I would guess they want to ship it with snow leopard so they don't have to support 10.5 on it.

the hell is he on about. Please tell me that I can use this machine (when it gets here..) for editing photos at a professional level with the new 24" LCD. If I can't I'm going to pull a Michael Douglas in the film 'Falling Down'....

Gufforr.

He's probably referring to the issues MBP's have had when it comes to rendering complex pages - I usually notice it in iTunes, but have seen the issue in Finder and Safari once or twice.

The two most recent MBP's I've had have both exhibited this problem. It's random and annoying, but usually a restart clears the issue right up.

Apple still has not come up with a fix for this.

You should be fine to edit photos. I do all the time with my early 08 MPB (actually more like mid 08 MBP), which I usually have connected to a 23" ACD

maybe they will take this extra time to resolve a horrible problem with the unibody macbook pro 15: external monitors such as EIZO (used by many image professionals) connected through minoport to DVI adapter (there is no other way) don't display reds properly.

Apple doesn't tell about this problem but many image, photography, and video professionals are stuck with an unusable setup. All expensive stuff and a problems that can set you back professionally if you need to have accurate color reproduction.

It's already a shame that Apple allows this to happen to their image professional customers, but maybe, maybe they will at least try to avoid this problem on their now 17" macbook pros.

It means that Apple would rather announce a product and suffer the consequences of delayed shipment for their laptop customers than announce anything for their desktop customers.

Bit of a stretch don't you think?

That would be my guess--but don't count on them actually being fully worked out. Perhaps the new battery is causing problems. I'm eager to see how this Rev A prodcut fares in the real world.

It looks like the new battery on the 17" cannot be easily swapped out. Is this true?

Since these notebooks are made in China, maybe the reason is in Chinese Newyear?

This holiday just finished and the Chinese are starting to work again this week. It wouldn't surprise me if one of Apple's suppliers in China is causing this delay due to this holiday.

The batteries were recalled, and since they aren't "user replaceable" they had to ship everything back to China to be rebuilt.

</sarcasm>

You are correct, the battery cannot be replaced without disassembling the laptop.

True to rumors, the new MacBook Pro has a longer-lasting battery which will run for up to 8 hours, but is now non-removable.

I wish everyone would stop believing Apple's marketing talk.
Everyone knows you never get that much in the real world. If this lappy does get 8 hours while doing meaningful work, I'll eat my hat!

Yeah of course, but your still going to get much longer than a normal battery, otherwise they wouldnt have wasted money and time developing it.

Well actually on second thoughts they did spend time and money developing the mighty mouse...:D

noone can tell for sure until someone benchmarks it, hmm probably be around next Christmas some time at the rate they're producing these things.

I was going to dispute your first sentence, but then your third sentence stated what would have been my argument.

I'm very skeptical of Apple's battery life claim for the 17", but if they are exaggerating there's no place to hide once customers have the systems. We'll know soon enough.

ps: For me, non-swappable battery equals no sale. No discussion - no sale.

8hrs battery life is prolly what one gets with no wifi, no external FW/usb disks attached, and no cpu/opengl intensive apps running. ;)

Hey guys, I need some help.
I consider to purchase a MBP, but I heard iMacs are probably coming out with quad-core processors. Then what about MBP?? Is MBP gonna be used Intel Quad-Core too?? Should I wait ?? By the way, Snow Leopard will be available soon??? Really confused now, please please give me some directions!!!
Thanks guys.

What a rediculous question to ask; do you need portability? if you don't need it then go for the iMac, if you do need it then go for the MacBook (Pro).

Good lord, the two are not interchangable because they're targetted at different markets.

For the record I have an iMac 20inch 2.6Ghz model plus a White MacBook (2.4Ghz) - each do a different job.

I´m gonna hold you to that promisse .

I´m a pro user and doing lots of "meaningful work" .. so I expect to recive my MacBook Pro 17 - Antilgare in the end of this mounth ...

If I can do 8 hours of meaningful work that I do everyday on my Mac Pro I expect you to do what you say "Eat your hat"" and post it on YouTube. If you are right .. I will eat my hat and post it on YouTube ofcourse ...

The wireless productivity test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing various websites and editing text in a word processing document with display brightness set to 50%.

In other words, everything is done to minimize disk access and there is no usage of the DVD.

You mean the target professional market for an upgraded 17 inch laptops dont just buy 3K computers to surf the web and edit documents at 50% brightness?

This is apple marketing at its finest. Supporters continue to regurgitate that magic 8hr nonsense. My former AIR couldnt do the numbers advertised nor can the majority of other computers.

Battery life

This whole removable battery debate is such a non-issue. My iPhone does not have a removable battery either. There are at least a half-dozen (probably more) external lithium batteries that I can buy, charge, and use to recharge my iPhone (or keep attached to my iPhone) to dramatically extend the usage between recharges.

The MacBook Pro 17 market will spur the exact same 3rd party solutions. I predict more computers will follow because it makes manufacturing easier, extends the internal battery life, and makes for a more streamlined laptop.

This is a BIG plus.
