I expect an incredibly fast M2 iPad severely crippled by iPadOS. It’ll rule the benchmarks, but will add absolutely nothing to actually productivity due to the artificial handicap on iPadOS.
Apple should just give us MacOS when we have a keyboard/trackpad/mouse connected to the iPad.

The iPad can never be a pro laptop replacement as long as it has the Fisher Price iPad OS. Why is Apple missing this?

Sorry but Fisher Price OS has already been taken, attempted to sell, and miserably failed by Microsoft, starting with Vista, Windows 8, Windows Mobile 7, 8, and 10. That’s what happens when you get a fake Picasso in Joe Belfiore designing the UI. Yuk what a joke all of that was!

The number 1 feature request from me is landscape mode as the default configuration...meaning having the camera on the broad edge of the tablet!

Same here. The M1 Pro Max has eaten into most of my iPad Pro (2018) usage, but I still like to use the iPad Pro for videoconferencing, which I do daily. But the camera placement is a dealbreaker. I don't know any professional who uses an iPad Pro regularly in portrait, and I wouldn't purchase another until, at the very least, the option is offered for a landscape camera.
Some Pro users use it for other things other than videoconferencing…sketching and taking notes usually work better for me in portrait, also when I use it while standing…

Expecting M2 is just so.. underwhelming cuz if they actually deliver it I will be more disappointed than happy..

I'm with the other users on this thread, iPadOS needs a makeover more so than it needs a new chip.. or if they're not gonna open up the M1 chip just leave it as is and don't update it.. cuz M1 hasn't even been fully utilised yet.

yeah iPadOS 16 is one of the things I’m most excited about this year. Last year too and even if they did add some nice things it was too incremental.

I basically updated all my hardware in the last year (except my apply tv which is from 2015 and is fine) so won’t be buying anything new probably until 2024

One thing I’d like them to do is use universal control as a way to extend the iPad display.

Other things
- making the files app more like finder
- adding horizontal splits, floating windows (like the quick note one)
- Home Screen customization (moving away from the locked in grid or at least give the option). Also current placements with the widgets and app spacing is just horrible. iPadOS 14 Home Screen was much better for this.
- more pro apps (both apple and others)

Full MacOS is not happening and doesn’t need to happen because most of the above things won‘t be for average users. So they need to keep the iPad’s simplicity and one app focus for the vast majority of users. But the more professional users these are needed to move the iPad forward.

I only expect an M2 chip and a Mini LED screen for the 11" model which will result in a price increase for it. So I'd get the 2021 model of people don't like the blooming effect.

I've been comparing the new iPad Mini to the current 11" Pro a lot as I'm split between which one to buy, and quite a few people have changes their iPad Pro's to the new Mini almost purely because iOS won't and will never fully utilise all that M1 power. They say the new Mini is the first iPad experience they've had for a while??
I think Apple could do something to give the Pro a boost with all that extra oomph.

I'm still split on my decision, but I've been using an old iPad Pro for a while as my main device and I have noticed the short comings of iOS I have to say, still it's more or less managed my use.

What’s the point of updating the hardware when software is the problem?
Oh ok, and you think consumers are just going to purchase an iPad that’s updated just for ‘software features’ and no new hardware features? (Don’t answer that, I’m asking rhetorically, I already know the answer.)

If that’s your logic, then follows the complaint from the consumer of ‘Well, why would I purchase a new iPad that has no new hardware upgrades, I guess I’ll just keep my old iPad.’

Apple needs leverage to sell a new product, and usually it’s hardware features that promotes marketing, that will also take advantage of software features. So they’re both required to work in tandem to sell a new product and make Apple money. That’s a rudimentary 101 business model.

Well I upgraded from the first gen iPad Air from 8 years ago to last years iPad Pro 12” and to be honest I was not that impressed. Yes it was a massive upgrade and better screen but the operating system just felt the same and did not feel Like I was using something new just faster. I felt like I needed something that my old iPad could jot do in the operating system.

Also the biggest problem I have with the iPad Pro is the Face ID as the position is In The most ridiculous place ever I am always putting in the pass code as something is always I. The way and remembers every single failed attempted until it asks for the passcode. I have owned a iPhone X for 5 years and have had not one problem With the Face ID but this iPad is a joke using the Face ID I hate it.

They need to add two cameras or put the Face ID in the corner or something. It will be my last iPad until they add something to the operating system that takes advantage of the power.

It doesn’t matter how many top notch parts are put in new 2022 model with that outdated iPadOS. iPadOS is the only thing that responsible for why iPad Pro is not a Pro device.

Apple should switch to Wacom style pencils. It's much better not having to charge them, and they are just as accurate. They should also work on everything... iPads, iPhones, Macs etc.

I love my 2021 12.9 iPad Pro, but another hardware spec bump will hardly impress anyone. Everything changed when the M1 was placed in the iPad Pro. It’s on Apple to now revamp iPadOS and then we’ll be impressed. The last thing the iPad Pro needs is more power. It’s getting pathetic how under utilized the hardware is. Give us a new Magic Keyboard with function keys while you’re at it Apple.

Because they don’t want to cannibalize MacBook sales. It’s intentional which is all the more frustrating. It’s honestly the most impressive single piece of hardware they make in my opinion given it’s display, internal specs, forma factor, and potential. Just so held back in the software side.

I got a 2021 12.9 inch iPP last December.
  1. I didn't want to wait another year
  2. The M1 is already way faster than anything I'm going to need.
  3. Until they overhaul iPadOS to make use of the M series power it's moot anyway.
  4. I honestly do not see what the ApplePencil3 could add that I don't already have on my AP2.
  5. I have the MiniLED Display
  6. MagSafe charging is irrelevant to me as is reverse charging.
  7. A titanium chassis would be gilding the lilly.
So I didn't wait and am really enjoying having my iPP now.
Same boat. Got my 2021 12.9 in October last year and I see nothing another spec bump would bring that is exciting.

Offer MacOS option when docked on the keyboard and iPad OS when it's in tablet mode. Then I will upgrade.
Titanium is not needed on the iPad I think. It would be better for iPhone, which is too heavy right now (I am talking about the Max).

It is amazingly many who cannot understand the difference between OS and Apps. High end apps can be taxing and that is expected. If the OS is taxing the hardware, you should have bought a new machine years ago.

Last time I checked, Apple is providing a range of Macs for those who wants MacOS. For those who does not, iPads are a good choice. Very simple.

Needed though:
*desktop apps
*>15 inch option

I find your middle para hard to believe .... the only reason anyone would move from an 11 pro to a mini is portability. In every other aspect, whether the OS takes advantage of M1 (or even A12Z) or not, the 11 pro is better.

Having experienced the terrible Mini 6 screen, tiny icons etc, I'd rather own an older 11" pro than the new mini.
