HAHAHAHA, I don't believe one word of it.

It even sounds worse than 'the New iPad'.

They are working on a iPhone 5s design (2013), they are using iPhone 6 hardware (2014), they are releasing it in 2016 after the iPhone 6s (2015), hmmm how should we call it: iPhone 5se, for sure.

Apple really needs to rethink their naming strategy with the iPhone. It's getting to be a bit convoluted. Their first mistake was naming the 2nd gen iPhone, the iPhone 3G instead of iPhone (2nd generation) and advertising the 3G component as a tentpole feature rather than part of the name, i.e.: "The new iPhone, now with 3G" or something like that. Because of that, we have never had an iPhone simply called iPhone since the original. The naming scheme of iPhone generations should be the same as the Macs (and even iPods) whereas the overall name is retained but has a generation number or year model in parenthesizes. For a while and for the most part, the iPad was following the Mac model, yes they came out with the iPad 2 in 2011 but between 2012-13, iPads were identified by their generation and not a new number for each new model, but then they messed it up again in 2014 with the iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 (and 4), etc.

The naming scheme does need that sort of streamlining but it's honestly a bit more difficult now that Apple's product lineup has gotten a tad bloated in recent years.

They say it will me a small event, so no rmbp :( It has been 319 days since the last update !!! I hope the rumors are incorrect.
They can release an update to the rMB and rMBP with a press release if they are just getting upgraded to Skylake.

If there isn't a new Apple Watch and redesigned MacBook Pros, than don't bother with an event at all Apple. Just announce it at earnings to sugarcoat the fact that iPhone 6S has no chance of keeping the same sales momentum as iPhone 6.

"With the iPhone 5se, Apple may be aiming to introduce a device that's going to deliver up-to-date features to customers who prefer smaller devices while still refraining from competing with its flagship 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhones."

This is insane. First of all, Schiller was just quoted the other day saying that Apple wants their devices to cannibalize sales from others of their devices.

There's no reason why this form factor should not be a "flagship" device. What does Apple care which flagship device people are buying? They're still selling phones. In fact, they stand to sell more phones if they make three different sizes of phones that are all technically equal inside. They'll potentially get sales from current Android users who want a smaller phone, and are willing to buy an iPhone if it's got the latest tech, but not willing to downgrade in tech to get a smaller phone.

That's a horrible name. Wow.
vs 6C or 6 Mini? I'd have preferred 6 Mini, but Apple has used SE in the past.

Come this fall, they may just have the 5SE, 6S, and 7. Maybe they think having "5, 6, 7" will make it easier to differentiate.

I would sell my 6s in a second for revised 4" phone. I am in the minority now days, but I really use my phone for texting/calls and very very light browsing.

I have an ipad for the other stuff =/

+1

I want a 4" again and could even live with an old case design, 8MP cam and 1GB ram, but i want 128 GB flash. I don't have small hands but i can't use my iP6 single handed the way i could the 4" iP5.

Why no iP7 in three sizes but with otherwise similar specs? And btw, NOT FRIGGIN THINNER!!!

J.

Prediction: flop
More likely it's the new base model, and when Apple releases the iPhone 7 later this year, they will discontinue the 6 and sell the 6S as the mid-range. This is essentially a smaller iPhone 6. If it is $450, it's actually not a bad price for what you get.

The possible reason for why the rMBP didin't get updated yet could be because of the supply constraints on the newest Skylake processors. In addition, Intel will be releasing Kaby Lake processors in late 2016, so maybe Apple might not update the rMBP until Kaby Lake? Who knows...

I wish Apple would just take a small (4"), medium (4.7"), large (5.5") approach. Every model is basically the same. Small and medium could be the same price to avoid having the small steal sales from the medium - people who want a smaller iPhone are probably willing to pay the "regular" price for it.

5se? What a stupid name.

Apple appears to be showing no love to this optimum-sized model. They are approaching it just as Samsung would. I guess this is Tim Cook's way of distinguishing himself from Steve Jobs.

Better battery life would be a much-needed filip, nonetheless.

I hear Cook is meeting the Pope. He could do with some divine intervention. I fear for their results on Tuesday, not so much for the last quarter, but for the guidance. If the poor orders we have been hearing from multiple sources are borne out by a lower forecast, I dread to think what will happen to the share price.

All we can do at this point is hold on tight and try to weather the storm. Here's to 2017.
