It could be called the iPhone 6 minus.

I like the size, updated specs and even the form factor.

no 3D Touch? shouldnt they be pushing that technology so devs will actually bother to implement it?
Yeah I don't understand why they don't add it to all their phones if it's the future of the interface or if they want to make more people develop for it.

Hey all you 5 and 5S users - trade in your phone so Apple can "recycle" it and stuff it with 2 generation old tech and sell it back to you! As a bonus, they'll stamp a nice 'SE' badge on the back so you'll remember you have the latest and greatest iPhone!

Again, I don't understand why a 4" screen requires de-contenting the phone. The 4" should be the flagship, most high-tech, and most expensive iPhone. I'd gladly pay. Charging more for smaller/thinner/lighter is what Apple is all about anyway, right? At the very least, make it equal to the 4.7" in every technical respect and charge the same price. I still bet more ppl would go for 4" over 4.7"

I just don't understand how Apple thinks it's okay to release a device with 1GB of RAM in 2016 . Unbelievable. I love my iPhone and Apple products but this is just stupid. Crossing my fingers for 2GBs of RAM.

New iPhones should be called iPhone. For forever. Its beginning to turn out to be like naming automotive trim levels. "SE," "S," "S Plus," lol...

Also, Apple is run by Fools now. It's like if Charles Manson's group suddenly experienced Charles missing. They'd have no clue where the hell to go, or what to do.

Which is Apple.

Good thing they have billions saved. They'll need it to float for the next 10 years before bankruptcy and a buyout by Google.

...do you guys ever think we're too critical of the phones that are released? Maybe we should be criticizing things that matter like the UN or the United States House of Representatives instead?

On a forum called Mac Romours!? That would be weird.

Because it literally won't fit inside the phone with all the other new tech. They haven't miniaturized it to the point where it will yet. That's one of the reasons why I'd be surprised if the new 4" phone has a headphone jack (to the extent Apple is really dropping it on the 7), since they could easily reclaim that space.

That's part of the reason why I think this budget phone will happen -- it allows them to sell a super low budget model by just updating existing tech, and leaving off key features since it's an entry level phone. Touch ID and NFC are also key features for developing Apple's future technologies, yet Apple was OK leaving them off the 5c last year, and the latter off 5S this year because it was they were the entry level phones. Pay is going to have a hard time growing in 2016 if Apple sells a new phone that can't do it, especially when over 40% of the installed iPhone user base is already using a 5S or earlier. And replacing the 5S early only helps that. 3D Touch by comparison is still evolving, and won't be a major selling point of the 7, anyway. It will be something that developers will keep expanding, as they find more ways to utilize it. And just like Pay, by the time they do, all phones will likely have it, as well as some iPads.

Blah blah blah...

Honestly, just give me a spec bumped (to early 2015 standards is fine by me) 5s form factor w/ NFC for Apple Pay and I'm done and happy.

I seriously don't "get" these ever-larger phones. Because it only cost me $30, I picked up a Kindle Fire with a 7" display.

Again, it was only $30 - but the 7 inches of "screen real estate" - it sucks. I even half-rooted it to de-Amazon the thing - and I seriously do not care for the Android interface. Rather than swiping, I'm always having to swipe then find a little button to press - it's very clumsy.

So, at home, I can pick up my iPhone or the Fire to check email and do my "phone stuff" - weather, set alarms, music, etc. And I always find myself picking up my phone. Again, it's an iPhone 4. I really like that it's tiny - rather "perfect" if you ask me (stop raising your hands, I'm not taking questions... ;))

So if Apple wishes to sell ME a new iPhone, jack that 4 with all of the latest tech so I can get my money out of the life cycle before I get bump-iOS'd out.

Stop making it bigger and thinner - iOS beats the crap out of whatever Lollipop nonsense - and give a shout out to those of us who primarily use our phones for phone stuff. More real estate just makes it take up too much room in my pockets. I've already got 5.5" built in down there (on a good day).

And then I'll get a new 10" iPad, which is also pretty much "perfect" - use my 4" as a "hotspot" should I be out of WiFi range. Apple sells me new two new devices - win/win.

I tried doing a non-phone thing with my 7" Fire - to watch a movie. Just laying in bed, thought I'd give it a shot. Didn't like it at all -

So, bad jokes aside, I think my "demographic" has been a big winner for Apple. Give us your highest tech in 4", pop us to 10" for the bed and the toilet - golden Apples all the way.

The 7s apparently isn't selling - what does Cook have to lose by going retro Jobs with the 4" - and NO SKIMPING on tech... because we KNOW your gameplan is to force us to upgrade - death by iOS.

Thanks so much for your support. Amaze me, Jony - slam the latest greatest into a 4" that "changes everything". Greatly appreciated, Sir-i!

And just name it the New iPhone 4btj (for back to Jobs) - I don't care. Let ME be a crazy rebel and have everyone laugh at me for actually DESIRING a tiny phone... I can handle the insults.

How much would you pay for a 4" A9/10 phone?

How much would you pay for a 4" A9/10 phone?

I'd be ecstatic - heck, I'd toss in an extra $100 just to GET MY WAY :) Even though it's not gonna happen...

Wasn't there a Zoolander joke where his phone was insanely tiny? I remember that trend - and it got just as ridiculous as this "super-sizing" that's going on now. Sadly I can't fit my 42" Plasma in my pocket and paint it gold or I'd be STYLIN'! Whip that baby out in a coffee shop...

But yeah, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat - even pre-order with max memory - heck, make it 512GB :) I think I'll need it to store all of the odd photos that have been turned into Vines for no reason, well other than to eat up memory so you have to buy more memory. SUPA-SIZE IT! Gimme some BLOAT!!! Can't get enough...

I seriously can't think of a single use for a 5.5" phone - well, other than as the world's most expensive GPS, hanging off my windshield. 4" and 10" seem to be the sweet spots for me. That it appears I'm eventually to be FORCED to have an oddly large phone is about as appealing as the time my girlfriend (ex) talked me into wearing "skinny jeans" out one night. Atrociously painful.

And not running down folks who love the Plus's - I'm sure they have a myriad of uses for their phones that require the additional 1.5" of screen-estate. But Sam I am on that.

In what world would Apple make a new phone and call name it something from three years ago? You're telling me they'll have the 7, 7+ and a 5se?? Not a chance.

I use two of the iP5 (32 GB) along with IOS7 and it does everything I want: A Smartphone without too much gimmicks.
Good size and it still does its job since years. Even the batteries are still in very good condition

The ONLY reason I could not resist to buy the "new" iP5
(Someone proposed the name "iP 6 minus" which I find a great idea … :D but 5se could mean "Super Efficient" or "super economic" as for longer use between charging) would be more battery capacity and/or less consumption. I don´t mind if this would be possible with a A6, A7, A8 or A9 processor and/or OLED Screen or all together or whatever… I don´t feel unhappy with "only" 1 GB either. But a 128 GB or a slot for additional micro SDCard would be fine. I´d prefer even a "iP5 aJIP" version: iP5 "anti-Jony Ive Philosophy" meaning 1 or 2 mm thicker than the iP5, but enough battery to stay with it much longer without panic for recharging…. If in a plastic housing, this would not even be ticker over-all than the iP5 with the protection for the metal-version, that 90% of customers are forced and willing to add.

No Problem, if in a plastic housing ("plastic" is nowadays a perfectly shock absorbing and reliable high-tech material) for better antenna function (The 5c had the best results of ALL iPhones, even its successors, of its telephone-function because of its "plastic" material, but only one single review in the world looked still for the "phone" function, the rest are just looking at gimmicks….)

If not, I´d stay with the iP5 (and IOS7) until god takes us apart.
And I will never ever buy a smartphone with more than the perfect 4" size.

Not too fond of that name, but I'm thinking that is just a "code name" or something along the sorts that these foreign manufactures are making up. Ideally, I think the iPhone mini would be a great name. As far as design (I sold my 6 for a 5s again last year), I would be happy if it looked exactly like my 5s with upgraded internals. If not, I think having it look as close to the newest iPod touch would be the next best thing (and something that I still think they're going to go with)

The rumors of this phone just don't add up.

Apple (the CURRENT Apple) is interested in just a few things:

1) Making more money
2) Pushing the newest features of iOS/upgrading when they say you should

An updated 4" phone that is missing 3D Touch, 2 gigs of ram, Apple Pay, etc. doesn't really accomplish either of these. The newest features of 3D Touch won't be accessible and the R&D to develop is far more expensive than keeping the 5S on the market for 6 more months. Unless they think this device would sell like hot cakes (it won't) there's no reason for it.

I only asked because some people want a smaller phone with same specs for less money. At least you're reasonable.

I hope that this naming situation is similar to that of the iPhone "Math" - a weird mistranslation somewhere. Otherwise Apple has hired Microsoft's brand naming guy.

Their naming is truly horrible. No seriously... Who signs off on these things? Their name schemes are soooo bad.

This does remind me of when they called their 1st tablet iPad and all the maxi-pad jokes.
Yet somehow we all came to accept it, despite hating and laughing at it.

I still want the i-Pon to go with the pad, and wish that had been the name given to the apple pencil.

I'd expect to pay about $50 less than the normal 6S (given a lack of 3D touch, etc), but I'd happily pay $100 more, again if it has 2GB of ram and an A9 processor. Literally, a 4 inch screen, 2GB of ram and A9 are my only requirements, as I want my next phone to last a while.

This can't come soon enough, my iPhone 5 is deteriorating fast.

If it's basically the same shape as the iPhone 5, then we're not going to get a ridiculous projected camera. The only fear is Apple take the design cues of the antenna from the 6 series. But they can't be that stupid. Also $200 less for 18 month old tech is pretty much in line with Apples pricing, so I'm delighted.

I might get two, because my girlfriend keeps complaining about the size of her iPhone 6. She even asked to swap with me.
