I'm all for an OLED display, but what's the deal with a curved display? Just like the curved TV's, it seems awfully gimmicky to me.

It is, really.

I think Apple is pushing Samsung to release such stupid phones. I mean, design like this is sort of a deadend, once you add curved screen you cant snap it out of it in the next model.

Thankfully just a rumor. Even still, Like in the case of the Edge, I don't see any real use for a curved to the edge screen. It's innovation without a purpose (Just my opinion).

The only thing I am really excited to potentially see, is the OLED screens. I really like that technology, and despite my having no issues with the current Apple displays.

I have to say that I sat on the bus next to a Samsung user last year, and she had the curved edge screen. Even though I have no interest in Android I could tell just by looking over at the phone that the curved edge screen is very immersive. It sort of sucks you in. It's hard to describe until you've actually looked at one.

I'm not a Samsung or Android hater, but I don't really see a point to the curved screens, for several reasons...

When you're watching video, the effect of the video curving over the edges makes no sense.
There phone is thinner on its sides, having less area to hold on to.
There screen is needlessly exposed, and you cannot have a case with a lip to protect it in the event of falls or nicks.

I seriously hope if Apple decides to make a curved screen phone, that they will also make a regular flat screen phone with the exact same hardware specifications. Not everyone will want that.

There is always the option of, ya know...just buy the phone you like. I'm almost positive that Apple won't force you to buy a device that you don't want.

Its obvious Tim doesn't know where to go from here (Steve's best talent) . smartphones are a huge business and I think Apple should do 4 models to cover this global market:
1-Pro for the pro user
2-Your standard iphone
3-The smaller size one (iphone 5 size)
4-A very cheap and small entry model like an iPod touch for those who can't afford the higher prices.

this should cover it all imho

I just hope that if Apple obviously copies Samsung with the curved screen that people in the audience boo Tim Cook. Apple appears to need a wake up call. Hopefully I am wrong and we'll see an innovative product.

I very much look forward to the curved display I think they looks great, also zero basel.

Hope it come in an iPhone 6 size (which has a curved screen anyway) as we all know.

I guess they will disable the touch screen a few mm in all around so holding the curved screen doesn't effect the user experience?

The Apple Watch uses an OLED display and I love how deep the blacks are. i am excited about OLED technology as well. I don't really care about the curved screen but and edge to edge display with less bezel and wasted space in a smaller form would be great.

Samsung AMOLED has always on, it consumes only about ~0.7%/hour at high brightness. It makes for a decent night clock.

If apple only releases what the rumours predict, they would be like a century behind.
Nice idea, but this is because and OLED and he nothing to do with an edged display.

Probably something to feed the forum so nobody complains this was a slow news/rumors day.

Sure, then you have to live with bubbles under the protector.

If the screen protector is applied correctly and a reputable screen protector at that, I have never had any issues with bubbles under the protector. It's user error and a poor quality screen protector.

Our on-call phone is an S6 Edge, I used it for a week, and since then, I simply pull the SIM from that phone, and put it into my old 5S, or my Nexus whenever I am on call.

After using it, I still see it as a useless gimmick.

No one's buying the 7, now you're saying the 8 may suffer the same fate ... are you implying that Apple's sky is falling?
It will unless they can "innovate". Maybe an Apple watch that can operate independent of an iPhone without killing the battery for example. Where's all the insanely great stuff that was supposed to be in the pipeline? Let's face reality, Apple has become a boring iterative company w/o any vision IMHO. I've been buying Apple products since intro of original Mac in 1984 so I know from where I speak.

What's the exact point of a curved display on the edges? Is there any? Because I totally don't get it. This is just imitating Samsung's marketing gimmick for no practical purpose whatsoever. Super. Lame.

OMG! You would think that Apple, known as market leader & innovator would not be swayed by the market of curved phones. But, even, innovators will follow, I guess... where the money is. The question, I guess, is... there must be enough $$$, enuff crave of curved phones that Apple would want a share of the pie.

This and the news of new apple macbook pro's having OLED keys, ala Razer, makes me think Apple is running out of ideas. Lol. I guess even Apple can get stagnant.

I still sorta want Apple to succeed, though, because the alternative is worst. Maybe, Apple's version of a curved phone is better. And, maybe, Apple's version of OLED keys on their laptop will be better than Razer. There is still hope....

It has everything to do with an edge display. With the phone laying flat on a table it would be very difficult to see what's in that photo while lying down, with the edge display you only need to glance over to your phone without picking it up to see that information.
