to assume it's all the same (except where number of graphics cores are mentioned) and I believe the cores are otherwise the same. There will be benchmarks out in due course but if you look at the MacBook Air, Macbook Pro and Mac mini I think benchmarks have them very close with the Air losing out over lack of fan for intense workloads, the Mini probably winning with a better cooling solution than the Pro.

All the figures pointed towards a marked improvement over similar Intel CPUs and they'll only get better over time.

The SoCs suggest an 8Gb base RAM with up to 16Gb offered as an upgrade.

Where they can vary is doing a version with more compute and graphics cores - such as M1X and M1Z.

Ooooh, those new iMacs look really keen! It's like the late 1990s all over again! (i.e. the original iMac G3s) Of course I had just gotten an M1 MacBook Air, because I needed to get a new Mac laptop first (as my existing Mac laptop was a late 2009 polycarbonate MacBook). But maybe next year or something when it's time to get a new Mac desktop, if they come out with an even beefier Apple ARM silicon chip for the more upscale Macs, I may rethink the Mac Mini idea and go for a future iMac that would come with said chip! But that's not going to be for at least a year; right now I am perfectly happy with my M1 MacBook Air and my 2012 quad-core i7 Mac Mini.
