Can someone tell me historical how accurate these rumours have been over the years? I've only been part of the dark side for about a year so I wouldn't know but I wonder why some people seriously get bent out of shape over rumours.

Wow, so if I want an OLED display, something that would get me to consider coming back to an iPhone next year, I also have to get a stupid curved display and pay for a 'premium' model? Otherwise it's the usual old LCD with poor backlight and yellow splotches? Screw this.

Loving the Galaxy S7 I switched from a 6S to, but if Samsung does the same thing going to all Edge models, I'll look someplace else, probably to Nexus. I can't stand curved displays, I think they look stupid and function horribly, and I can't put a screen protector on and without one the thing gets all scratched.

But even then, at least an all Edge S8 or the highest tiered Nexus would be cheaper than what Apple will probably price this 'premium' all-curved OLED iPhone. I'm thinking it'll start at $850 for 32GB (or lol 16GB), then the top storage which I would want will be $1050. I'M NOT SPENDING THAT. AT ALL.

I'm all for an OLED display, but what's the deal with a curved display? Just like the curved TV's, it seems awfully gimmicky to me.

I use to think the same think about curved tvs until I bought one. I let myself be talked into it thinking I can always return it if I don't like the experience.

After about a week, week and half adjustment period, I LOVE it. The curve makes for a more immersive experience. It's hard to quantify until you spend several hours watching one.

As for the curved screen phone, I like the look until I try and hold one. I tried using a friend's S6 edge and hated the hand feel. I never feel like I have as solid a grip on the phone. I'm really curious that if these rumors are true, how  will solve that issue.

I think I predicted Apple would go for a "pro" oled phone with pencil for next year at a higher tier. Pencil will be extra. Currently they have no Note competitor. It's a nobrainer to do. Can't say i'm on board with regular LCD screens for the regular iphones. It's not like OLED took apple by surprise. They will have had time to get supply ramped up.

...it appears Apple are trying to price ppl out of the market for the high end phone.
Yup, that's exactly what they're doing. Trying to drive sales down to zero. Brilliant analysis!
BTW, 'Apple IS'. They are *A* company, singular, not a lot of companies.

I'm just not understanding what the benefit is for a curved edge screen? Frankly, I don't get why people want edge to edge screens either. Not having a bezel can create spots where your fingers are that can cover up whatever is on-screen. Unless Apple can figure out how to make the iPhone self-levitate, you're almost almost always going to be holding the phone - that is, unless you're not holding your phone and it's always in a stand or on a desk.

But even then, what does it matter whether the screen goes edge to edge? And the thing with Samsung having little icons appear on the curved edge - that's just stupid. It's a handheld device, why would anyone think having to turn it just so, so they can see some small icon on the edge, when they could more easily just look at the dang screen? It's a gimmick and nothing more.

And destroys chance at using any protective glass screen cover. If the glass scratches more easily we f'ed. Imagine dropping phone on edge. And forget using any case.

Curved display is a biggest nonsense in the history of smartphones.....ridiculous.

Samsung AMOLED has always on, it consumes only about ~0.7%/hour at high brightness. It makes for a decent night clock.

If apple only releases what the rumours predict, they would be like a century behind.

More plans to keep bloating the lineup...

Yeah they should go back to one option for everyone. While they're at it they should make just one iMac and just one MacBook because who need choice? Stupid Apple making multiple options for their users.

OLED screen? Great!

Reduced bezels? Fantastic!

Wrap around screen? I don't see a true use case for it. Hopefully it will be something more useful than being able to send someone your heartbeat. That is if it is real.

It's purely cosmetic, yet helps internet folks believing a slower than last year's iPhone device, with a stuttering UI and riddled with bloatware, has a "innovative edge" over Apple.

You can assign colours to different persons, the table will light in those colours up due to the curved display when they call/receive a message.

Reducing the number of models was the first thing Steve Jobs did when he returned to Apple. There are very good reasons for having a lean product range.
