bending

After the whole iPhone 6 bending fiasco, I'd be surprised if they made the new Air this thin unless they make it flexible, too. Nice artist renditions but they forgot about reality.

I can't believe everyone is treating this one artist's mock-up (based on questionable "sources") like it's reality. Get a grip, people!

Apple manages to find a new way to help us customers decide between "Air" and "Pro" line.

Air: Light, massive compromises in terms of ports, longer battery life.

Pro: heavier, minimal compromises in ports, shorter battery life.

Not sure if I like where Apple is going with this

If the MBA bends, you're holding it wrong.

if MBA bends, only 6 people reported it within first week, NO RECALL or further investigation needed.

I was talking about for the Macbook line. I seen Ethernet cables going through iMacs and Mac Mini in computer labs but not for the MBP or MBA.
A lot of students I seen so far have older models and use mini-DVI. If newer, it's straight to AirPlay since there are Apple TVs and airplay supported hardware everywhere. Don't know why but that what I see in my setting. I don't know about yours.
There is also a decrease in USB thumb drives, I get a much of referrals on Dropbox now.

That makes more sense. No really need for wired ethernet with a mobile computer that has wireless ethernet. Using an ATV to airplay to a monitor kinda sounds like a waste of money for an inferior solution. Using a Mini DP to HDMI,DVI,etc.. is the best and most cost affective way to hook up a monitor.

I have no problem with getting rid of the thunderbolt port, but more than one USB-C port will be required. Since USB-c is so small I could see apple using 2 of them or 3 if they get rid of the Magsafe.

Thunderbolt technology might not be used much but the DP, Firewire, and ethernet pass through does bring useful functionality to many. I always have a Mini DP to HDMI adapter in my travel bag/

While I realize it's not a solid reinforcement of the rumor, I'll invite you all to go here:
http://www.usb.org/developers/docs/
and download the USB 3.1 specs zip. Then go into the directory, "USB Power Delivery", and look at the file "USB_PD_R2_0 V1.0 - 20140807 - redline.pdf"
...and look at the changes between March and August of last year in contributors :)
I haven't actually read into it if the spec allows for both charging and using SUB at the same time, though I assume so.

Edit: "With USB Power Delivery the power direction is no longer fixed. This enables the product with the power (Host or Peripheral) to provide the power. For example, a display with a supply from the wall can power, or charge, a laptop. Alternatively, USB power bricks or chargers are able to supply power to laptops and other battery powered devices through their, traditionally power providing, USB ports."

I'm going to withhold judgement. I've been saying my next Mac would be the 12" Retina Macbook Air since rumors of it first emerged. This is... different than I was expecting. I figured at least a magsafe, USB, and Thunderbolt would be present. We'll see what Apple conjures up.

Also notice - there isn't a word "retina" anywhere in the original 9to5mac report. I am beginning to wonder whether retina display is on the cards for this computer.

I think the point that was originally made was that the rumours were from a source that was considered more than usually reliable, based on previous information from the same source.

If the power button is moved somewhere more sensible and the speakers made somewhat tidier (at least have one lot of perforations the whole width, not little blocks of them), then it would be absolutely fine. If the keyboard really is narrower than the 11" Air and is the entire width of the machine it looks like it'll be a great machine.

Ha, John Gruber just took the Verge's Tom Warren to the woodshed over his
ridiculous thought that this new MBA would be a cheap laptop to compete with Chromebooks. Oh and as far as this leak bring intentional because of CES...I doubt the powers that be at Apple care much for Mark Gurman or 9to5Mac. And no way would Apple PR leak something detailed enough that you could create renders off of it. Seriously does the Verge understand Apple at all?

13 is the new 13?

I still think the monitor will be 13". All they have to do to achieve 11" portability with 13" productivity as stated in the original supply chain leaks is reduce that massive bezel. No bezel on the 13" and BAM you've got your 11" form factor with the same 13" screen. And if you don't cut out any other major features this single model replaces both of the other two. Also, just like they had to dumb down the mac mini because of how it competed with the more expensive mac desktop models, so will this more clearly differentiate the notebook line. I just returned a base-model 13" rMBP because it was, other than the higher res screen, not noticeably better than the 13" MBA in any way...which diminishes the purpose of a 13" rMBP line.

Don't strip too much out Apple!

What? Not sure I follow.

Meant to say:

I'm not sure even the current models offer that... As in, the current Macbook air doesn't have a thunderbolt bolt port, which is funny because Apple moved the rest of their lineup away from firewire when they introduced thunderbolt. And since the macbook air is essentially their mainstream notebook offering (and I base that from how it is the only macbook that does not carry the "pro" label), you'd think apple would include it in effort to get as many hands on it as possible. But I guess if your just a consumer there is no need for all those "confusing" ports.

Wait, is it even possible for multiple USB-C connectors on the same device to draw power? I wouldn't think so, given how they'd need to be wired to the power circuitry. And if not, that would mean that devices which use the connector for power are destined to only have one on the device (unfortunate), or otherwise have multiple plugs, with one just being labeled differently (confusing).

Also since it's the same connector on both ends, what would happen if you plugged both sides into devices that can both draw and supply power?

But it does have thunderbolt,
