With the launch of the iPhone 12 models last year, Apple introduced a $129 MagSafe Duo Charger that's able to charge an iPhone and an Apple Watch at the same time, but it's unfortunately already outdated.

The Apple Watch Series 7 has a new fast charging feature that requires an updated charging puck, and that means the Apple Watch Series 7 does not fast charge when connected to the MagSafe Duo as it uses a standard non-fast charge puck.

Apple confirmed that the MagSafe Duo is not able to fast charge an Apple Watch Series 7 in a support document updated this afternoon.Apple may have an updated version of the MagSafe Duo that supports Apple Watch fast charging coming in the future, but Apple Watch Series 7 owners who already own the current version will need to settle for standard charging speeds.

Stop writing dumb ****.

So wasteful. So much for environmentalism.

If you care about such stuff, you don't buy new stuff every year. You continue to use whatever you have until it breaks down. So maybe you get a new Apple Watch every 5 years.

I miss Steve Jobs. Crap like this wouldn't happen. All these excessive product lines wouldn't happen. Someone's butt would be chewed so hard it would be entertaining to watch. They develop these things like 3 years ahead and can't realize when they make something that won't work with the following year's devices. That's some serious oversight that I think Jobs wouldn't have missed.
It does work. It charges the Apple Watch 7 as fast as it charge Apple Watch 6. Nothing have changed with the products. It didn't become better or worse.

And this would be fine except its at the cost of innovation.

You can't have innovation without making money.

Innovation is taking something existing, make small changes or combine into a new ting, and thus reap economic success.

You are probably talking about invention where you invent something new and end up dying in a hotel room.

So, more environmentally friendly to make people buy new charging devices everywhere. LOL

Apple, quit claiming to be environmental friendly on your keynotes, when you contribute massively to landfills everywhere, when requiring a new charger to get max benefits.
God forbid they ever upgrade technology in their devices. 🙄 The charger still works just the same as it did before you knew fast charging for Apple Watch even existed.

But the many technologically illiterate Apple fanboys will still claim that there are good reasons why you can’t charge an Apple Watch with the big, iPhone 12-13 MagSafe pucks, and that there are good reasons why you can’t charge Apple Watch with any wireless Qi charger but have to get an Apple Mfi certified AW puck.

Why does there have to be good reasons? You buy the product and you deal with it.
There isn't an alternative which exist which is better for iPhone users.

It's not really interesting discussion how a product could be since I can't get it!

All about the environment though. Not surprised that it wouldn't fully work with the latest device. Apple seems all over the place lately with things working as they should.

What would Steve have done? I highly doubt things would change. Of course you might still be using a phone with a 4 inch display if he is still around.

The overpriced charing pad will work with the new watch but it will not fast charge. That's why apple include a fast charging puck with the watch. What else would you need to be satisified?

Not a big deal. I only use it at overnight to recharge. As for the 13 not fitting correctly, does that apply to the Max as well?
What about people who need a quick top off before leaving the house? Sure you can use the included cable but it's odd that the 1-year old MagSafe Duo can't fast charge a flag ship Watch from the same company. But we can all guess why it's not supported.

MagSafe Duo 2 at Unleashed? 🤔

I don’t think it will. Magsafe is iPhone accessory. It should be launched alongside the iPhone and Watch, which is done at September event. My gut says it will be a silent update.

Magsafe Duo 2 with redesigned puck due to stupid camera bump on 13 Pro, and fast charging for AW7. All that for $149 because why not? 🙄

But of course iPhone 14 could have an even more massive bump so that new Duo will have to be redesigned, and the cycle continues.

You give SJ too much credit. How about antennagate? seemingly no one remembers to test the phone? Quite the oversight under his leadership don’t you think?

This looks ridiculous for Apple. Yep, environmentally bad. Technology changes fast and especially charging technology these days. But this particular product should not have been released when it was. You can't tell me they didn't know about the charging tech in the matching upcoming products. They would do AW 1-2 years ahead. Apple accessories are compatibility soup right now.

The MagSafe duo still charges the Apple Watch 7 just fine, just without the benefit of fast charging. I think there’s just too much drama and hysteria here over nothing.

So they really had no knowledge of the charging tech coming in the following year's Apple Watch?

Uhhh wouldn't you want fast charging especially when traveling?
No. Oddly enough i sleep at night while traveling just like I do at home. I bought the MagSafe duo for its compact folding size making it easy to pack and then when I get to my hotel room I put it on the nightstand and charge my watch and phone overnight. Just like at home. Literally just this weekend I went away and used it with my new AW7 and iPhone 13 promax with no problems. Good thing I didn’t read macrumors then! Fast charging is a gimmick that can shorten battery life.

I mean, if the rest of the industry cared about travelers it would have jumped from USB-A to USB-C, without having mini-USB or Micro-USB.
USB-C didn't exist at the time.

Also, just to make it clear: Lightning was by far the superior solution at the time it was introduced. But now it's inferior and special, and Apple has already migrated other products from lightning to USB-C - so I'm just a bit annoyed that the rest still cling to it.

There’s a big difference between “clinging to it” and “not being bothered by it”. Apple will move to USB on phones in a year or two; life is too short to be annoyed over things you have zero control over. Especially since MagSafe means you dont even need to bring a Lightning cable with you.

I love how this site works:
1. Post a seemingly negative story about an Apple product.
2. Sit back and wait for the inevitable endless rants from the Apple haters that don't, and won't ever, own said product.

Good point. It is hard listening to people who have no experience whatsoever with a product, trash it. That drives me up the wall!
