Solves a problem that doesn't exist, 6+ years after the competition launched their folding phones.
Friends I have that had LG and Samsung foldables got them at extreme discount, and said they would never buy another foldable phone (crease in the screen that forms, grit and dirt that gets on the screens grinds in your pocket, etc)
That settles it! This dude’s friends called it..Stop the press!! This product line is DOA

How do I carry an iPad mini in my front pocket?

Problem solved.

I use the phone as a phone.
If I want to do more, I use the iPad, or the Mac.

Simple as that.
Which is probably why they'll give it iPad capabilities and charge $2000 for it (enough to cover the loss of someone buying two devices such as an iPhone and iPad for the exact reasons you mentioned).

Whatever they gonna do. Thank you to all beta users.
Applecare+ all the way (which I already pay for). I imagine they'll have to replace it often/ill be doing far more claims than now. Apple lets you claim unlimited instances in a year though so it wont matter.
Somebody I met on a recent cruise had the same plan where they've have the Samsung fold, got the insurance then been forcing Samsung to replace it every 4-9 months when it breaks in the middle.

$10 a month for a guarantee your 1.5-2k phone will be in perfect condition is a hell of a good deal.

I just wanted to beat the "solution in search of a problem" folks to the punch. :)

Found one! 🙄

Apple has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to foldable devices. While Samsung, Huawei, and others are already on their fourth (or even fifth) generation of foldables, Apple hasn’t released a single product in this category yet.

If first-generation devices are anything to go by—case in point, the Apple Vision Pro, it’s fair to expect that Apple’s debut foldable may not be perfect out of the gate. The Vision Pro was an impressive showcase of technology, but it didn’t quite land as Apple had hoped (pricing for one and content). With rumors suggesting it could be replaced after two iterations, it shows how even Apple needs time to refine emerging product lines plus their loss of engineers to META.

So the real question is: will Apple’s first foldable feel like a “catch-up” product or a game-changer right from launch? either way, their timeline to deliver something truly amazing ,while competitors iterate rapidly, will be very interesting to watch. Hopefully 2030 if all bugs ironed out.

This is exactly my experience. The Fold 7 is the only phone that tempts me away from Apple. I know people who have had the Fold since the 3 and would never go back to a regular phone. I think that if Apple can do what Samsung has done with the Fold series, they’ll have a winner.
I do look forward to Apples offering.

Unable to wait any longer I bought a Z Fold7 and it has truly exceeded my expectations. Having initially scoffed at the idea, after trying a friends I was sold. Now that I’ve had mine for some time it’s become second nature to use and enjoy.

As a long time Apple enthusiast it would be great to see them produce a high quality, well equipped folding iPhone.

A foldable smartphone from Apple is pathetic because it is nothing more than a technological competition with its rivals. Nobody really needs a brick in their pocket. With its innovation power virtually non-existent, Apple is now just limping along behind the market and has long since ceased to play a leading role... and unfortunately, that doesn't just apply to hardware.

Mix of titanium and aluminum? This is groundbreaking and truly disruptive technology. I heard that electronic components will be used inside 😲😲😲🤣🤣😂

Just hoping that it will be very durable irrespective of the metal that is going to be used. Excited to see Apple's first foldable and all the rumors leading up to the launch.

It's been scientifically proven that holding a weight like a heavy phone in the hand for a long period of time will cause strain to our body.
Well, maybe Apple should produce a phone that only weights 10 grams. Dunno how it will happen but I guess everyone would like it, even if it has no battery life.
