keep the external form exactly the same
We'll see - I think Apple sort of targets (at least in their minds at one time) the current SE at that as it is.
For some reason their corporate bubble was surprised by how many of us here in the US love that size and feature set.
If we want to quantify SE sales, CIRP data says SE represented between 3-7% of iPhone sales in October 2016 and December 2017.
It's hard to say whether SE sales are due to price or form factor. But given the substantial iPhone 6s and 7 sales mix in December 2017, I would say price is a big factor for iPhone users.

If they do that, I think they might leave the headphone jack there honestly.
It would cost more to change the form factor & tooling to remove it I'd think, no?
(just guessing & hoping obviously)
[doublepost=1514921918][/doublepost]It's always refreshing for me to see how passionate and numerous the SE fan base really is actually.
Apple would be really really foolish to abandon this and not keep feeding this, admittedly niche, segment of their users something to keep us happy.
Forcing us upmarket/upsize is no guarantee. I've tried it all and I simply won't use a larger iPhone. Doesn't fit with anything I do with my device and how I use them.
We are here to give you money Apple - just don't screw up the SE and the sizing situation and we'll be here to buy.
The rumored 6.1 inch LCD X like phone may actually be the SE Plus. An SE2 with an X design may have a body similar in size to the current SE, but a larger display, closer to the 4.7 inch (likely 4.5 inch). It may feature Face ID but not portrait selfie-mode, be made of metal not glass —so no wireless charging, have an iPhone 7 rear camera, 2 GB of RAM, 32/128 GB storage, no headphone jack, 3D Touch iffy, and feature the A11 Bionic because of Face ID. The X design will set the phone apart from the competitors in the “targeted” markets where $450 is still a lot of money.
Not true. It lacked:
- the better front facing camera (still used the same as on the 5s)
- the faster TouchID 2.0
- 3D touch
So sadly, it kept a lot of the 5s stuff. In the end, it just got faster with a better rear camera.
I'd strongly dislike a 4.7" chassis. If apple does that, I think I'll finally jump to Android, yuck. The Sony Xperia Compact series are small and nice though.

I hope they keep the SE exactly the same externally, just update the internals. TouchID2, better cameras, processors etc.
You misconstrued my post.
Because apple wants you to fork over the bigger bucks to get the "newest tech".Why does the 4" iPhone SE (or whatever it will be called) get shafted with older specs? It's a bit unfair if only the "flagship" big screened iPhones get all the newest tech.
It will be on par with the 7 at the most, se is always a generation behind
It's a 6 year-old chassis. Time to change it.
Um, no. The SE launched the same production year of the 6s (later in the year) and had the 6s's CPU and Camera.
It's not call Mac RUMORS for nothing.I love the word "May".
The next SE **MAY** be 1 inch thick with a battery that lasts a month, have a built in 4k projector and allow you to communicate with your dead ancestors.
This article is clickbait at its finest.
If this phone is to stay as the cheap option then it can’t really have exactly the same internals as the iPhone 8. ( otherwise why would you buy an iPhone 8? )
In my opinion it is as modern and beautiful as it looked 6 years ago. Unbeatable tool. It's a 6 year-old chassis. Time to change it.
