The chiseled edges are so nice. My 5s was the last phone that had a look I love.

Not really into the current round edge trend from Apple. But then the competitions are no better; the Samsung Note 8's curved edge is worse, jmho of course.

This is one thing that frustrates me about Apple: never knowing their product plans. I guess I could just sit with old products until a new one I want (in this case the SE) happens to be announced. But without a roadmap I'm always in the dark and have to guess. I got an 8 under the assumption there'd be no new SE, and I'm doing okay with the 8. There would have to be something really tempting besides the phone's size to get me to switch back now.

My wife's SE is dying (survived a bath in a cup of coffee a while back) and needs an upgrade, but once again Apple has dropped the ball... hopefully the rumor is true.

But my prediction is they'll drop the headphone jack (just to piss more people off), bump it to iPhone 7 specs, keep the external form exactly the same, and the price the same. That is IF they do it at all.

Not sure what I'm going to do if they don't do something as my wife wants a small phone with no bells and whistles. She will likely never survive moving away from iOS.

After having the iPhone X for a few weeks I've decided that much prefer the form factor of the iPhone SE. That phone is the perfect size and weight for me. All they need to do is bump up the specs, "notch-ify it" so it has more screen space, and I'm sold. Anything else would be a bonus in my eyes.

keep the external form exactly the same

If they do that, I think they might leave the headphone jack there honestly.
It would cost more to change the form factor & tooling to remove it I'd think, no?

(just guessing & hoping obviously)
[doublepost=1514921918][/doublepost]It's always refreshing for me to see how passionate and numerous the SE fan base really is actually.

Apple would be really really foolish to abandon this and not keep feeding this, admittedly niche, segment of their users something to keep us happy.

Forcing us upmarket/upsize is no guarantee. I've tried it all and I simply won't use a larger iPhone. Doesn't fit with anything I do with my device and how I use them.

We are here to give you money Apple - just don't screw up the SE and the sizing situation and we'll be here to buy.

We'll see - I think Apple sort of targets (at least in their minds at one time) the current SE at that as it is.

For some reason their corporate bubble was surprised by how many of us here in the US love that size and feature set.

If we want to quantify SE sales, CIRP data says SE represented between 3-7% of iPhone sales in October 2016 and December 2017.

It's hard to say whether SE sales are due to price or form factor. But given the substantial iPhone 6s and 7 sales mix in December 2017, I would say price is a big factor for iPhone users.

Wouldn't it be the most short-lived phone if the SE *didn't* receive any updates?

Good points...

One way to keep it cheap?
Don't change the casing and just give it another spec bump.

I'll buy 2 instantly if they only do that.

The rumored 6.1 inch LCD X like phone may actually be the SE Plus. An SE2 with an X design may have a body similar in size to the current SE, but a larger display, closer to the 4.7 inch (likely 4.5 inch). It may feature Face ID but not portrait selfie-mode, be made of metal not glass —so no wireless charging, have an iPhone 7 rear camera, 2 GB of RAM, 32/128 GB storage, no headphone jack, 3D Touch iffy, and feature the A11 Bionic because of Face ID. The X design will set the phone apart from the competitors in the “targeted” markets where $450 is still a lot of money.

You mean, "your" there to give them money :), i'm not... but the SE is still a budget phone i think even if it is moving into the mainstream side of things.

Adding fancy tech to a budget phone does not move it out of that space if the majority can buy it over other iPhone models..

I still see it as a budget phone, unless 90% reckon its too expensive, which won't happen.

You can't add more tech to a budget phone, and keep it affordable... At one stage u gotta raise the price... But if Apple does do this, they will have to have something for the "new budget phone"

You can't expect every 'joe blogs' to pay $600+ on a phone can you, even unlocked?

The 6.1" LCD iPhone is expected to be priced between $649 and $749.

That's well out of SE territory.

Not true. It lacked:

- the better front facing camera (still used the same as on the 5s)
- the faster TouchID 2.0
- 3D touch

So sadly, it kept a lot of the 5s stuff. In the end, it just got faster with a better rear camera.

It also didn’t have a barometer.
The screen was the same as the 5S as well I believe, didn’t have a colour accuracy, contrast ratio and various improvements in thinness.

I'd strongly dislike a 4.7" chassis. If apple does that, I think I'll finally jump to Android, yuck. The Sony Xperia Compact series are small and nice though.

I think that is how most US buyers of the SE feel. It wasn't 4" because apple wanted to give people a compact phone. It was made as a low budget phone for other countries, and Apple just happened to have a ton of 5S shells. My guess is they are in a similar position with their 4.7" shells.

Finally some good news :)

3D Touch and slightly smaller bezels and I’m a happy camper.

Unless we hit hyperinflation, there’s no way I’m going to spend €1400 on a smartphone for at least another decade..

I can afford any iPhone on offer but I prefer the form factor of SE...I tend to think that the first adjective in Chairman Mao's Little Red Book had something to do with it's popularity (or at least it's practical omnipresence), although I guess it was actually closer to the size of an iphone 6Plus.

Why does the 4" iPhone SE (or whatever it will be called) get shafted with older specs? It's a bit unfair if only the "flagship" big screened iPhones get all the newest tech.
Because apple wants you to fork over the bigger bucks to get the "newest tech".

It will be on par with the 7 at the most, se is always a generation behind

Um, no. The SE launched the same production year of the 6s (later in the year) and had the 6s's CPU and main camera. To stay on that same path they'd put the 8's CPU and Camera in...with the low power cores, its awesome battery life might improve again.

Rumors are iPhone 7's internals, but we'll see.

It's a 6 year-old chassis. Time to change it.

I say keep the chasis so we continue to have awesome battery life & the headphone jack. You know if they go to a "what we need chasis design" like the standard 7/8 we'll see battery life get cut in half. Having the 7/8 Plus's battery life is a feature they should not loose on an update SE. JMHO.

If this phone is to stay as the cheap option then it can’t really have exactly the same internals as the iPhone 8. ( otherwise why would you buy an iPhone 8? )

It really depends whether Apple want to complicate their lineup even further by keeping around the older SE.
If they do, then I could well see it having many of the iPhone 8 specifications. If they decide to scrap the old iPhone SE, then I would probably predict this ends up looking more like an iPhone 7 on the inside.
That’s said, the lineup is already complicated enough, so unless the 6S goes away, Adding an additional option to the mix could be detrimental overall in my opinion.

I love the word "May".

The next SE **MAY** be 1 inch thick with a battery that lasts a month, have a built in 4k projector and allow you to communicate with your dead ancestors.

This article is clickbait at its finest.
It's not call Mac RUMORS for nothing. :)

Why?
Initially it launched in exactly that situation relative to the 6s
