Why does the 4" iPhone SE (or whatever it will be called) get shafted with older specs? It's a bit unfair if only the "flagship" big screened iPhones get all the newest tech.
Google pixel 2 have the same tech in smaller and bigger models. Only screen & battery are different.

Wonder if there will be a March or April event then or if Apple will just announce SE 2 alongside other iPhone’s in 2018.

Although I know Apple will not be stuffing the SE2 with the latest goodies from the X, I wish they did. The only reason I moved from my beloved 5 to the 6 was that my eyes needed a bigger screen. I hated (but have since gotten used to) not being able to do everything with one hand. My wife and I have just gotten the X. Lovely device - IMHO Apple's single biggest step forward since the original iPhone - but, being even taller and slightly wider than the 6, it's done nothing to improve one-handed operation.

So I guess I wish the X would be extended downward to the 4" form factor of the SE instead of just the rumored upward move to phablet territory.

But the SE is Apple's low-end device, so it definitely won't have the leading edge X features.

You SE fans are acting like it is a 6s. It isn't as anyone who ever used a 6s can attest..

Not sure how your above Post is related to anything. Who said anything about me being an SE fan? I simply indicated the similarities between the SE and 6S. I Think it's fairly obvious Both different form factors, but share similar specifications.

Lets say you all get your dream of 8 "internals" in an SE form factor. So what. It will still feel like a childs toy and will have a screen suitable for texting and selfies. But hey, its cheap so...

You're being overly dismissive of the iPhone SE for your own personal reasons labeling it a 'Child's toy.' . Not everybody wants a larger iPhone and a smaller form factor is what others prefer updated specifications. It seems you can't accept others choice of preferences.

It's a 6 year-old chassis. Time to change it.

the fact that it is a 6 year old chassis, a design that stands the test of time, is why it is relevant.
Apple has a winner when it comes to the iPhone 5 chassis.
people like the way the device feels in their hands, pockets and purses

I hope the update has:

- no headphone jack (haters are gonna be coming at me)
- no induction charging
- Face ID
- 3D Touch
- X internals

You misconstrued my post. It wasn't listing hardware specifications, it was was referring to the processor and RAM being exactly the same as the iPhone 6s, hence why I stated internal specifications.

Ah okay, alight. If I'd type "exact same internals" I'd really mean ''exact same internals'', not just the ram and cpu. But okay haha.

I hope the update has:

- no headphone jack

I sure don't...
That would really suck for me.

I use it all the time in multiple cars (they are old) and 2 different living situations (aux jacks) and doing FaceTime Audio chat every night with a family member (wired is so much more responsive and nice to have volume on cable)

adds 3D Touch
That would require a Taptic Engine, which there is no space for inside the SE chassis (at least not without significant re-engineering which would make the price rocket). I’d pretty much say it will be limited to improvements like A11, Touch ID 2, barometer.

They need to clean the lineup by replacing the SE with a 5.2" iPhone along with the 5.8" and 6.4" phones. It's size would fit between the 4" and 4.7" iPhones, but due to the screen would be more of a 4" phone replacement (just like the 5.8" is more of a 4.7" replacement).
