iPhone 6 Mini, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Pro would make more sense than SE and Plus to simplify their naming schemes. I don't get it.
Yeah, I've been expecting them to go this route for the longest time but they keep not doing it.

Mini, Air, and Pro models for everything would be so much easier for consumers to understand. And it perfectly illustrates the benefits of all three.

Mini - the most portable
Air - still light and thin, but with great performance for everyone
Pro - the best Apple offers for people who will sacrifice portability (and money) to get the best

It's a no-brainer.

If this goes ahead, it'll be more likely to have a 7 design and less powerful internals. They'll stick to calling it 7C which fit with the 5C and possibly switch from plastic to metal.

The only way this is true, is if there are two 4" phones. A low budget replacement for the 5S, which will be offered alongside a larger 6S with the same chipset, and a higher end 4" 6S variant. Otherwise, Apple is going to be leaving a lot of money on the table from wealthier customers who could afford to buy the iPhone 7, but will opt for the least expensive option if that's the only 4" available. Given the specs being discussed, that would be enough to satisfy most. So if true I'd expect a line-up like this:

6 $450 (This is going to happen strictly to get new Android customers)
"5se" $500 (Apple knows there's a demand for a 4" phone so they're going to charge for the R&D to create it)
6S $550
"6c" $600 (Again, the demand will sell this to the customer who could otherwise afford the flagship)
6S Plus $650
7 $650
7 Plus $750

So instead of offering the Plus as an entry level phone, they maintain it as a premium phone, but expand the smaller handsets on the budget and mid-tier levels with lost of over-lap in the middle to maximize their take from all customers.

The A8 is barely faster (25%) than the A7 in the original 5S, the amount of ram is identical, the 8MP camera in the 5s is widely accepted to better than the one in the 6 they are shoehorning into this.... Besides being able to use Apple Pay (at all 3 places that support it) and being able to see Live Photos why would I buy this instead of a 5S which is approx half the price?

So wait, this phone is going to have the internals and curved glass of the 6 but be called the 5se? Somebody is messing with Matk Gurman.

If it does not have 2Gigs of RAM, it's a no-go.

But knowing Apple, that will be THEIR main design "feature", forced into this phone.

Call it 5SE and it's dead on arrival. Why would Apple bring out a "new" phone and give it a three year old name?

If this is true, I'll get one. I don't care about 3D touch, and even less about the name of the phone. The important things are (1) a CPU/GPU that's fast enough to run iOS 9 and 10 without stuttering, (2) updated wireless with new LTE bands and VoLTE, and (3) Apple Pay support. The iPhone 5 design is the second-best yet IMO (after the 4), so I'm fine with a slightly updated version of that. If the exterior dimensions are the same, that's a plus, since I can reuse the car mount and case that I still have from the 5S. ;)

Correct, if a new 4" phone comes out it will have either the same number, i.e. 6, as the current bigger phones, or no # and be called "mini". Bank on it!

I've decided to call mine the 5.5" Retina iPhone Pro Late 2015.
So this new phone would be the 4" Retina iPhone Early 2016

But you can just call it the 5se if that's easier..

I would sell my 6s in a second for revised 4" phone. I am in the minority now days, but I really use my phone for texting/calls and very very light browsing.

I have an ipad for the other stuff =/
Do you use any apps for your phone that require iOS? If not, you could've just gotten a cheaper Android. If you're really not into ANY apps, you should just do what I hear some folks did... sell the iPhone, replace it with a dumbphone that has quadruple the battery life, and use the iPad for iOS access

Yeah, that's a real selling point. Giving it a model name that's 3 years old
Still seems on par with the Xboxes...
Xbox
Xbox 360
Xbox One

Of which the first one was often referred to as "the first Xbox", so that was quite unnecessary.

I hope not. 5 syllables for the most popular device in the world? No way. Besides. Say "ce" now say "c". SOUNDS THE SAME. Apple is smarter than that.

Weird name.
I honestly do not believe that they will use that name. It doesn't make sense to use it because the iPhone 6 and 6s are out. It would be ridiculous to give a new iPhone and old iPhone name with a slight variation. Apple has never done this before. If anything, I believe that it will have either the number 6 in it or the number 7. That would be like Microsoft releasing a new version of windows and calling it Windows 8.2
