Ordinarily I'd feel like a schmuck for paying $2K for a 14" Windows laptop, but then I remind myself it's 1 lb lighter than this and has an Eyesafe certified display.

Apple needs to do more.
Most Windows PCs are lighter because they're made in plastic. Would you rather like plastic? Not me...

IMO paying $1,500 for such a beast is an insane deal. If you're in the market for a portable Mac with decent performance, the only reason you might not want this deal IMO is because M4's just around the corner.

512GB. I'm interested in the demand for such a laptop. Personally, I don't have a lot of software installed, and I'm almost at 500 GB w/o a bunch of video. Of course one can add some pretty speed external storage, but that takes away (slightly?) from portability, simplicity, etc.
Nothing says "Pro" like a $1500+ laptop with 512GB base storage in 2024.

I have 25 terabytes sitting in the basement on a NAS. Does it matter how much local storage my Mac has? 512 is plenty if you're relying mostly on cloud and not stockpiling.

Work issues me a 512GB and I'm editing 4K video all day long. It's fine... everything big goes to a Petabyte storage array.

Don't anybody do it. Unless you absolutely NEED a new Macbook Pro TODAY to finish to meet your deadline, just wait it out a couple more months.

$1,499 is the price Apple should have charged if Tim Cook wasn't such a shamelessly greedy corporate scumbag who wants to milk customers for as much as he can.
I agree pricing under his leadership has become ridiculous.

It’s like Tim has forgotten the vast majority of his customers don’t have tens of millions of dollars like he has.

I guess it's a good thing the Micro Center near me didn't have in stock the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro 16/512 for $1,399.99 as this 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro 18/512 is a much better deal. And 5% cash back with Amazon Prime Visa
Just bought one of these about 6 weeks ago. . . albeit it was a bit more expensive then.

I’m so conflicted now :( I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the MacBook Air 15 inch with the above configuration but it’s literally the same price as the 14 inch pro. My biggest draw to the air is the large larger screen, but I know the screen quality is better on the pro so I’m really torn between which one to get. Haha if they were severely discounting the air, I probably would just pull the trigger on that but now they’re the same price and I don’t know what to do. 🤣

Pro for sure. The screen alone is better lol

So the two specs you're interested in are sheer weight and some gimmick called Eyesafe? LOL, ok!

But whatever you do, don't go looking up how much "blue light" you get exposed to in plain old daylight.
For whatever reason, the gimmick makes a HUGE difference for me. I cannot use any of the existing Apple displays without severe eye pain and watering (within 1/2 hour) -- I don't think it's just blue light but also temporal dithering and glare (blue light is easily solvable with night mode). On the other hand, I can use this matte Eyesafe display for hours on end with absolutely no issues.

And yes, sheer weight matters to me. The MBP 14 feels like a brick in comparison.

There is a similar price drop in Canada, but you can only get the english keyboard. I'm going to wait for the M4 to upgrade from the 2019 Intel MacBook pro I've been using without it's screen since a little accident rendered it totally black…

I would never ever buy, for any price, a computer on Amazon, where fake products are found in abundance.
That's always a risk, but they also always refund the money.

I guess I’m just trying to decide if the difference between 14” and 15” screen is really that big. I do plan to do a lot of multitasking on the single laptop screen
For what it's worth, I recently ponied up for a USB-powered portable monitor and it's seriously great for getting a bunch of work done, if you're gonna be in one spot for a while and can set it up. Obviously pretty much unusable on the go (airplane, cafe, on your lap somewhere) but amazing if you are setting up shop for a workday at a desk. The one I linked to has very solid pixel density (about 190 ppi) and brightness, and doesn't look at all out of place paired with an Apple display.

Apple's prices are pretty comparable to the competition these days. Some items still carry an "Apple Tax" but I would argue that iPhone prices are comparable to Andoid phone prices. The Windows laptops competing with the MacBook Pro are similarly priced as well.

The screen size is going to be extremely negligible and the resolution is higher on the 14”, if that matters to you. Plus you get the extra ports.

To my mind there is zero reason to spend the same on a lesser MBA as the actual base-model MBP (the 8GB of RAM model doesn’t exist in my reality).

$1,499 was how much I paid for my 14-inch M2 Pro Macbook Pro with 1TB and 32 GB ram on the Apple refurbished site last fall.
Woah! That is some crazy deal. How did you get lucky with that one? A machine with that same spec is showing as $2,259 on Apple's refurb site today.

I went from a M1 MBP 14" to an M3 Air 15" (16gb) recently. The reason for me is the MBP felt too heavy when using it on my lap. The screen on the Air is....lesser than the Pro, particularly if you are sensitive to 60Hz vs. 120Hz refresh. For me the weight savings was worth the trade off.

He really is a hefty one, but I like the way it feels. It was a noticeable difference from my 2018 13" MBP, even though on paper it's only .5lb more.
