Is Apple moving to three device categories per product?

iPad Mini, Air, Pro
Macbook, Air, Pro
Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch, Edition
iPhone se, 4.7", +

Seems to make it easy across all their product lines.
iPhone 6 Mini, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Pro would make more sense than SE and Plus to simplify their naming schemes. I don't get it.

Just keep it simple Apple... are you gonna have to go through this mess every year?? Just call it iPhone 6S Mini and get it over with.

iPhone 6S Mini, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 6S Plus. Rinse and repeat.

Honestly even if you wanna keep the "Mini" iPhone's on the half cycle after the "flagship" models to lean people towards the higher end and to keep your cycle relatively fresh throughout the year, that's fine. Just don't do this non-sense with the names... Are you gonna have to keep "iPhone 5" to forever mean a 4" iphone? Yeah that makes sense. Next year we'll have the iPhone 5se 2? Or maybe the iPhone 5sf? Or maybe it will be the iPhone 6c? This is all just dumb

+1

I want a 4" again and could even live with an old case design, 8MP cam and 1GB ram, but i want 128 GB flash. I don't have small hands but i can't use my iP6 single handed the way i could the 4" iP5.

Why no iP7 in three sizes but with otherwise similar specs? And btw, NOT FRIGGIN THINNER!!!

J.

For me personally, I started using a wallet case so a 4" phone would be welcomed. The less (smaller) I have to carry the better!

Genius naming schemes!!! Simple and elegant. This is classic Apple. I feel like Tim is bringing back so much classic Apple these days.

I think it is just too hard to release 3 new models each year, so I'll let Apple go for not starting a family in three sizes.

Giving it an A8 though is inexcusable. Should be A9 at least.

God knows... I was thinking the EXACT damn thing. Literally... the same exact naming convention. No, seriously, I was.

This will turn out like the iPhone 6 "math" rumors. Hint: "math" ended up being a bad translation of "+". This will be the iPhone 5SC (as in, 5S version of the 5C).

"With the iPhone 5se, Apple may be aiming to introduce a device that's going to deliver up-to-date features to customers who prefer smaller devices while still refraining from competing with its flagship 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhones."

This is insane. First of all, Schiller was just quoted the other day saying that Apple wants their devices to cannibalize sales from others of their devices.

There's no reason why this form factor should not be a "flagship" device. What does Apple care which flagship device people are buying? They're still selling phones. In fact, they stand to sell more phones if they make three different sizes of phones that are all technically equal inside. They'll potentially get sales from current Android users who want a smaller phone, and are willing to buy an iPhone if it's got the latest tech, but not willing to downgrade in tech to get a smaller phone.

Actually this quote from Schiller has been utter marketing BS always since I am buying Apple's products (for 15+ years). It may indeed be true that Apple specs their different models in ways to compete with each other but not in a good way. E.g. remember the times when there were 12inch, 15inch and 17inch PowerBooks? The 12inch was always designed to be the least powerful one, even when people like me would have loved to buy a small but incredibly powerful Mac. So as a buyer I am not deciding which model is better, but which is least worst: buying the slower Mac or one that's too big for me. In the end I am buying a compromise.
Or, why do I need to buy a huge bulky iPhone 6 Plus if I actually want a smaller iPhone 6 but still have optical image stabilization? Apple says the technology didn't fit in the smaller one? Well then design it the way it works, there is no law saying the phone has to be one mm thinner than last year…
And yep, it's the same with the upcoming iPhone 5se. There will be a smaller device, yes, but if you want a "good", powerful one, you need to buy the biggest one…

This rumors said all and nothing...... A revisited iPhone 5S ... but similar to an iPhone 6: that means nothing.

iPad Air 3. It now makes a perfect sense why iOS 9.3 has previously unannounced new features. Hopefully, it will have Touch 3D like leaked screenshot suggests.
